I like it that way, I play with rare stars abundant planets .... really gives the feeling of "space" on a gigantic map. And as was mentioned above it actualy gives value to range and speed which on the smaller maps mean nothing. If you dont like lots of space play with 'scattered' rather than tight clusters it spreads the stars out evenly so you hardly even notice the space and all players regions will be joined with very little room between them. Didnt I read in the patch notes that you had fixed the issue where if you destroy a mining starbase you can then build a starbase on it again? Just destroyed my first one since updating via stardock to patch 008 and after blowing it up you cant even select the resource (ie clicking on the map on the resource does nothing). Saving and reloading fixes it as before though at least. Myros

The patch released last night has helped a lot with save game problems for me. I can even load old save games that would crash as soon as the next turn button was pressed. Played for about 5 hours with saves every 2 turns and didnt do the crash thing once. (before it was crashing every 10 - 20 minutes) It did start to get pretty laggy by the end of 5 hours though, possible memory leek maybe, at which point the game did crash. But when I reloaded it the game was fine and running s

Initial Impressions of the patch - Well after 30 seconds of play my impressions are the patch is outstanding ! So how can I say this after 30 seconds? Because I loaded 2 games that previously ended up crashing the next time the end turn button was pressed no matter what. The only thing thats different now when I load the saves is that a race I have been at war with for

1. A "no tech sharing" options toggle (just like Civ IV ). For all the talk of designing ships to counter specific enemy threats/strengths its actualy pretty much the opposite because when you play large games with lots of AI they share so freely that everybody ends up with everything. No tech sharing gameplay would encourage specialization and IMO improve gameplay. (Though Id be a lot happier to see the AI MUCH improved on how what and who to it shares techs I know thats harder to do so a simpl

While I didnt hate MOO3 I was pretty dissapointed in its overall presentation, development and support. I loved the concept though ... I even made a couple of large skin mods for MOO3 that still get downloaded today, anything to cover up that ugly ass interface MOO3 shipped with But I have to agree that GalCiv II is what I had hoped for and well worth the wait. Other than the issue that I share

Same thing happens with Civ IV and the AI. The AI shares techs so freely and easily that the CivIV devs put in a simple options toggle "no tech trading" .... GalCiv II needs the same thing badly. By my defenition this is a "cheat" that the AI gets. Within a few turns any AI you meat will ALWAYS have 5 - 10 techs ahead of you. It would be impossible for any one race to get that far ahead so quickly, it is impossible for the human player to meet all the AIs let alone trade for all those

Because race is more than just the image (ie is also bik files for the animations etc) Im guessing the image numbers may be hard coded to match the animations which is why they wont show up. Id also like to add in a custom image for me leader, maybe we can get something like this added in a future update (a "load custom potrait" button or something). Minor thing but would be nice Myros

Getting the same exception error over and over. Happens between 15 - 45 minutes or so. AppName: galciv2.exe AppVer: 1.0.0.1 ModName: galciv2.exe ModVer: 1.0.0.1 Offset: 00014d85 Same offset everytime, if posting the full exception report will help I'll copy it next time. Myros

I just know you guys (the devs) are about to get hit by a class action lawsuit filed by the big corps and their puppet devs ... for creating a hostile work enviroment and unfair business practices. Sheesh, actualy communicating with common sense, information AND a sense of humor ... the nerve of some people! M

None of the editors save for me. WindowsXP. It goes through the processes and seems to save but the file never shows up, even doing a complete computer search shows all the original map/scenarios etc but the ones I make just vanish. Myros

Thanks for the tips Gerakken. On my new game Im trying the culture war and its difficult but Im finaly seeing some progress ... my influence sphere actualy extends beyond my own sectors ..woot! :) Lost a few built up stations to space sharks though, that hurt lol. Myros

Checked F8 for all sectors around my area ... my influence 36, all other civs 0 yet the color of the sectors when I turn on the overlay for the small map is of the AI to the north (in this case dark red). I understand that the AI may have some better overall influence because of the factors listed but unless the "small diffuse" total somehow adds up to more than my capital and all the surrounding stars then there is for sure a bug going on here. Myros EDIT - ok I guess I was a

Started playing Galciv again to check out the coming expansion and noticed something that had always bothered me but never asked ... on the influence overlay it always seems the AI have MASSIVELY greater influence spheres than I do. Started a game on a gigantic galaxy, expanded fairly well. Eventualy came into contact with the aliens to north and south a good ways away. Before long the one to the north cultural influence is not only across the 20 or so sectors to me but spreads to the s

Tried creating a scenario file using the editor .. used "save as" and typed in a name, clicked "save" and it seemed to work .. but, the file is nowhere to be found. I used winXP search function to search all drives on my computer (in case it was saving it somewhere else)and the scenarios I create just vanish into thin air I guess because they dont save. Myros

I really hated the overall look of MOO3 personaly - so I made a skin for it. Much happier playing it now when it looks better to me ..funny that huh :) http://www.neuralhq.com/work/moo3b_2.jpg Its available on orionsector.com btw if anybody wants it. As to the AI problems tho - thats another story. Hopefully they will get that patched up fairly quickly. In the mean time I still have GalCiv to look forward too :) Myros

I actualy thought it was a "good" review until I read his closing comments on the AI (or lack of). Without a strong AI to challenge players it really doesnt have anything. Im still getting it but Im not so psyched now. Still ... 2 new space 4x games coming out, gotta love that :) Myros

Had fun seeing part of the process of game development, thanks for opening it up the way you did and allowing such strong player input. The regular CD will be mailed to all of us after release now right? Myros
