I notice mjukis, on the same ISP, has higher speeds than me. 100/100mbit connection could be throttled by the router, I suppose.

Too bad so many publishers choose to limit the availability of their titles to North America. I'm an avid user and buyer from Europe, so I won't be enjoying Spore, for example, on Impulse. On the other hand, it's only to be expected when the US prices are so much better than what we get here, that Impulse borders on being a real-world exploit if I could buy any game I wanted from Impulse. :)

I solved it by right-clicking the executable and choosing the never-before-used option "disable visual themes" from the compatibility tab. Once I entered the game I killed a single enemy before deciding that this was the worst space game I've tried yet. I always fall for these things because I still dream of Elite.

I'm getting some weird login issues with SDC today. Talked to Zubaz about it in chat. When I start up SDC, I get "Login failed" and if I request my licenses, it says it can't even find my e-mail adress. Just to let you know. I'll retry it a few times.

Draginol,
So you would end up having to crack every single thing on your system to bypass it.
And that's what people who run pirated operating systems do today. Don't underestimate the motivating power of "free stuff".

DRM isn't going to win, because piracy will drive gaming to the consoles before that happens. Besides, you're employing a false dichtomy when you're saying it's the people who "do stuff" against the people who "don't do stuff". Pirates are extremely well motivated to keep DOING what they're doing - i.e. getting free stuff without paying by circumventing all attempts at preventing them. There's a very simple reason why DRM cannot work and it's almost identical to Raph Koster's law of MMO game des

An example screenshot is included in the link attached to the first post. It's the skin attached to Opera and the task bar I'm interested in. / Per (In case you're wondering, The Trillian skin visible is Solarian for older versions of Trillian and the Winamp classic skin is "System Shock II".)

A fairly simple black on black skin with one-pixel thin green borders that I used years ago (think 2003). It's not searchable on WC nor can I find it by looking for "dark" or "black" skins. If anyone knows where to find it, or an identical skin, I'd be much obliged. As you can see, it's a fairly simple concept so I wouldn't be surprised if there are more just like it. No, I don't want a glassy-transparent-glossy-blobby-rounded skin instead, thank you very much. <img src="smiles/Smile.g

I disagree that destroying a people destroys their culture. One need only study Earth history to conclude that it is not that easy to "destroy culture". Heck, it's not even easy to actually destroy an actual people; they tend to live on among the new societies that arise, but their culture is usually stronger than the survivors themselves, because of the infectious nature of culture. Besides that, besides the wishful thinking and the "logical" and historical aspects, culture-

Bounty and pirates are a way to get to the strongest player whom you cannot reach by weapons power alone. That is exactly why pirates need to be very annoying to the strongest player, because nothing else can annoy that player.

The blue player here was stuck in an almost empty sector of space with a single planet and one asteroid. His only exits led to A. The Sun (pirates) B. My second world, fiercly defended C. The center of the two other players' territories. From the graph, I would say he eventually learned to stop trying to exand and just spend all his cash on bounties. Link: <a href=

New stuff: 5. List of selected units. I miss the Homeworld list of currently selected units. That allowed me to bandbox a large team of units and then sub-select out of those ones by clicking the simple text list. For Sins, I appreciate the use of consistent icons for units, but the empire tree is already quite branched, so I would like to see the contents of my current selection somewhere else. 6. Double-click event text. Sometimes the chat box lights up

An odd thing I experienced going from Beta 1 to Beta 2 was this: All through beta 1 I constantly tried to mouse-wheel-zoom into the position of the mouse cursor, like you do in Supreme Commander. Eventually I got used to the fact that Sins zooms in on the selected unit / planet / sun, and I played well like that. But then after playing Beta 2 for two hours, I suddenly got my wish - the game started zooming towards the mouse cursor when I rolled the mouse wheel, JUST like I ha
