That's definitely the serial code, it's in the same place on my manual (Kalypso version). Give it a few more tries and try to vary characters that can look very similar depending on the font used (like 8 / B and 7 / T). If it still doesn't work, either the code has already been used or it's faulty somehow.
I've never seen this happen and I do it all the time. Your starting colony ship starts with a pop of 100M but I've never seen the upgrade of your space miner occur to anything but 1M. As far as I know if you upgrade *any* non pop carrying ship (i.e. any ship without either a colony module or a troop transport module) into *any* pop carrying ship (i.e. any ship with either or both a colony module or a troop transport module) then the&n
I don't know of one, but consider the following. If you change a constructor to a colony ship in deep space and colonize a planet, you have some small initial population even though you never loaded colonists. I frequently use that if I send a constructor towards an anomaly or a border and inadvertently stumble upon (by scout, surveyor, or the constructor) a prize planet. Instead of waiting for a colony ship (and perhaps letting
Yeah, thanks for that. That's one that I hadn't figured out yet either. Now I'm a little sad that I spent most of my money on purchasing colony ships in a game I started yesterday.
And while I can sort of understand how you fill up colony ships (the government says "OK, we're taking this many people offworld to start a new life, who wants on?), I think it would be hard to do the same thing with military transports. Aren't significant slices of the colony population too old/young/disabled to fight in a full-fledged ground war? Not to mention whatever the 22nd centuary equivalent is of "conscientions objectors". There would be
This is a no-brainer. I see the current focus on graphics as the biggest reason for the decline in PC gaming. During the 80's and 90's around 50% of the games made for the PC were really good. Games were made with passion by people who themselves played games. Just about anyone could get into the industry, there were a ton of great games to choose from that even today around 20 years later still shine when looking at their story, gameplay and complexity. There were 3D cards during the 90's bu

They didn't bother to come here to Finland and I didn't feel like shelling out the cash to see them "live" in a movie theater. I'm thinking a
As already pointed out, the choice of party depends on what stats you're trying to achieve for your race. I always want a research bonus, production bonus and a population growth bonus as my strategy is based on outresearching everyone else while rapidly spreading to and building up new planets. When I started playing I used the Industrialist party and used my points to get the research and pop growth bonus. I soon however noticed that the Technologist party is far superior. The cost
Information Warfare or Mini-Soldiers depending on the planets morale. Because they're effective and don't damage the planet.
Yes the AI does research those techs. And I wouldn't call it a disadvantage. If losing a few research points bothers you so much, when you're just about done researching the tech in question reduce your research slider until it shows that it will take 2 turns to research it and then raise the slider one notch so that it goes back to 1 turn. That way you'll minimize the research point loss. I'd advice you to do the same at the end of the research branches.
Of course you need the tech in question to get those bonuses. Getting a newer tech doesn't yield you the bonuses of unresearched older techs.
Sounds like you're doing great, just keep it up! In my game I unfortunately let the DL spread to around 10 planets and completely wipe out the Drath. The Yor again eventually took out the Torians and Iconians. The Arceans and Altarians however built up decent empires that helped my research and keeping enemy ships at bay at times. Two important tactics that you didn't mention are establishing a lot of trade routes with your allies and building the galactic privateer wonder. The DL won
I haven't tried it myself but I think the transport trick also works and is probably even more effective than the influence bases. The AI certainly don't like a bunch of enemy transports next to their worlds. It will probably hurt your own relations with the AI race more than the influence bases though as Scanian8 pointed out. Even with the influence bases it's best to work quickly.
Try building some highly upgraded influence bases deep inside both of their territories and then give them to your opponents so that they both have active influences bases near each others planets. This should cause a tension on their relations and eventually you should be able to manipulate them into war with each other. It will take some time however and if you only want to remove the economic treaty that's not possible - only a declaration of war between the two parties will break a treaty
I agree with the OP and most people in this thread. [e classic]:congrat:[/e]
Looks like Blizzard is joining the ranks of Westwood, Maxis, Origin and Bullfrog. R.I.P. [e digicons]x_x[/e]
Do they remain as icons even when you zoom in? The icons should appear when you zoom out beyond a certain point but when you zoom back in the 3D models should come back.
There's not many TV shows worth watching these days. There are a few exceptions though. Spooks Mythbusters Poirot I should take a look at that Jeremiah show. Babylon 5 was pure bril
You don't need all 3 defenses to be protected. Any given defense will also protect against other attacks by the value of its square root so if you have a high shield level it will also protect against low level missile and mass driver attacks. Besides, the opponets almost always focus on one weapon technology and you just need to focus on the defensive technology that counters it. If you then go to war against another opponent that uses a different weapon tech you should design new ships with

Hey, thanks for the help. I had no idea that you could change where you want the My Documents directory to be. I don't like the My Documents directory and try to avoid using it. I have made my own directories for photos, music, videos and documents and the only apps that insist on using My Documents are a few games like GalCiv II. Since it's only used by games it indeed belongs on the D partition. As I'm using Windows XP I think I won't mess around with the junction stuff. I had hoped there w
I've noticed GalCIV II puts all saved games and related files into the C:\My Documents\My Games\ directory by default. My C drive is a small partition dedicated entirely to Windows, applications and the page file and I have a over 10 times larger D partition for my games. The space on my C drive is running out and the GalCiv II saves is a big part of the problem as they're about 2Mb each. After a month of playing the campaigns my saves already take up around 500Mb. Even if I had more free spa
I'm having this problem in DA too. Anyone found any solution how to get the music back? This didn't happen in DL.

You will find that the stupid AI leaves planets undefended from time to time and if you have allies they will take ca
Oh, I'm playing Dark Avatar now and just as I hoped it has much less bugs. It hasn't crashed at all so far and the ships also behave as they should. I'm also liking the improved research tree although the revised engines are forcing me to rethink the way I design my ships. Just as I had read on these forums the Dread Lords campaign was quite disappointing with only two truly challenging missions. I think they were called Siege and Armageddon. The 9th mission at first seemed like a goo
