Corky - the best way to ruin a new PC is by installing SP2 - you know that right? A new PC shouldn't be ruined by SP2. It would be third party software using programming hacks and shortcuts in their software. Some of these had to be blocked of in SP2 because they where liable to security issues.
What version of MSN and Windows do you have? Works fine for me on XP SP2, MSN 7 (worked fine with MSN 6.2 as well.)

(Isn't there a "don't play animations" setting on most browsers? You can rightclick on flash animations and untick the "Play" menu entry. This should stop it. It's a bit tedious for when you face sites bloated with flash adverts. But to fight such you can use the AdBlock extension https://addons.mozilla.org/
So the program starts up and runs. It's certain functions that doesn't work? Have you tried running it in Compatibility mode? If you rightclick on the program's Exe (or shortcut) file, choose properties, there should be a tab labeled "Compatibility", Try setting it to a previous Windows version.

threads on the boards show "0" for a thread count but when you open them up....there are ALOT of threads... I've seen thread where the comment count doesn't match at all. it claims to have a couple of comments, but none appear.

When I first got my hands on a computer connected to the internet (after two minutes of the modem going beeep duuurh eeerph beeep duur etc. etc. each time) and started signing up on websites I used DrBrain as my nick. Can't remember any more why I choose that nick. Later on however I felt the urge for a change.
