as long as OS ripping is considered ok it will be pretty hard to explain your points to somebody who is unbiased and not part of our/your scene. there is even an OS rip (of a very well known skinner) that has the JPEG artifacts of the screenshot it was cutted and pasted from in the caption buttons. now when you see an other rip of this OS all you cry and say it´s a rip. you´ll hardly find a UI related dll on my computer that is not hacked. especially with icons the possibilities go far further than any shareware/freeware program (and as you are using LiteStep you should know that is not possible to change all icons with a program in 2K or XP when not using exploder as shell). it might be illegal as we only bought a license to use the product and not the actual product itself (maybe it´s even illegal to alter the registry to run an alternative shell ...

why should they? in the end it makes their UI more attractive. if it would not be possible to play with the OS, quite a few people might loose interest in it ... look at the site again. most of the "downloads" are links to the websites of the companies that produce these plug-ins. the others are freeware when the distribution is allowed. you´ll also notice that some files have been removed, because of copyright issues. that´s just the same at Wincustomize. people upload rips, and sometimes they get through and removed later. not to speak of all the illegal stuff at Wincustomize that steals design copyrighted by Apple, QNX or other companies <im
