Thanks all! I got it figured out - all I had to do is set the installer to run in WinXP compatibility mode and run as Admin.
I've been a long time Cxp/Cfx user, and have just upgraded to Windows 8. I realize that Cfx isn't compatible with Win8 yet, but since I've become so attached to my customized cursors on WinXP, I was wondering if there is any way to export them into .ani format so that I can continue to use them until a Win8 version of Cfx is released. I wouldn't bother asking, since a developer should be able to rebuild from his own working files, but since I created my cursors (with
