an other way to have animations on your desktop would be LSLIVE. it plays animated gifs, can lauch apps when you click on it and also has sounds on mouse-overs and clicks. this app comes from the LiteStep scene, but is a standalone exe. you can get it here: http://www.shellfront.org/modules/lslive-1.3.0.2.zip

i do not use Dashboard, but i to took the time to download both skins and had a look at the code, so that i do not look like i am a complete idiot the XPMA code does not look like copied and pasted from yours, but was done with a program called Skin Me, so your skin may have been edited with this program. to be honest, i can come to no conclusion so i better shut up now.

hm, not completely sure about the layout thing since i do not know how Dashboard works, but the graphics and icons are copyrighted by Microsoft and not by you. and the idea of an XP look skin is not that original.
i also tried running HoverDesk on top of LS. but i did a very basic LS setup (only desktop, popup menu and systray). that worked quite well, but of course this is only playing. btw: the coming HVD 2.50 can be run as fully funtional shell (only the systray has to be displayed by a third party program), and it is even resource-frienlier than LS (of course only if you do a LS theme with the same functionality, a minimal LS theme will be lighter)
i guess Falstaff Aqua is the blue version? that may be a reason too. really interesting to see how many people like that color. on DeviantArt there are 3 color versions of a HoverDesk theme by Honz12 and the blue one is downloaded 10 times as much as the green and red versions.
well windowblinds is not the problem (at least under win98). but using DesktopX and LiteStep together does not really make sense (i don´t think DesktopX has any funtionality LiteStep doesn´t). but believe there are people with this problem, this trayserver.exe also causes problems with HoverDesk.

well, ObjectBar and LiteStep do not work together in my opinion. ObjectBar does do some "evil" things with the systray (trayserver.exe). also there is not really a point running ObjectBar and LiteStep together.

or if there is only one user (you) that should use the other popup menu it´s much easier. LiteStep has a pre-defined environment variable: $UserName$ that references the user that has logged into the system. so you could use conditional statements again. If UserName=Jafo ... Else ... EndIf
you could use one rc file where you define a value for PopupMenuStyle (or whatever you like it to call). then use conditional statements. you can then change the value for PopupMenuStyle with textedit2.dll.

jafo: no wonder you had problems with Audiophile. it was done before OTS hitted the scene, so it just can´t be 100% compatible, hehe it usually mentioned in the theme´s description if a theme is OTS compatible.
first of all Jafo OTS does not mean "Official" but "Open Theme Standard". it is not much more than a guideline for a theme´s directory standard. due to it´s openness a lot of themers like to include new features of the IndieStep build. so of course you have to update your LiteStep and your core modules. the other dev team is more working on resource friendlyness. i desperately hope this code fork comes
