I understood that building it all in strings in the code was the wrong way to do it, unfortunately I wasn't able to find any examples or hints on how to do what I wanted to do, so I went the way I knew already to save some time. the VP201s seems to be a pretty solid monitor. Excellent price-point (around $700 US most sites I've checked). Pretty good reviews (though a few complaints about using the analog input and trying to autosync... but I'll just use DVI). Most people seem to say UT 2k4 works really well, so I imagine most other games would as well. Excellent suggestion, it's now on my "consider" list!

stubby - I have the same problem as you since I like large monitors with a very high resolution. Most of what's out there doesn't scale right so I'm very limited on what I widgets and such I can use.
