I prefer a taskbar at the top of the screen, and it's a pain not being able to autohide it. I wouldn't mind trying a vertical taskbar now I've got a widescreen monitor too. I'm really surprised at how tricky it seems to be to relocate the taskbar on the screen - as an ex-UI developer, I've coded position-independent display elements before. Any competent UI developer at Microsoft should easily be able to make a position-independent element like a taskbar - and if it needs to display a

The title says it all - I installed Start 11 v2 having received an email that it was available, rebooted and managed to get it to align 'Top' (after some faffing), but I get no sub-menus on pinned items to the left of the start menu, and 'access denied' on sub-menus for quick-access items on the right. I also get 'Widgets are unavailable' from the taskbar widget icon. I'm using the Windows 7 style start menu. I've tried installing both via the ObjectDesktop app and by downloading

I've been using Groupy 1 since at least April 2020, and recently received an email inviting me to update to Groupy 2 for a discount as an existing user. When I entered my email address for the upgrade, it told me I don't qualify. Why is that? My Object Desktop licence code allows me to install and use Groupy 1, so what's the problem?

The 'Recent Items' list is handy, but what I really want is a 'Recent Applications' list, showing the most recently used applications in time order. The 'Most used applications' list doesn't really do it for me. I couldn't see such an option - is there one? If not, can you put it on the requested features list?
These bugs are a causality of new code Microsoft implemented in their last update that broke the way the taskbar behaved when placed on the top of the screen. I am pretty sure the new code was put in to make way for Microsoft big update this year.
I expect you're right; as an ex-software developer (including Windows UI work), I find it extraordinary that Microsoft made such a fuss about a few simple UI changes, then implemented them s

Yes, it is set to auto-hide. But I don't see why that means it will hide its own drop-down thumbnail captions. That doesn't happen with Windows 10 - I have Start 11 v.1.11 running on a Windows 10 PC to compare. I'm also still getting the bug where the taskbar displays a little way down the screen, and instead of auto-hiding, the icons disappear. They reappear on mouseover: <img src="https://cdn.stardock.us/forums/49/19/4919679/e56d49d1-5a49-4fa7-86e8-31ce2ef4f31a.png" alt="" w

Start 11 v.1.11 running on Windows 11 on a Surface Pro 7 (display resolution 2736x1824, scale 200%, as recommended) I've positioned the taskbar at the top of the screen and had been getting it dropping down the screen by about half its (the taskbar) height. This hasn't yet happened with the Start 11 version 1.11, so hopefully, it's fixed,

I uninstalled Start 10, keeping the configuration settings, then installed Start 11. Start 11 is working OK, except when I right-click on the Start button I don't get the Start 11 config menu, but a minimal Windows start menu. How do I get to the Start 11 config settings?

As I said, I'm looking for a manual or guide with instructions and explanations, not a marketing trailer. Things like: Why Ti

Having used Fences for some while, I thought I'd try the new version of Tiles as a quicker and easier alternative to the Windows Task View and the Task Bar, but I find it unintuitive to the degree that I can't even get anything onto the 'My Tiles' tab - whenever I open the tiles bar and drag a window to it, it just closes. If try to I shift-drag a window to it, it just gets resized to one of three frames, left, right, or center. I'm not clear what the various tabs are supposed to do, or how I
I am sorry you are finding it confusing. Curtains does not have an 'exit' exactly, simply applying the Windows 10 style will revert things back to the default look and curtains will disable itself. With regards to wanting to go back to what you had before, is this a case of wanting to revert to the windows 10 look, change some colour settings you changed, or did you use the edit style feature built in?
Quoting davelorde, reply 6 I've got the beta option ticked, but I don't see Curtains in Object Desktop Manager (it's not hidden either). I had to download it via my account page. Log out of ODM, perhaps even unload it from the systray, re-open / log

Hmm, I tried out some settings, and now I'd like to go back to what I had before - is there an 'undo' or 'restore original' option, or do I have to set it up by hand again or restore from a backup ? E.T.A. Ah, I've found some 'reset to default' options that seem to do what I want... I have to say the Curtains UI is one of the most confusing I've ever used! Is there a way to exit Curtains? I don't see a taskbar icon...

I had two browser windows grouped with Groupy on my Windows 10 desktop PC. Then I started a Remote Desktop connection to my desktop PC from my MS Surface Pro 4 laptop. When I killed the Remote Desktop session and returned to my Windows 10 desktop PC, the Groupy tab bar had bloated to many times its proper size. I tried ungrouping and regrouping the browser windows and turning off Groupy and turning it on again, but the massive tab bar persisted. I sus

I feel your pain, Remus - I had a similar problem a while back with a different driver updater program; they're more trouble than they're worth. That made me get a full backup solution - Macrium Reflect to a local hard drive, and Backblaze Personal to the cloud. Worth every penny in peace of mind. With Reflect, you can restore the whole system or browse any backup to replace missing or corrupted files
