T-Man, Yeah, still no go. Unistalling and reinstalling DGM has simply cut me off completely. As I noted above, after entering my serial number and clicking "Register," I get the following message: "Error: unable to connect to server." So, things are even worse than they were before. I'll email this to you also.

I don't know whether Exodius' problem is fixed, but I'm still unable to get the game. As a matter of fact, things are worse. I tried uninstalling DGM and reinstalling it again, and now, when I try to connect and the registration comes up, I fill in my serial number and submit it, but I get the message: "Error: unable to connect to server." Any ideas?

Thanks, CariElf. I've been in contact with Pat, altho it's been a while since I heard from him. I guess it's taking him a while to figure out the problem--plus, I imagine that the relelase of Beta 3 and its upgrades has probably taken a lot of everyone's time. Still, I hope that he, or anyone, can figure this out soon. I'd really like to play this, and I'd like to be able to contribute to what remains of the development process, which will be easier if I actually have a copy

I've never heard of SetiSpy, so I don't think I'm running it. By the way, I originally downloaded DGM on my old computer, then a week or so ago when my new one arrived I downloaded it to the new one. The old one was an IBM laptop running Win 98 SE, the new one is a Dell running Win XP. So, two different computers, two different OSs, but neither one can access GalCiv. I've even used two different ISPs, one on each computer.

I'm having the same problem--downloaded DGM and installed it, but when I run it, nothing shows up under "Games." I have "Show Betas" checked. I've reinstalled, plus I've sent the error file to Stardock, but they still haven't come up with a solution, and I purchased the game about two weeks ago. I'll have to see if I can figure out the registry thing, although I don't know exactly what I'm looking for and I'm a bit leary about messing with the registry. On the other hand, it's clear

"jpub: 1) You make a convincing case on this. I see wher eyou're coming from in that you want there to be more surprise on this. You'd like to have to guess at whether the Drengin are smart or not. Wheras if you just set them to random you may end up with an easy game or a hard game. You'd rather have the option to set the game to a difficulty level and it take care of the rest. I'll see what we have time to do." Yes, that's exactly what I was trying to say. I'd like to be abl

I bought the game about a week and a half ago, but it doesn't show up when I run the Drengin GM, and the tech people still haven't figured out why I'm unable to access GalCiv. So, I can't speak from experience yet. However, let me echo something from the post above. I dislike choosing the exact number of opposing civilizations or setting their abilities at the beginning of the game. I'd rather make a more general choice, like "Few," "Average," and "Many" for the number of computer o

It's kinda silly to throw accusations around without doing some research first--silly and irresponsible. Unfortunately, the internet is full of such misinformation. Geryk's article, to which Pascal has provided a link, is a good start, offering an enjoyable overview of space 4x games. As for these two games, there is little cause to accuse either of ripping the other off, as the resemblence is purely generic. I happen to think Space Empires IV is a good game. I just purchased the
