But I just played a small map by myself (pirates only). Just to get a feel for how it would play out. I basically wiated a couple of raids, realized they would pick off the same two planets, and was able to build tactical structures and park a capital ship on each planet. Then... I built up research, got that giant cannon thingy and tore them up lol. Very satisfying lol
3 or so turret

Diplomacy is the most recently updated expansion. Personally I don't really care for many of the diplomatic requirements with trying to gain treaties and stuff because AI behavior and "missions" can be annoying, so I play with Locked Teams, but you might prefer otherwise. I also recommend that you play with pirates off, especially if you play Diplomacy. Pirates can be crippling to new players and don't really add that much to the game.
If there are going to be graphics "improvements" I hope they'll either have a negligible effect on performance or have an option to turn them off. I already play with all effects off and it still isn't enough when I play in larger games :(
You probably shouldn't have static defenses on those worlds anyway if you're playing in a game with decent players, and even then static defenses are rarely effective... if you count on them and your Hoshikos alone to fight off a Vasari invasion via a Kostura, you'll probably find that you'll very quickly lose control of the planet. If you're playing against a player who has any idea of what they're doing, at least. :) I suggest you try playing a few mo

At least with the games that I've been seeing recently, it seems that they rarely take more than an hour, and it isn't even uncommon for a player or two to throw in the towel at 20-30 minutes with the rest of their team following suit. It can actually sometimes be annoyingly short for a player who thinks they're playing a good competitive game with their opponent(s). If one of the better players on one team minidumps or accidentally DCs or something that can end the game quickly a
I really don't think one should have to adjust their gameplay style to fit the needs of their computer. It'd be much better to set things up to make it a nonissue (eg. small maps) or to upgrade.

If he had gone all Assailants I would've responded with the same and the game would've been decided mostly by attrition and Orkuluses. Works but is a bit boring.
Still, it doesn't exactly seem fair to the loyal fans who've been in Sins since the beginning and have bought the original game and the expansions. We aren't getting all that much new content, although the upgrades and improvements which are said to be in Rebellion will certainly be appreciated. $40 for a new player buying a brand new Sins game sounds all right. $40 for someone who already has Trinity and who's getting some moderate improvements and a few new
OK I say tec for a few resons, 1: they have late game techs and econ to produce ships faster then anyone else.
Pervasive Economy and Industrial Juggernaut? While useful, they're quite expensive, and once the game is to that point, opposing Advent and Vasari players will probably be teched-up enough that they're able to wipe the floor with an equally skilled TEC opponent. The TEC strategy is basically to spam
I just realized something else I should've learned from this: Dwish had a great balance between economy and fleet. Near the beginning of the game, he had just enough Assailants to fight off my capital ship or starbase, were I to build one on one of his planets, and had the supply researched to be able to build more Assailants immediately. The rest of his funds he put into trade ports. "Cautious economizer" is probably *the* best general strategy for long games, or at least for the beginni
The thing is that it should be nearly impossible to destroy a Titan, especially if it has even a small supporting fleet. So while raiding forces could invade the gravity well of a stationary Novalith and kill it with Remote Explosives or bombers or Ogrovs, it would be much much harder to take out a Titan-based Novalith. That said, I really don't like the idea of putting a Novalith on a Titan. I don't like the Novalith period, actually.
I don't have an issue with the AI using superweapons. The issue I have, at least recently, is that the AI has researched superweapons 20 minutes into a game. Assuming all players are starting at the same level, this should be impossible, at least at the lower levels at which I play the game. How can a fair AI player have superweapons when I've barely built up enough resources and research to conquer 3 planets? Then
Titans are already supposed to have some sort of defense against bomber spam. We'll have to wait to see exactly what the specs are, but I would hold back from proposing anything until we actually see what a Titan is like.
Something I've noticed is that when there are 100+ bomber squadrons, their auto-attack causes the game to freeze for a second or two (or more, occasionally) when they retarget or are issued an order.
I played a very engaging 1v1 last night with Dwish on Wrathful and figured I would post the replay and my comments. We were both Vasari. I was light blue, he was orange. http://www.mediafire.com/?tb9p51ibua2cmaj What I noticed (good and bad, on both sides): Orange went up a supply level at very early in the game and didn't use any of it until 5 minutes later. I failed to move my colony frigate enough to evade on my far asteroid, and it die
If FPS is fine in the beginning and laggy later in the game, the problem is clearly with the amount of stuff the game is processing (ships, graphics, physics, etc) rather than with background services. Gamebooster helps by pausing background services.
