On Windows, when dropping something with right mouse button, a context menu is shown asking you what you want to do with the drop operation So, I'd expect to be able to drop a folder on the desktop with right mouse button pressed (instead of left) and at the context menu shown to see option to make folder portal (guess that is set up in the registry [can use RegMon tool from Sysinternals/Microsoft to see what the shell queries in the registry when building that menu at drop]). When I have the Tiles bar set to autohide and select to show a handle to be able to open it again (I can't move the mouse to the edge to show it since I also have Fences that uses this as an area to drag and scroll to more desktops), that handle gets in the way of other UI (e.g. scrollbar UI's top arrow at other windows) it should be smaller I think and also allow you to drag it up and down to change location (changing bar from right to left doesn't help muc
in my case (with the Dell laptop), clicking the battery on the taskbar tray and selecting to use the "Dell" Power Plan, instead of the "High Performance" one seems to fix the issue. Probably need to compare in detail those plan settings to see in what exact setting(s) they differ
or those drivers are doing something very wrong...
I think its a bug in windows modern UI (maybe with WPF too or lower level in DirectX), shouldn't behave that way in the 1st place must be with offscreen compositing or something

I have same issue with not only Tiles, but other software on Win8 too, especially Metro (Modern UI) apps (using ModernMix, but was happening before). Has to do with combination of Intel HD Graphics with ATI graphics on a Dell laptop. They don't play well together and sometimes they work fine, others not. From what I've seen it may have to do with the setting you choose, which GPU your app is set to use (there's a GUI to select that).
1) when the fences config dialog is open, fences should remain visible (even if they're set to be hiding immediately). Else it is very hard to configure their appearance. Maybe they could hide only if the config is at the page related on hiding to see the respective setting, try double-click on desktop etc. At other config pages they should appear 2) would be nice to be able to confert a classic fence to a folder portal, by generating on the desktop a folder with the contents of t
