1.19n issue. Speak of the devil, just started a brand new ridiculous game on random large vanilla map and Capitar died to monsters and ruffians on turn 10. I guarantee this is from not founding his capital - he seems to have a serious problem with this now and then. ARGH! Ok so here is my college thesis. I started a new game, same map but only changed the following: switched Pariden with Yithril (now testing Pariden and playing as Yithril) and the starting locations are different. Ran 10 games with new baseline save: Baseline save - http://dl.dropbox.com/u/19969679/Elemental/119n/119n_POPLOCKTESTBASELINE2_1.EleSav Here is the map I'm using. It&#
Ok so as I watched reruns of Gilligan's Island I decided to run games 11-20 using the same baseline save as the first 10. I assigned each starting location a # to see if there is consistency across future tests. Below are the results: Neither Kraxis or Capitar experienced further pop locks in 11-20. Their overall % dropped from 20% to 10%. Howeve
Removed - double post.
1.19 CTD: Ran an AI test, completed, went back to main menu. Entered cartographer, played around with a map, closed it without saving the map, reentered cartographer and CTD. I went to check on the dump and for some reason there was a rash of dumps in there over about a half hour period: Zip (debug, all the dumps) - http://dl.dropbox.com/u/19969679/Elemental/119n/119n_CTD_cartographer.zip.zip<
It was a reload from within a game. There was a time where you got an instant crash from 1 reload so they have made some improvement. I agree, this isn't as big an issue as the other oom's.
Egad, instant crash from a reload... not good.
Looks like Relias picked a bad day to quit amphetamines.
Arrgh, hot diggidy dawg, another 1.19DX error! Same thing, moving around on cloth map. Something is wrong with this map I think. I remember many patches ago playing a game on this map in this exact location and also got crashes galore. Frogboy's been busy and blaming it on Relias:
1.19n issue. I renamed Relias to Frogboy at the start of the game (this is now turn 92). However, at the birth screen the game announced Relias was the father. I am playtesting a mod so unsure if that caused it or if it's an issue with the vanilla game. Maury Povich demands a paternity test for Frogboy! 1.19n Pop Lock Analysis here: https://forums.elementalgame.com/407995 Results: Gilden, Capitar, & Kraxis all pop locked twice each over 10 games - 20% chance of that occurring for those factions None of the other 6 factions (Pariden unknown since ran test as player Pariden) ever experien
Purpose: Analyze strategic AI behavior to identify issues with factions pop locking. Definition: Pop locking is defined as a faction sitting at max initial population of starting capital and not building improvements, units, etc. Not doing anything to expand their faction. Watching Oprah, Springer, or Judge Judy. Scope: Cycling 36 turns of same map from the same turn 1 save, same factions, same starting locations, same AI difficulty level, and assessing whether a faction
1.19n CTD. Was zoomed in on my capital on 3d map and cycling turns to test pop lock for AI. CTD'd. It was a fresh load of Elemental, and it looks like it crashed on turn 24 or so. Zip (debug, last autosave, dump) - http://dl.dropbox.com/u/19969679/Elemental/119n/119n_ctd_24.zip
Yikes - 1.19n issue after a fresh load and ending one turn. Moving around on cloth map and boom! Zip (debug, save, no dump) - http://dl.dropbox.com/u/19969679/Elemental/119n/119n_85_dxerror.zip
I've been diligently testing the AI this beta series. The last post is here: https://forums.elementalgame.com/407926 . I have links to prior test threads in each one so you can follow all the way back to the beginning of this beta. I purposefully didn't test tactical (well known gaps with the AI already) or the use of magic strategically (too difficult to quickly test). Regardless, to me the biggest gaps I've noticed are: <
Just to clarify my thoughts on the matter (from playing, testing, and reading various dev posts): Definitive oom's from loading a game from within a game due to garbage collection process not clearing crud from the prior game (I'm not a programmer, just read up on memory leaks and such a couple of weeks ago) Random oom's from bugs and normal playing I think 1 is on the backburner for post 1.2 and possible revamp of how the game handles memo
I agree. I haven't read Brad's book or really any history to the lore but a list of faction-specific names would be cool and should be easy to implement. OMG, I agree with Lord Xia! JK. [e digicons]:digichet:[/e]
Yes, please fix. Then fix the other places where data shown on screen doesn't update properly, like your hit points not going up when you eat salted pork in combat until you eat another one.
Yeah, all of these are definitely polish issues. I've noticed them as well.
Hi mywhiskey, Were these oom's from loading a game from within a game? Or were they reloading after a fresh instance of Elemental? It appears reloading a game from within a game around 5-6 times will inevitable always lead to an oom (looks like garbage collection process leaves 40-50MB if garbage laying around per game). Just curious. Thanks. [Edit] You could test this by doing the following: Start new instance of Elemental Load last saved game</li

Nice work! I think the load a game from within a game OOM issue is due to the garbage collection process not picking up all the memory garbage left over from the previous game (from what I've read up on memory leaks). From reading various posts I think Derek and team know of this issue but it's going to be a post 1.2 fix, possibly with a revamp of how all memory is handled. But nice analysis!
Quoting AlLanMandragoran, reply 6I'm not sure to be honest. But Capitar is consistently pop locking on the ridiculous level so the evidence, to me at least, indiciates the factions have their own threads. Actually, they must have their own threads, right? We can choose different difficulty levels per faction so the rules that govern each faction can be different... I really have no idea other than for two builds in a row, same
