It's not reporting any errors creating the device, although the debug.err said that you're still launching in fullscreen mode. Is it making a zip or .dmp file at C:\ProgramData\Stardock\Elemental - War of Magic ? (It's a hidden folder, but you should be able to go to it by pasting the folder name in explorer). If so, please post it at dropbox.

I believe that I have fixed this; I didn't reproduce this one specifically but I fixed multiple bugs with cities and FOW which were likely responsible for this bug.
No, it doesn't work yet. I forgot to disable it. When it does work, you'll have to download the save game from the server.
I've fixed the bug with trying to edge scroll right and increased the default scroll speed, and changed the slider for scroll speed option to have notches so that you can get better results. Edge scrolling doesn't work in windowed mode because if you move your mouse off the window, it loses focus. We used to have it check when it got near the edge, but this caused other errors.

If you happen to do this again by accident, please post your debug.err file as it might contain errors that will help us track this down. I'm not sure why it would break to the point of needing to re-install; losing the device usually doesn't cause permanent damage. Did you try rebooting before you tried re-installing?
Working on fixing these now, should have them fixed for the next update.
This should be fixed in the next update. However, if you play against another human player and they pick the same sovereign, you may still end up with a random sovereign.
Copying my reply from the other thread: The next update will have an updated overlay which should return more helpful error messages. In the meantime, you can check the folders I mentioned above for the log files and look at one of the files whose name starts with CVPLoginResponse. If you see the message "Sorry but your account does not have access (a valid registration) to this title" it usually means that your Impulse account uses a different e-mail than the one you pr

I was able to reproduce this problem and fix it. It was a bug in the code that allows you to force Elemental to start in a secondary monitor.

I'll copy my reply from the other thread If it happens again, there are some debug files that you can send us. On Vista and Windows7, zip up the folder C:\ProgramData\Stardock\Elemental - War of Magic\ImpulseReactor and send it to . On XP, the folder is D:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Stardock\Elemental - War of Magic\ImpulseReactor. I'll also speak with the overlay programmer ab

Did you get an error message from your firewall and that's how you knew it was your firewall, or did you just try disabling the firewall after Elemental closed? Did you get an error from Elemental saying that it couldn't download the data files?
I've actually just fixed that bug; the movement cost was being deducted when the unit started moving rather than when they finished the move. There's still a lot of features not enabled yet. You may want to wait to pass final judgement on the game. As for being able to cancel your pre-order, the short answer is no. https://store.stardock.com/policy.aspx
It's right click to move.
Have you tried rebooting?
From that screenshot, I'm assuming this game will need at least a DirectX10 card to run, am I right?
No. You'll need a DirectX 9c card that supports Shader 2, although be mindful that some of the video cards lie about what they actually support.
Also, if you have multiple monitors, go into My Documents\My Games\Elemental\prefs.ini and set Fullscreen=0 and see if that works as we seem to be having issues with NVidia cards when running in fullscreen with multiple monitors.
This appears to be an issue with multiple monitors, as turning off the second monitor makes the bug not happen. We'll continue to look into this.
Try going to C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Stardock\Elemental - War of Magic and delete your Screens folder. Then do a verify install to make sure that you have everything. If it says that you have a good install, try turning off anti-aliasing.
Well I can play other games with aliasing no problem.
That may be true, but we are seeing a pattern with the 8800, which is why I contacted NVidia, and there was a similar bug with anti-aliasing when we were working on GalCiv2. We're still looking into it, but it helps to have NVidia looking at it on their end as well. Luckily, they're very responsive over at NVidia, always ready to help.

Then do a verify install to make sure that you have everything, as there's an error message about not being able to find a minimap window. If it says that you have a good install, try turning off anti-aliasing. We've been seeing problems with the Nvidia 8000 series.
I can start the game on x2 aliasing, but it will normally crash repeatedly after 6 to 12 turns. With it off I made it to 50+ turns. Before I was using x4 and x8 also does not work.
I've contacted NVidia so that they can check to see if this is a bug in their drivers or if it's something that we need to fix in Elemental.
