Adware is generally any software that includes advertising that is either very intrusive, or in some way obstructs the user from using the application or their system normally. The store component does not limit, interfere or in any way impact use of Impulse or your system. It's a tab in the application which loads a web page, that if you don't browse to it again after the initial load, you may never see again. Just because the software contains the ability to sell through

That skin was designed by TSF for nVidia and to the best of my knowledge was never made available for download by TSF. Your best bet is to contact them about the skin and how to obtain it.

As others have articulated quite well, it's about diversity and competition in the digital distribution marketplace. Also, Steam and Impulse are not on a direct path to butt heads. Steam does what it does very well. By and large it is a great multiplayer and digital distribution system for valve games. I love the way they've integrated community and achievements into titles like Team Fortress 2. So if you look at it from audiences served, Steam targets the hardcore

The ratings issue has been brought up over and over again in many threads by many different people over the years. If someone had a real, workable replacement to the star system that would still provide USERS with a meaningful score to browse skins by, I'm all ears. Star ratings will go away if and only if a real, viable, and easy to understand method can be developed. It has to be something that is immediately understandable to anyone who comes to the site seeking skins.

Impulse will automatically let you know about updates when they're made available on the public servers. You shouldn't have to ever worry about whether or not you have the most up to date version, it's meant to take care of that for you.
I'm using 3 beta 5, and everything works fine. Should I expect that to change when the final version is released next week?
Nope. If it works now it'll probably work on Tuesday. It's not really an issue of functionality. You'll still be able to post, reply, read etc, it's just that things may look a little bit off, with some elements of the site misaligned etc. It's mostly a cosmetic pro

Yesterday the news broke that Firefox 3 final would be released to the public on Tuesday, June 17th With every new major version of Firefox, changes are made to how the browser renders pages, in an effort to get closer and closer to published standards. Unfortunately, since the major web browsers all render pages slightly differently, custom stylesheets have to be built for each specific browser we supp

Happy Friday the 13th folks. Hopefully your Friday is free of bad lick, ill omens, or serial killers in hockey masks! But if it is, we do have something to take your mind off of all of that (well not the killer part, it's hard to forget about that part). As he does every Friday, Island Dog rounds up some of the best skins submitted over the course of the week. This week it's a selection of cursors,

In the case of politics, wikipedia is not a trustworthy information source. Often pages are edited with strong bias. Wikipedia in general has shown a very strong pro-liberal, anti-corporate slant in how articles are edited. Read the G W Bush article specifically to see an example. The voice of the text is very obviously slanted. And KFC you still haven't actually posted anything Obama himself has said that would be damning. He attended Marxist conferences?&nb

This morning, as I updated myself on the happenings of my friends via e-mail, Facebook and Twitter, one of my friends posed an interesting question… “My worry about this brave new world of social networking is that it may alienate us from “real life” friends, especially ones not on the grid. So, great, I feel so connected to people I’ve never met, but what about family and friends I

Keeping up with his regular stream of screencasts, Island Dog yesterday put together a great video demo for WindowBlinds 6, showing users how to do everything from apply a theme, to recoloring, adjusting transparencies and blur effects, adding explorer backgrounds, using the wallpaper manager and even importing .msstyles into WindowBlinds directly. It's a great video to link to friends and family who are

Since 2005, skinning community site Customize.org has hosted the Desktopography project, an annual exhibition of stunning wallpaper art that is simply some of the best wall work I've ever seen. Participation is by invite-only, but because of this the results are always top-notch. The idea is that our moods can be heavily influenced by what we see every day, and for many of us we spend our days staring at a computer screen. While it's hard to get a good nature loo

The fine folks over at the gaming site Rock, Paper, Shotgun are giving away five copies of Sins of a Solar Empire, the surprise strategy game hit of 2008. The best part is that entering could not be easier! Here's what you have to do: Here’s the question: What is the best line of dialogue ever to be uttered in a science fiction capacity? This means it must be a line from a science fiction m

Ok, how has he not fully supported the country? The lapel pin? Is that the best that anyone can come up with? I'll also ask this question here... what does it matter if his family has members who are muslim? Even militant ones? Are you telling me that no one in your family is a little bit off their rocker? Should we judge you by the actions of members of your family? I've been digging in Google for a while for references to Obama actively supporting

The problem I have is you're approaching the information void as being some sort of indictment against him. You're not approaching this as "Who is he? What can I learn?" so much as "I know nothing, he must be hiding things! There must be something sinister or un-American behind him." Again I ask, what difference does his family make? Does having relatives who are muslim diminish him in some way? And what's wrong with having better relations with Afr
