doggone it...somehow I posted this here instead of the Help board AGAIN...grrrr
digital_trucker
http://pws.chartermi.net/~digital_trucker/test_gauges/DriveGauges.dxpack These gauges populate automatically based on the number of drives in your system. They're SUPPOSED to reset themselves if you add or remove a drive. I don't have any removable drives myself, so i need someone with DX and removable drives to test them for me. Respond here or in #stardock, thanks much!
All files taken down...going to rescript them...thanks for all your help, everyone!
Thanks to some advice from PJ, I've fixed the scripts a bit to close some memory holes...new versions here for testers... http://pws.chartermi.net/~digital_trucker/test_gauges/testHardDriveGauges.dxpack http://pws.chartermi.net/~digital_trucker/test_gauges/testOpticalDriveGauges.dxpack Thanks for all the help, folks!
Thanks, AndreasV...but none of the above info matches up with what my code returns in use...
Awesomeness! They detect drives across a network, just like they're supposed to!
Hey IPlural...I am awake actually....I jus forgot to change my nick in IRC
happy new year
Gee, I wish I had StyleXP, too
It's made with the latest beta...but that shouldn't matter at all.
I also have a question about the script I'm using... drive.DriveType returns a 1 for a floppy, 2 for a hard drive, and 4 for a CD/DVD. What drive would return a 3? or a 5? How many different types are there?
http://pws.chartermi.net/~digital_trucker/testOpticalDriveGauges.dxpack Gauges for Optical drives The needle points straight down if the drive isn't ready. No graphic for that yet. [Message Edited]
Doesn't track CD/DVD drives...let me make a mod and they will. Hang tight
http://pws.chartermi.net/~digital_trucker/testDriveGauges.dxpack This pack auto-generates gauges. One for every ready hard drive. It works fine on my system with 3 drives, and seems to work fine on others. However, on some machines with multiple hard drives, it crashed DX or fails to label the gauges. I need someone who knows what they're doing with DX Script to check 'em out and help me perfect them. Thanks, folks! Wrong board...sorry [Message Edited]
Or you could do what I do...create something nice (one guy rated it a 9 ), but because it's so extraordinarily out-of-the-ordinary that it only enjoys limited use. Ah well, the price of individuality...(or just plain being weird,I forget which).
Basically, what I want to do is have the theme create one complete analog gauge for every logical drive (hard drives, CD, DVD, etc.) on the user's system. Of course, that will be different for everyone. Hence the need to create/duplicate objects dynamically on theme load. I believe it can be done, I've just got to learn how to do it.
Will do Say, I hear you know a bit about creating DX objects dynamically? As part of my theme, I'm going to have analog drive gauges...I'm going to want to dynamically create a gauge for each logical drive when the theme loads. I've got MSM, AIM, and YaGoo if yuo're interested in helping me in real time.
Currently, on my system WB is using 2.464 Megs of RAM, and 1.8 Megs of VM
*applause* for IPlural I am in awe of your essay, sir. Well said!
How come nobody invited ME to the baby-tossing? I always miss the fun...
I appreciate the effort, Travis...I think I need a little more in-depth help. Looks like I'll have to hit the bookstore tomorrow.
How about this for a solution to the problem of all these dickweeds registering just to cause trouble; You have to be a registered member of WC (not necessarily a paying one) for at least one month before you're allowed to post. If you need help, go to IRC.
I'd lilke some info on what the various controls included with DX actually do...and how to use them properly. I don't seem to find much about them at Stardock. Any pointers?
