bakerstreet: i actually know who 'they' are and so do most people who are deeper into LS. actually the modularity is LiteStep´s sttrongest point. i would hate to have something like a default systray or tasks when there are modified or completely different modules around that work better for a specific theme. have a look at Teschio´s Thin theme for example. it uses a hack of systray2 that has !bang commands when the systray expands decreases. that allows to resize taskbar3 on these even

generally: no. some LiteStep themes do require 2K/XP to run properly. this is usually stated in the themes description or readme (that stuff nobody reads usually). some Object Desktop programs/features require XP/2K as well as i know, but i leave this to the experts. there will be problems if you run LiteStep and DesktopX/ObjectBar at the same time due to a little app that comes with DesktopX/ObjectBar (trayserver.exe) but on the other hand there is no real reason to u

first of all you don´t drag icons onto it. drag and drop entries from your start menu and the targets including arguments will work fine. tough question. most of the graphics (the non-boring stuff) come from an old Enlightenment (*NIX/Linux window manager) default theme (either v12, 12.5 or 13). the graphics were most probably done by Tigert (Tuomas Kusmanen). his website is here: http://tigert.gimp.org/ the non-Enlightenment part (popmenu and tasks) are actually so dull and plain that i´m not even sure if these permission for these is needed.

i am not using explorer.exe as shell, so i don´t want DesktopX to touch my systray at all. actually trayserver.exe is causing a lot of trouble at log-in when one is using alternative shells. so the last time i tried DesktopX i always had to close DesktopX and and delete the registry entry before shutting down. from what i heard about DesktopX i would be interested to have a look at it again, but i would really like to have an option not to install trayserver.exe (i also heard it causes

i don´t think something so basic as a VWM should be payware. if you are using WindowsXP you could still get Microsoft´s free Power Toys. http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp look for deskman.exe LiteStep´s ckvwm module is free, does not loose windows, has an easy option to set windows sticky to all desktops and comes with an easy to understand documentation ... i´m only on IRC and use XChat for that. i prefer using the same software on both Linux and Windows. and transparent windows look so leet never had a use for Beatnik though, both HoverDesk and LiteStep come with clocks. maybe when HoverDesk was young the clock plug-in wasn´t that flexible in looks, so people made matching skins for Beatnik.
