When new submissions slow down in a gallery, it's always fun to see what was uploaded in years past, or what is the most popular content of all time. Today I was skimming through the IconPackager gallery and decided to check out which packs have the most downloads of all time. I assumed that it would all be stuff from 2001, 2002, 2003 since they'd have been on the site the longest, but they jumped around in terms of date. Here are the top five downloaded IconPacks of all t

What folks don't realize though is that if a region of the world pirates everything they possibly can, be it because of culture, economy or whatever, that they're cutting themselves out of the overall market. If Egypt has a 90% piracy rate (made up number) why should anyone attempt to make a product, or tailor a product to Egypt? What you'll see is places like this get left behind entirely as digital media continues to advance. Which is fine if they want to consume music, m
You need to select a category from the list at the bottom of the LiveWriter screen. At the moment, if nothing is selected, it defaults to Personal Computing. We're looking into that.
Discussion about new content does not mean that "older" sections are discarded. When it comes to site changes, adding a new gallery for a new product is considerably easier than reorganizing an existing gallery with all of its content. In the short term, I could add a cell theme gallery and grow the site, community and skin gallery. If I wanted to go in and fundamentally change how a gallery is organized or presented, I need a lot of time, at least one dedicated d
We have no sponsor bits yet. If you're seeing anything, you're seeing regular ads that are mistakenly being displayed on the page.
As DeskScapes 2.0 draws nearer (it's been available as a beta to Object Desktop subscribers for a little while now), I thought this would be a good time to highlight some of the great Dreams the community has been creating and uploading lately. <SPAN class=DynamicDropShadow_2 id=_sha
It's almost that time again, time for a refresh and a new snapshot of Object Desktop for 2008. This year, in addition to the regular refresh to the suite of customization tools, we're splitting it up into two separate groups: Object Desktop and Object Desktop Ultimate. The Guided Tour explains exactly what that sp

Tutorial articles showing you how to use an application through screenshots and blurbs of text can be very helpful in learning your way around a tool, but often even with screens and text, it can be confusing on how exactly to access a given feature or option. To that end, Island Dog has been working on a series of Screencasts, narrated video walkthroughs of several skinning/customization applications, fo
By the way, I don't mean to imply that the vote for "No" was the wrong one, merely that I was surprised and didn't entirely understand it. I was seeking clarification and explanation. As to polling people on the site for what they'd like added to the site... seems perfectly reasonable to me. People here visit many different websites for different content. I'd like to make WC the place they come for most, if not all of it over time. So I ask the current audience
Reuploading will NOT help. THe fact that it was public on the first upload was the mistake. Placing it to your personal page was the CORRECT action. Uploading it again will not change this.
Complete customization. Wallpapers, themes, icons, whatever a phone is capable of. I see no reason to limit it.
I don't get it.
I wonder if this is a major contributing factor to the poll turning out like it did. I'd wager that most folks here don't have a cell phone, or only use one for the basic call features. To this group, the idea of skinning their phone is the height of pointlessness. Who cares what color the screen is when I'm on a call? But I do find the attitude interesting considering we're all involved in skinning the PC, an activity m
It's just like Google huh? Imagine that! ;-) The search is powered by the Google Custom Search Engine product. We knew we'd never be able to do a search feature that good so we went to the pros! The only down-side is there's a delay between when a new article is posted, and when it will be searchable. Just have to wait for google to reindex us (they do it once a day or more on average). It indexes/searches all content on the site. Posts, comme
100% not. I sure this person was mad on me thats why its happend.
I've seen the admin discussion section associated with your wallpaper (all items have an area for comments by admins). I've also seen the ratings by the initial moderator on both the deleted and the current version, as well as subsequent ratings by users. There was no malice. No one was mad. It wasn't a grudge or a punishment. It just simply was the opinion of the moderation
I voted NO. While I appreciate the direction Wincustomize is heading with MY COLORS and the changes concerning Stardock Central. I am concerned that you might be stretching yourself too thin. Due to the recent number of delays and/or in various new applications, I feel that your attention should be focused on your current roles and responsibilities to your current users. (Who by the way are not here for cell phone stuff.) I feel you need to show us that you can handle the extra burden,
When am I going to get my "Ban Zubaz" button added to the admin interface?
Note: Smileys will not appear on the site quickly. We are going to take time to make sure the images all work 100% as expected on all of our forums before making them live.
As we've worked on updating the look and feel of the forums, we realized it was finally time for some new emoticons/smileys. Our previous set, designed by CerebroJD had served us well for many years, but it was time to look to the future for something new. Since we have a community of incredibly talented visual artists, I turned to you seeking a new smiley set. While it got off to a slow start, you pulled together some terrific smiley sets. Here's what we had to choo
Last week's poll was a surprise. People actually voted against the idea of a brand new gallery on the site, and when I've talked about other new galleries in the past the general response seems to either be "meh" or "no" so it raises a question in my mind. Does the community on the whole want the site to expand in its coverage to cover new types of skinning? With the advancement of cell phones, PDAs, and web-based applications, the world of skinning has grown drasti
Polls are interesting things. Sometimes you ask what you think is a no-brainer, a question that could only have one reasonable outcome, but then you're surprised when it turns out to be the exact opposite. Last week's poll worked just like that. Last week I asked if users would like to see WinCustomize add a cell phone theme gallery to the offering. My expectation was that everyone would be up fo
Damn, it's going to be tough to pick a winner....
We're aware of Piclens. Winstar brought it to my attention early last week. Super-cool stuff. We'll have to look at it more closely to see if/how we can integrate it with WinCustomize.
Ok, this time change is wreaking havoc on my body. The alarm going off at what felt like 5am just wasn't the way to start the week. But my grogginess and lack of sleep won't get in the way of rounding up the best skins from the last weekend. So while I go for my 5th cup of coffee for the morning, you all can feast your eyes on some great skins... <A id=ctl00__ContentArea__SkinList_ctl37__List
