paxx: XChat is transparent to the desktop. that´s a lot faster than real transparency.
so what. look at page 1 of this thread. there are plenty of skins on this site that infringe the Apple logo. not to speak of the PixOS premium suite where even money is made with the Apple scrollbars. this site has double-standards quite often

you can also save the money and use Glass2K http://www.chime.tv/gui.shtml or Trans2K http://www.545studios.com/f/software.php . both are free and work on 2K and XP.

first: forget Lindows, there are much better distributions that are available for free. LiteStep on Linux? sounds tempting, but i highly doubt it would work. you might be able to put simpler things as lsnotes or rainmation on your desktop using WINE, but stuff like the desktop, tasks, recycle bin or system tray and most likely metering won´t work. better have a look into Enlightenment. it does not only skin the windows, but is also capable to build full desktop environments. a friend
Jafo: why is this site specifically for Windows? Winamp2 skins work without any problems with XMMS. 24-bit ICO files can be used in X and so can the PNGs for ObjectDock. wallpapers tend to work on most OSs
a lot of you submit Rainlendar skins that work on your own system only. that´s because you are using hard-coded paths in the skin´s config file. this will cause problems on any system that does not have Rainlendar in the same directory than you. for example all users that do not have an English version of Windows. the solution is to edit rainlendar.ini after you finished the skin to remove all paths. only the name of the image is required. for more info look here: http
speaking of permissions: Paxx, did you ever get permission from Misery for your Nijikon Fetchi for WB? it is plain to see that it derives from his wallpaper. you are not even giving him credit in the comments, just to Boxxi, while Misery was the one that started it all. this is not meant to attack you, but "permissions" seem to have such a high value for you that do not even like others to give those permissions for skin patching in advance. since a week or so. try browsing the site when you are not logged in and you´ll get a Galctic Civilization and Pixtudio popup window every now and when. wonder which adware that would be
oh my. just use a real browser like Mozilla, Phoenix or Opera and you will not see popups anywhere. Wincustomize has popups now as well, so the only popup free site is deskmod (and the Linux sites of course where popups would make no sense anyways, as Linux users don´t have Internet Exploder)
of course OS X can be skinned. Kaleidoscope does no longer work, but there are Duality and ThemeChanger. there are various sites for themes. one is Resexcellence. it´s called Konfabulator with K, because it´s by the same developers as Kaleidoscope.
one example i just found 5 minutes ago. http://art.gnome.org/show_theme.php?themeID=369&category=metacity a new skin for Metacity that is using the code from my Glacier theme (is just as important as the graphics in this format). as i released my Glacier as Open Source it was easier for the other guy to create this new skin.
until now yes. personally i like the idea of Open Source skins. this way your skins have the opportunity to "live" longer and not die out if a skin format changes. of course it has to be the author´s decision wether he wants that or not. in the Linux community Open Source is standard and it works. one bad thing is that not enough people try to do new things and just update the old, but that´s a different story.
paxx: yes, this would be ok. but in reality nobody really wants that. for example with Seer wouldn´t you prefer a shellstyle that matches Seer exactly and not something that has somehow similar colors, but only makes your interface less clean than using no shellstyle?
making the old skins Open Source, eh? the whole thing is that WindowBlinds needs more skins with shellstyles. in the end this will only affect a limited number of skins, so why not mailing the most popular skinners here and ask if the would agree with opening their skins to that SkinPatch thing. opt-in is a very cool idea. opt-out is unethical.

that fact that he has some "click to select" thing makes this rather uncertain but if so we should point him to desktopian.org. tin omens themes were the best for b23 anyways. http://www.desktopian.org/themes.html
hah! i bet it´s not half as complicated as you say Jafo. he is probably using lsts.exe to switch themes. when there is no *.thm file in the theme´s directory, lsts defaults to sdtep.rc instead of step.rc. old known bug ... just use lscp.exe to switch themes and everything will be fine as long the theme is OTS compliant.
using only these four sites produces some nice stats, but i would not be too sure if these benchmarks are reliable. unlike HVD and Talisman, LiteStep skinning never really had it´s base at the general skin sites. the LiteStep community always had and has it´s own "superbowl parties" where the exchange of ideas happens. currently there are (for downloading themes): www.litestep.net www.lsthemes.com there are also plenty of local sites by enthusiasts all over the worl

yes, for the people that come here only you are right. they might indeed think that they get quality work for money only ... but on the other hand i am pretty sure that Carlitus´ icons were one of many reasons for quite a few people to come here and maybe even purchase IconPackager. without the skins/icons the apps would not be worth much.
cross platform? there´s no money to make in that business. everything except CDE (rather fugly) is free there ... BlackBox i the fastest thing around and Enlightenment is mightier than WB. note: i am aware that WB skins more (scrollbars, etc ...) on the Windows platform, but we are talking about Window Manager functionality.
