He chose to remove his work from the site in response to a moderator action on one of his recent submissions. We will not discuss specifics of moderation with anyone other than the original author. I'm going to close this thread since it's an issue between a specific skinner and site staff.

Departing from our normally cheery news of cool skins, neat programs and new releases, today I wanted to share with everyone some news that could have a very significant impact on copyright law in the United States, specifically in the area of reusing work by other artists. The US Orphan Works Act of 2008 has two very important a
It's the start of a new month, so once more I polled the moderators for their favorite skins of the month that was. It's a short list this month as many mods are taking some time off for vacations, holidays etc. <SPAN class=Dynam
We're actually not sure on the number of downloads anymore. The software I was using to count and track listeners basically choked on the server logs and just spews out errors now.
So far I've gotten two solid rants in on the podcast. First AT&T, now this. Are folks interested in a semi-regular rant as part of the show?
It could have been a lot harsher, that's for sure... but I had to tone it down a bit :)
If this thread can't stay on-topic and people can't play nice, it will be locked. I'm going to try and be very clear on this point... If you have a problem with a SKIN, we welcome you to express your opinions and critiques of the skins on the site in the comments section, the forums, IRC etc provided it is CONSTRUCTIVE AND CIVIL. If you have a problem with a SKINNER, either keep it between you and that skinner, or keep it to yourself. This site is not a ven
I had a killer weekend... 4th of July Parade Fireworks Minigolf Picnic Dinner with friends Rented a few movies I wish all of my weekends were this much fun.
Today's show is just ID and myself. In episode 12 we talk largely about the loss of SkinArtistry and the (&%@ hackers who ruined a great site. We get probably 5 or 6 min of ranting out of that. The second half of the show we talk about what we look for when picking skins to feature on the front page. Everything from proper previews, to original and enticing designs. If you've ever wondered what goes through our minds when we pick a skin, then you definitely want to
Opera, Firefox and safari don't seem to want to work when I click the Reply button. IE 7 works. Running VU 64bit.
Please be more specific by saying what versions of Opera and Firefox you're using. As for Safari support, there are no plans at this time to add support for safari. If Safari becomes considerably more popular than it currently is among windows users, we will consider it. For now though there is not suffecient demand for support to justif
Please remember that if you are going to make a Dream out of someone else's video (i.e. Blizzard's), you need to make sure it meets the following rules before uploading it to WinCustomize: Must be less than 25% of the length of the original video OR Must be less than 15 seconds of the original video. Whichever results in the shortest segment. So for a 3 min movie, you could get a 15 second clip. For a 30 second movie, you could get a 7.5 second clip
Welcome back from the long holiday weekend everyone! I hope everyone had a fun, restful few days (I know I did). Now however, it's back to work, emails, conference calls and meetings. So to help ease you back into the working world, here are some of my favorite skins from the long weekend. Enjoy! <A id=ctl00__ContentArea__SkinList_ctl32__ListSkin__SkinPreviewLink href="https://www.wincustomize.com/skins.
WinCustomize is the only site currently where any ranks beyond citizen, and moderator matter. On WinCustomize certain site functions are restricted to higher-level users (such as rating skins, submitting work without moderator review etc.) But on sites like JU, ImpulseDriven, Sins, Galciv etc, the ranks don't have any technical purpose. On GalCiv 2, back when the game was originally in testing, there was a forum only accessible to Diplomat users or higher (rank 3), these we
Derivative works and reuse of non-original elements is a tricky bit that a LOT of people at one point or another on this site have tripped over. While we have slightly different fair use rules for things like Dreams, static art generally has to meet the following criteria: Must be 100% your original work. This means that all the drawing is yours. You don't use images from other artists, you don't use clipart from a CD, you don't repurpose photographs from magazines etc.&nb
To all of our US community members, I'd like to wish you all a happy Independence Day holiday filled with grilling, fireworks and all other sorts of fun. Be safe, enjoy the time off, and relax! Because of the holiday weekend, Stardock is closed starting today, July 3rd and will reopen on Monday, July 7th. This means that until Monday, there will be no official support available on these forums, via phone

It's funny, I have a $400 sound setup at home right now for the podcast (borrowed the equipment we used for the PowerUser.TV podcasts back in 2006) and I don't know that I get much higher quality overall. Recording the podcast tonight will be interesting, I wonder how the quality will come out over skype.
If you've tried to visit SkinArtistry.com in the last day or so, you've found yourself staring at the following notice: "Skinartistry.com is now officially closed due to hackers installing a series of php scripts, to send out spam, and other various malware. I am sorry that it had to come to this, but they say the third time is the charm. To all those that
Last month I decided to make the monthly screenshot thread a little bit more interesting by giving away a WinCustomize subscription to the person who posted, what I thought was, the best screenshot. The only particular rule I had in place was that I would only look at the user's first submitted screenshot in the thread, so folks who posted half a dozen or more only qualified with their first submission. Sadly there were some great screenshots I wanted to list off here that were 2n
Island Dog is back with yet another helpful and informative screencast. This time he's showing off how to change windows explorer backgrounds with WindowBlinds 6. It's a quick video, clocking in at nearly 4 minutes, but it covers virtually every feature related to the background changing features. So if you wanted to see exactly how to change out your explorer backgrounds, give the video a look. On
Don't bother staying awake. It'll be "tomorrow" Stardock time. Go to sleep, take it easy, come back after you've had a full night's sleep. Don't sweat it, it's not like we're giving away a computer or anything ;-)
That's for tomorrow :)
You must convert the image into a LogonStudio file using LogonStudio Vista. You must then upload THAT file and the JPG as a preview.
It's the 1st of July, so it's time for a new Monthly Desktop Screenshot thread on the forums! Snowman kicks things off with a JJ Ying skin and a killer car wallpaper Share your desktop shots with the community!
