I'm a senior inet infrastructure engineer (love that title) but I don't control the pix's or outbound squid so they could throw one up in front of me but I MIGHT be able to work around it....:^)

Mastermoo, you need it now....;^) Just kidding...I installed early galciv beta at work but rebuilt my workstation and never reinstalled. I've had a home internet connection for 8 years and find it quite necessary, very much like a phone, radio and tv. But that's just me. Hopefully work will never install a filter eh? Anyway, good luck should you decide to get the game. Cheers.

Rustyblade, $2000 for a computer? Where do you live? www.generalnanosystems.com, it's about 3 miles from my house and a computer is $299. I am sympathetic to all the comments here, out of curiosity, why does one not have internet access at home? Cost? One mentioned the distraction....strange argument, that one!

No manual for pre-orders. Hmmmmmm....that sucks. I really like the way Brad did the beta and was ECSTATIC to pre-order and get to download the beta....one great idea....but I did sort of think I was buying the boxed version with my pre-order. To be honest, I can't remember if I pre-paid for shipping or not. I thought that's what I was buying. All that having been said, I would do it again but I guess I'd read it more carefully.

David, unfair to have them penalized for their playing preferences? I know many disagree with me but those playing preferences (when it comes to an online ladder system) are not different than pulling out the hex editor. It's faster and achieves the same result. Just my opinion.

3. One man's cheese is another man's cheat. Save and reload defeats the whole point of the game for me. Of course, your milage will vary. If I save and reload if something bad happens after my decision, what's the point of being confronted with the decision in the first place? In reality, the difference between how many games I win would be how patient I am....why not reload 1000 times till I win? Why not reload every single turn if it doesn't end perfectly. Me, I acccept that I blew it

Lucky Jack, got ya. Yes, I perhaps misunderstood. If it goes in the galciv library then it would indeed have to be unencumbered by copyright. I thought we were purely discussing user mods. At any rate, a star trek mod would be pretty cool. I've been watching the old star trek series on dvd...remastered 5.1. Brings back memories of my youth in the 60's (I mean 7 and 8 yrs old type youth!).

Lucky Jack, it has nothing to do with Brad. Nobody need ask. Period. Stardock provides tools, if someone creates a mod that violates a copyright THEY are responsible unless stardock has an official position. Amen, Case closed, so on and so forth. Stardock is NOT creating it, and if they don't host the files, then it shouldn't be an issue. Brad cannot control what other people come up with and it would be precendent setting and assinine to hold them responsible. You say ask first, but t

If stardock feels there is a copyright problem they will refuse to host the files. Otherwise, fans can make all the mods they want and use all the copyrighted names they want. If the Star Trek copyright holder has an issue, he can deal with the mod maker. As long as stardock doesn't officially condone it, I would think they would not be liable. I wouldn't ask stardock, it isn't their issue.

Moo3? I like it. I like the fact that it doesn't play the same as every other 4x space game. Although it does feel just a little like Acendency, which I really hated. I'll give it more time before I form a final opinion but I like it so far..... :)
