Ah yes, I have tried typing 'word' and it does indeed give either Microsoft Office Word or WordPad as the first result after whichever one has been selected a couple of times consecutively. However, it does not seem to work when I type 'secure', as I gave in my example. I'm confused about this. I upgraded to to v1.11 just hours after it was released, but I was disappointed that this behaviour had no changed at all, as far as I could see. However, I didn't say anything as I thought that this change had been held back for a later update. So is Start8's search results supposed to prioritise depending on previous results now, like the Windows 7 Start Menu and the Windows 8 Start Screen? v1.11 seems to be working just the sam

People Metro App recently used flyout menu shows useless stuff in Start8 Stardock Forums

It would be nice if the People app flyout menu could somehow show recently viewed contacts, but at the moment it shows strange text which does seem to go to particular contacts. If it cannot show proper names, it would be better if the flyout menu was disabled for the people app. I'm using v1.1.

As far as I can see, this is clearly a disadvantage of Start8. Surely this at least deserves a response, let alone any consideration?

Erm, that doesn't prove anything, as there are no other uTorrent files, let alone any with a similar name, so there is nothing else to come up in the search results. If anything, it does actually prove my point, as the uTorrent program files folder now appears in the search results.

This is what happens with the Windows 8 Start Screen, which is what is desired. I have done some testing and it is evident that the Windows 8 Start Screen remembers what has been run before and sorts the results based on that , just like how I remember Windows 7's Start Menu does.

By doing that I'm sure lots of useless program files like .dll and .ini files, et al, would then appear in your start menu search results, so it's a bit of an extreme solution for a minor problem.

Could anybody confirm that the Windows 7 start menu behaviour that I described (from memory) does indeed occur? I don't have Windows 7 installed on any of my computers at the moment. Do the devs disagree with my suggestion?

When you see it under 'Files and folders', I think what you're seeing is actually the µTorrent installer, which you probably still have in Downloads. try selecting it. I'm sure you will see the installer start. This problem with µTorrent is a minor problem really, as it is not going to be a problem with any other program that I can think of. I love Start8 and the recent update has fixed a couple of problems I had with it, so now it is near perfect. It's even better than the Windows 7 Start Menu, especially with the ability to add custom file system locations. There is one thing that I think needs to be fixed though. Okay, thanks, that is a good workaround for this example, but I think it would be preferable for Start8 to replicate the Windows 7 Start Menu behaviour. I'm also curious to know how the Windows 7 Start Menu gets the alternative spelling from the shortcut, I tried adding a comment including 'uTorrent', but it didn't make any difference.

On the regular Windows 7 Start Menu, as far as I can remember, µTorrent come up in search when you type utorrent, even though it actually starts with a greek mu (µ). This also happens when using the Windows 8 Start Screen. Where in the shortcut does it get the alternative spelling from? Is there any way to make Start8 do the same thing without having to rename the shortcut?

I think I meant that it is not keyboard navigable. I'm not sure if my post here led you to add the very nice Win8 style theme or if you already had such an obvious planned, but I am very glad you did it. Hopefully you will also sort out the problems with keyboard navigation like I mentioned in this new post .

I was searching the forum to see if anybody else has this problem with Start8 and I found a guy who mentions it, along with All Programs not being keyboard navigable. I had not noticed that myself, but that is another shortcoming which would sadden me if I needed to look for a program that I could not remember the name of.

I may be wrong, but for some reason I have a memory of this not being a problem on early versions of Start8. To demonstrate this shortcoming/bug: I often want to open cmd.exe in elevated mode (I actually use TCC/LE, but cmd.exe is more well known) In Vista and Windows 7, I could pres Start, then start typing cmd, then simply press the Menu key to get the right-click context menu to select 'Run as administrator' of Shift-Menu to get 'Run as a different user&

Too slow in Start8 Stardock Forums

When I press on WinKey and then start typing the first few letters of the name of a program and then hit return, quite often the wrong program opens, or nothing happens at all. It basically not working fast enough. The Start Screen does not have this problem. Can I change the runtime priority in Task Manager to speed it up? Maybe the developers can make Start8 always cached in RAM?

+1 for these suggestions. I didn't know about that Ctrl-Shift-Enter trick. I've been using the right Menu key and then arrow keys to do the same, for years.
