The AI should also realize that without space cover, the w ar is really lost. I had reduced the fleet of the arcadians to nothing leaving all is planets untouched but unprotected. My fleet was surrounding his planet, with enough ship to kill any newly build ship, and I was reducing its morale to 1% through destabilization, to prevent him to make new ships. When spoken to, the guy still taunted me that the war had just begun, and would not accept to surrender ONE little planet (among 10)

Did the basic environment control make its way back in the tech tree ?
Given their usual level of commitment, I'm sure it will be resolved soon. Mmmmm, what time is it in their timezone ? :))
Technician, you're the only one that successfully dl the beta 3A... Did you do something particular ?
I remember not only typing it (that was easy) but I remember spending long hours PROOFREADING the long lists of data code searching for a silly forgotten byte...
I can't dl it either. The DGM tells the error is on the Planet.ptb file, but in the debug log I have : ------------------------- GetFile: galciv.ex_ 714279 bytes 11/11/02 17:38:18 ------- Error: 13 Invalid data. 0 Debug Message: SetCancelButton0 Debug Message: SetGameData Server: http://scripts.stardock.com/ Hope this helps...
Mmmm, very good idea, in fact, even though I don't think it was intended.
(a) Yes, there is a slight problem with this aspect. You migth notice for example that you can bargain a colony ship full of alien and they will merrily serve you thereafter... The ONLY time were pacific coexistence seems to be impossible is during planetary conquest, because there is no difference between citizens and troopers. We must suppose that THIS is the problem, and not the whole cultural thing that I suppose we all enjoy in principles. (b) Err, you mean that a government should
I may be missing something, but why exactly are you building a starbase ON a starsystem ? Isn't that the source of the problem ? Starbase may be designed to be located deep in space, and the bug may arise if you build on a starsystem...
I like very much the idea of cultural defection, but it is rather easy know to culturally conquer everyone. Especially since you must wipe out every single sentient being on a planet to conquer it. After such an atrocity, I doubt people of alien civilisation would get along so well, even in exchange for coke and chewing-gum.
Reaver9 : maybe they are from the war party, doubling their HP ? Just a wild guess. I thought that the alien were not benefitting from the political bonus but I may be wrong.
Their population curve is rather strange too, but you can outgrow them. You should send colony ships early, because that's what they do. In the beginning, it is better to have many poor and little colonies that a few great ones. And there are groundbreaking techs and improvement that will affect your growth. Get the love mushrooms ASAP, and when you'll be able to terraform your planets, your population will skyrocket...
Yes, some planets are undervalued. I was able, playing with average opponents, to pull the following trick : wait for the major bully (that I kept happy with me) to attack a feeble civ, and then trade all my considerable techs in exchange for all his planets except one. The remaining planet could not use the tech advance to produce starship to repell the bully in time. I did this two times, gaining 6 planets for a very minimal effort. Civs should not endanger their survival in exch
I read here that minor civ where not totally passive, they where just less likely to expand than the major ones. I like it too.
Oh, I forgot, it is crashing whenever I am loading this saved game.

Hi, I have a savegame that is consistently crashing the game. When I click on restore last civilization, it is loading up to 89% then crashes back to desktop. What can I do to help guess where the problem is ? BTW, it may be related to cultural victory. Eager to test the cultural conquest, I selected only idiot opponents and started to outclass them culturally. The crash occurs in a situation where I *may* be culturally winning. BTW, my first impressions on the cu
it's downloading slowly, but it's downloading... I suppose everyone must be dling at the same time. EVERYONE : STOP DL NOW :)
In game, you can change the default name allocated by the program. Double-click on the name in the stat window (above the AT and DEF points), and you can name the ships whatever you want. As I said, it was an extremely minor nitpick :) But a little more seriously, it may be good if possible to have a file with a default name of ships ? Not that it is very important with the amount of fleets we can me moving by the end of the game.
And the number of troops you leave on the planet starts constituing the population of the planet. Pacific coexistance of the races is not possible as of now.
That's the problem : balance between the two. If the threshold for cultural control is set to high, it will be far easier to invade a populated world to gain control of a sector than to try to convert it culturally. On the other hand, any attempt at military victory may fall short because cultural victory will be achieved first... We'll have to see how it works before complaining though :)
I think colony ships should be needed even if it's for a simple planet hopping. I mean, except the hyperdrive, there is no difference between ships ferrying billions of people between to planets in the same stellar systems and two planets at the other end of the galaxy... Besides, the price of the colony ships reflects, IMHO, the materials needed to begin the colony (housing, manufacturing centers, robots...) so it would not be easier to ferry the billions of people in multiple trips. B
Mmmm, yes I have come across some stupid events like that, too. Th problem was that the objective was really "randomly" selected, and it was not realistic neither strategic. Who would risk a war to capture some remote city in the heart of another country ? While it is far more realistic to have border problems with some countries. I suppose we're better off without these kind of event unless they are really well thought...
Very minor nitpicking, but if I can accept the very unlikely event that every country on earth decide to join a planetary governement from now to 2171, I find it rather incredible that they would choose to prefix their spaceships'name with the prefix used by the american navy... ;p I hereby compete for the minorest nitpicking on the game :)
Events that sets some kind of temporary objectives, like "control planet X under N time" or "evacuate all population of planet X before an asteroid crash in N monthes". Or political event-objectives, like "ally with this minor civ". These type of events would reinforce the sens of epic of the game, with the player being a part of an universe instead of the competitor of 5 other omnipotent beings in the galaxy :) Especially if failing to complete the task would bear no real penalty, unlike the gr
