Yeah, new game, lost the election, my influence went thru the roof and everybody and his brother is defecting to me again. I hope this gets fixed for beta 4. So far, every game of 3Z that I've played has either resulted in a cultural victory due to this bug, or has been scrapped after some bug caused a crash or a freeze-up which I was unable to get past. This is making it hard to get a grasp of how the game is developing in terms of balance, etc.

Yeah, Robert, I'd love to see the implementation of your suggestion regarding being able to see the mini-map while the ship or planet lists are up, and having the selected item in the list highlighted on the mini-map. While there are a number of new gameplay features I'd like, when it comes down to it, what I most want for version 1.0 is elimination of the bugs and a few features like this one to assist in management of your civilization.
That's funny! My survey ships, at least if they're on autosurvey, will stop, and even get hung up adjacent to an anomaly. I've never tried to manually force one onto a prohibited one.
So, it's tied to losing the election, huh? Hopefully, this will get fixed, otherwise losing the election will become a popular path to victory.
This is kinda minor, but I'd like to know what all the little icons mean--e.g. the one in front of the the ship stats on the ship list, the ones on the planets, etc.
You know what? They don't! I'd swear that, in an earlier build they did, but they don't anymore. However, even if they did, I still think the plus signs are too small to be of much use in locating them, except in the smaller galaxies.
I ended up scrapping the game above, because something screwed up in the research screen. I went there to check how long 'til the current tech I was researching would be finished, and it said 1000 months! I experimented with switching to the other techs, but the time remained 1000 months no matter which tech I chose. I played a few more turns, but every time I went back to the tech screen, the time remaining was still 1000 months. Without being able to research new techs, there was
I haven't experienced this problem yet, but when I read that tech costs had been significantly reduced, I was worried. I hate it when in other games, I reach the end of the tech tree in every area, but am nowhere near the end of the game. It's hard to imagine ever running out of things to research in real life. I'd much rather have the techs be sufficiently expensive that you'd never be able to research all of them in any given game. In each different game, you'd have to decide where
Unless something has changed, they show up on the mini-map as plus signs. However, unless you're playing on a pretty small map, the plus signs are so small as to be almost invisible. I too would like to see a button under the mini-map which would cause them to be displayed in a more visible fashion.
Just want to second Jack's idea. I think it wou;d be a great way to find out what are the most wanted features.
Hi Folks, It's a new game, and I seem to be experiencing a repeat of what I reported above. In June 2193, with only two planets after having the Altarians steal the others I had, I badly lost the election, leaving me with only ten percent of the seats in the senate. I'm slightly in the red, since I have no economic base to speak of. However, the next turn, EIGHT planets defected to me because I'm culturally superior! I certainly wasn't feeling culturally superior to anyone.
Thanks for reminding me, Juergen. I forgot about resources. We do need something to make them easier to keep track of also.
I think this one has been mentioned before, but I'd like a display of uncolonized planets which you have discovered. It would be nice if the list was sortable, especially by planet quality. It can be a pain keeoing track of suitable planets for colonization, unless you keep a written record, which, while not a major deal, is something I hate doing in a computer game. Also, I wish there was a button for the mini-map which would highlight resources you've located and starbases you've bu
I understand the things you're saying; however, as I noted, it was early in the game, and I only possessed three planets. I had not yet constructed any starbases. The majority of the planets which defected to me had NO contact with me--they were way across the galaxy, and I hadn't even sent a scout to their sectors yet. As a matter of fact, the defections greatly assisted my ability to explore the map, because suddenly I had bases scattered all over the universe. Before this, my three planet
I imagine similar things have occurred to a number of you, but I found this amusing. In December 2187 of a game in a gigantic universe, with me owning three planets in the lower left corner, a wave of defections to my side began. By the end of January, at least twelve planets had come over to me, because I was "culturally superior." After January, the rate of defections slowed considerably, but there still were a number of months when more than one planet came over. Unfortuna
Yeah, I'd rather wait and have a more bug-free version, than hurry and have things left unfixed which could have been. As for the diplomacy, it will be okay if the sorts of things you mention can only come from the AI to the human. However, if you can figure out a way for the human player to send messages like, "Leave System X, or we will declare war," for example, with the AI being able to understand the message and weigh the pros and cons, it would certainly add another dimension to
I haven't seen anything about this here. In 2206 of a game in a large universe, two things occurred simultaneously. First, the small display in the lower right of the main screen, which usually shows the info on selected ships, no longer does so. Instead, it shows the message which goes with whatever special screen I last visited, e.g. "This is the Domestic Policy Screen"...etc. This makes things a bit more difficult, not being able to access the stats on a given vessel. Also, up un
I just wanted to bring up something that was mentioned here before, to keep it from being forgotten. I and some others had indicated that we would like to be able to pick a difficulty level, and have the computer randomly assign the relative abilities of the computer players based on this choice. This lets the player have a say in how hard the game will be, without letting him know from the beginning that AI player X is stupid, while AI playe Y is a genius. We'd have to find that ou
I just got the game [finally! Thanks, Patrick!], and, afterr a short game in a tiny universe to get my feet wet, I'm well into my first real game--a gigantic universe with lots of opponents--and it keeps crashing at the same point. I've got the degug file and the save, if you folks would like to see it. The crash is reproducible from the save, which means that I can't get past that point. So, I'm off to start a new game!
Even though I still am not able to download the game, I can't help but comment occasionally. This seems like a great idea to me. I know that, in other 4x games, it can become quite annoying having to manually coordinate the large number of ships usually around later in the game. Any tool to simplify this would be welcome.
Two or three days ago. When I first contacted him with the problem, he responded quickly and eventually sent me a new version of DGM to run and send the debug file to him. However, altho I've emailed a few times since, including a couple days ago, I haven't had a response from him since 5 November. At first, I figured he was trying to figure out what was wrong and would get back to me when he did. Eventually I emailed him again, but no response. Then Exodius posted his similar probl
I've uninstalled and reinstalled about a half-dozen times. I've also gone to the registry and eliminated all registry entires, as was suggested in another post here, then reinstalled. But, none of this has improved the situation. I'm no closer to connecting to GalCiv today than I was three weeks ago when I bought the game. And now it's the weekend, so most likely nothing will happen 'til at least Monday--altho, the way things are going, I'll be thrilled if something DOES happen Monda
I couldn't remember whether I had, so I tried it just now. No change, however. The "Games" window remains empty.
Yes, I've got "Show Betas" checked. and I think I have the newest version of DGM--recently when I tried to connect, I got a message that it was updating, so I imagine it's the latest. I'm not behind a firewall, and the serial number appears to be fine. For a breif period, the expiration date was showing as 1900, but that has gone away and it is correct now. My address disappears everytime I try to connect [I quit re-entering it], but the remainder of the info stays put. Yes, I'm in c
Hi Folks, Can't anyone figure out why I can't get the game? Exodius' difficulties were resolved in a couple of days. I purchased the game nearly three weeks ago, and still no success getting it to show up when I launch DGM. I really want to play this, even though it's just a beta. Everything I read here, plus all the screen shots, really have me psyched up, and it's highly frustrating to be waiting this long. I can't belive my system is so unusual that it has caused some ui
