I think a lot of the problem has been everyone coming to this thinking they know what Stardock *needs* in terns of JoeUser, and assumptions as to what we're trying to get out of the site. The expectation that because they've blogged here for X days/months/years that they are owed something. Why do we keep the site open? Quality is good, but there are probably little bits you could do to reduce file size (and thus memory footprint): 1280x720 is the generally accepted "high def" resolution. Reducing your resolution a little bit will result in a much smaller file. You're still using a resolution large enough that very few people will have to stretch it much (if at all) to get it to fill their screen. MPEG compression. Stardock sites are based on a very complex and detailed articles system that has grown over the years. Basically, imagine one gigantic forum. Hundreds of categories and subcategories containing thousands upon thousands of posts. Each site (WinCustomize, JoeUser, TotalGaming) takes a subset of that master list for its own forums. We do not support Apple browsers on any of our sites yet. This is not likely to change in the near future. We're trying to spend our time and resources hitting the 90%+ portion of the market that uses IE/Firefox. Once we have those nailed, then we'll move on to the more popular alternative browsers such as Safari and Opera. Why? Because every single browser renders pages differently. Skinning is the focus here. We're always talking about individual skins or suites. A cool WB skin here, some great cursors there and so on. Rarely though do we talk about how great different skins look when they're mixed and matched in combinations even the authors never anticipated. Our Screenshots gallery exists just for that purpose though. Every now and then it pays to wander through the gallery to see what people are using and how cool it looks. H

Reporting errors with specific examples is very helpful. We have looked at and made lists of reported issues folks have brought up since launch. We take these reports and prioritize them based on how severely they impact the usability and stability of the site. Items that crash the server are the first priority, a bug that only occurs for one user on a very specific setup sits lower on the scale, and there's a lot in between. We do actually have plans for themes and alternative color sets. They're just in a later phase of the project. I think people aren't realizing that this is an ongoing process, we're not launching the site and then abandoning it for another 5 years like we did the first time.
