Noob questions in Sins of a Solar Empire Sins Forums

Hi folks - I picked up Trinity at the last steam sale as part of my ongoing effort to find a replacement for my beloved MoO2. I'm only doing single player. I'm a couple of games in and have naturally accumulated some questions. Any help is appreciated! - Are the pirates supposed to be the most powerful faction in the game?
