We checked this out today and it looks like ranked should be working again for Mac players.
On the easiest difficulty you shouldn't have any issue. It provides massive debuffs to the AI. You can also control the speed of the game in single player.
Unfortunately, the version of the engine running Ashes does not support Chinese characters. This is something we have updated in the engine for Star Control: Origins and a future sequel to Ashes will have Chinese support.
We have been dealing with some server issues after the Epic free game event. Can you confirm if this is still happening?

I believe you can still play that via LAN and using a virtual LAN with a friend. But really, if you want to play online I would recommend getting Rebellion. It comes with all of the content from the previous expansions too.
There was a time I'd install it day one but I am happy to wait and see what shakes loose.
