Ok, I'm a democrat, I voted for Kerry, and I was disappointed (but not surprised) when Bush won. That said... GIVE IT UP! I'm sick and tired of this conspiracy crap. I could go with it a bit in the last election when the whole thing came down to a few hundred votes (but after the 3d or 4th recount, it was settled in my mind), but this time it's not even close. Last time the left was crying about losing the electoral but winning the popular

I love animated films! This and The Polar Express look to be the two big movies for me this holiday season! Unfortunately I don't have any small children to take to said films, so I'll get to endure a whole lot of really odd/mean looks from parents taking their kids. Seems the general assumption is that no older male would ever go to an animated film unless with a small child... no kid means I must be a mean nasty child molestor searching out my nex

I'm glad Kerry did the right thing and just conceded without dragging this whole thing out in the courts etc like Gore did in 2000. This is perhaps the ONLY thing he has done to strengthen the Democratic party as a whole. We were so smashed up after the five weeks of recounts in Florida, our credibility totally shot. We came away from the last election as really sore losers... hell some of us are still pissed about that. This time around we shouldn

Some people do honestly believe in Kerry, I've not met many of them however, which is why I think this race is so close. If he had just picked a position and stuck with it, the split would probably be very different. My family are prime examples of people who can't articulate why Kerry is better, but just insist he is, and that he'd do an amazingly better job than Bush, and any disagreement usually results in a yelling match. If we lose th

* End the war in Iraq sooner than John Kerry Now that we're there, we have to finish it, and finish it right. This can't be a rush job or we'll leave it in worse shape than it's in today. I even disagree with Kerry's claim of "in 4 years". You can't put a time limit on this now that we've set everything in motion. We can't go around the world screwing with countries and then running when we finally realize that we got in too deep. We are respo

For the left, there's more the "I don't care who wins as long as Bush is gone!" mentality. As has been stated in the past, no one has sparked the same sort of feverish hatred from the opposition as Bush has. To get Bush out, you have to throw your support behind the one who has the best chance of beating him. The left so strongly dislikes Bush that it largely blinds them to much else. On the right however, most who don't like Bush simply disagree w

Man, if it weren't for my asbestos underwear, I'd be crispy fried! woo! I was just bracing myself for it since it seems civil political discussions can be hard to come by around here, especially so close to the election. I'll be the first to admit I simply can't understand why anyone feels they have the right and duty to tell other people how to lead aspects of their l

*shrug* I'm not trying to convince or sway anyone to my way of thinking... that's not possible when it comes to politics or religion. I'm just trying to present my perspective on everything, to show that not all of us democrats are complete left-wing nut jobs.

This race has been horrible. Absolutely dismal. The democratic party managed to run its campaign straight into the ground, and then beat itself over the head repeatedly with bricks. The press didn't help matters much by making it completely and utterly obvious that they were trying to stack the race in favor of Kerry. I don't think we've ever had a campaign this p

It'll be interesting to see how close your model ends up being to the actual results. I'm with Historyishere on this one, you should license it to the media as a visualization/prediction tool. It would certainly rock to see news anchors playing a video game to explain results or to predict outcomes.

Some time ago I wrote about the use of epic, far-reaching stories in video games to create a truely unique and lasting experience. How it is the inclusion of a good and well thought-out story that makes a game really stand out and shine. But after giving the matter some more thought I realized that I was only touching on half of the equation. A story is all well an

Sadly LASKIK won't fix my vision problems. I have lazy-eye and I don't think there's anything that can be done short of rather invasive and expensive surgery. I wish I could fix my vision problems this easily.

Why can't people just accept that the Sox pulled it together and played better than the Yankees in these last four games? Never underestimate what a team can do if they really get motivated (as they were with a 3 game defecit). Both sides were exhausted after a grueling series and it looks like the Yankees already slim pitching staff just couldn't cover it as well as Boston.

I'm a guy who normally couldn't give a crap about baseball... but this post season for the Sox has gotten me excited again. It definitely helps that I just moved up to CT about a month and a half ago... here everyone is either a passionate Yankees fan (boo evil empire!) or a Sox fan (reverse the curse!), so passions are running high where I work and it's just a ton of fun. I'll be glued to my radio tonight listening to the game (because radio announc

You can't compare The Daily Show to a news show. It's a comedy show on a comedy channel... Stewart himself said it on Crossfire when he said that the lead-in to his show was puppets making crank phone calls. It's getting a lot of attention right now because of the spirited joke rivalry with O'Rielly, and now the famous debacle that was Stewart's appearance on Crossfire. I find that if you can't laugh at yourself in any given capacity (be it

Between this and the use of DesktopX for The Political Machine, you guys have the beginnings of not just a nice suite of tools for general app and interface development, but some cool stuff for a game development kit. You've got all the tech for limited 3d games laid out (TPM's game map, and soon GalCiv2). I'd be really interested to see your offerings tailored a little bit and bundled as a game dev toolkit <img src="../images/smiles/smile.gif" bord

I blocked anon users long ago. It's the only way to filter out the crap. If a regular user spams you, then Brad & Co. can actually take action against them. Give someone online true anonimity, and they'll be complete dickwads

Off the top of my head I have to manage passwords for 14 accounts. Now this doesn't count any forums or game services I use (i.e. MMOs, Steam etc). I have a set of 4, maybe 5 passwords I use across all of them, and most of them are just slight transformations on 2 or 3 base passwords. As I gather more and more critical accounts it's getting harder and harder to remember which passwords I use where, and most systems have a three strikes and you're ou
