VBS scripts present something of a problem as modern Anti-Virus software alerts the user every time a script tries to run. Otherwise they would be ideal. Anyway, documentation aside, the skin is now complete. There's no custom colour support at the moment, but I'm planning on releasing a few colour variations anyway. There are also sub-designs for Windows 98, allowing for the lack of per-pixel alpha blending on those systems. See you tomorrow! <img src="http://images.stardock.c

Sorry to disappoint you Styl skinner, but the start menu isn't actually transparent on my theme. It might have looked that way because of the wallpaper I was using in the screen shot, but apart from rounded corners it's actually solid. On possible way of creating a start menu with varying levels of transparency would be to use a dithered pattern of magic pink in the image. It won't look as smooth as a TGA file could, if they were supported in that part of a skin, but done carefully and

I've already tried what you suggest Hus, and it doesn't seem to work with WindowBlinds command buttons. As for reading registry values, I'm not really sure what you mean. I intended the installer to look at the registry to find the paths and put them into the 'wbuser.ini' file, but I wasn't aware that you could just call on a registry value on the fly.

Things are still on track for a release tomorrow, and I've taken some of the comments I've received into consideration. I've tuned up the design quite a lot today, and sorted out all the sub-designs too. Due to the problems with not being allowed to upload an installer to the site, this skin may not be the easiest to configure for the novice user. How confident do people here feel about creating/editing a 'wbuser.ini' file with paths to common applications? I'll try to include detailed

I can understand your reservations about executables paxx, but I can see two potential solutions to the problem whereby uploading them wouldn't be an issue for the site. Option one would be to run everything that gets uploaded through anti-virus software. As a large file download site this should really be something that happens already. Option two would be to add a checkbox to the upload page which the user needs to click to certify that their upload is virus-free. This would

Maybe I didn't quite explain myself properly Jafo. Although the installer looks at the setup of the user's system to determine paths to things like WindowBlinds and Notepad and so on, it doesn't actually alter any of those settings on the system itself. The installer uses those settings to create or modify the user's 'wbuser.ini' file in the WindowBlinds directory, so that application launcher buttons on the skin correctly launch the right application. Obviously the user could create their own '

I've explained why I need to use an installer in another thread, but it amounts to making the installation and use of the skin as smooth as process as possible for the user. It uses a lot of hardcoded paths which need to be modified depending on the user's system configuration, and also includes a 'manual' which I would like made available from a program group on the start menu. Most manuals included with skins are never even seen because the average user doesn't know where to look for it.

Well this presents an interesting problem. I'm due to release a new WindowBlinds skin tomorrow which needs to be installed using an executable installer. Does this mean I can't upload the skin now?

DavidMandle>> The off-white of the menu background is intentional so that there's a slight highlight along the top edge. I'm going to try lightening a few parts of the skin today, so I'll see if it makes sense to do the same to the menus. I tend to think that too much pure white in an interface can cause eye strain, and I'm really aiming for this to be a long-term useable OS skin. Hus>> I take it you're talking about the background images in the main explorer windows which are currently

By the way, at this point in time every part of Windows is skinned that I'm aware of WindowBlinds supporting. The parts not supported by SkinStudio were something of a mind-bender.

Well things are progressing nicely. I just have a few small bugs to fix, and some general tidying up, and then hopefully I'll be releasing 'dinksDX' by Saturday night at the latest. This has all been quite a learning experience, and a major headache in some instances, as this is the first time I've done most of this stuff. A rogue spelling mistake didn't help much either. Here's a look at the latest

All this time I've been lying to myself. It turns out that I'm not a professional graphic designer after all, and these past few years have been spent blindly pressing buttons on a computer and somehow producing work. Thanks for opening my eyes Zodiaq. I also apologise for my sarcasm, and agree with you wholeheartedly that your button was ripped. Dark Mist was so clever that he realised that he could cover his evil deed by modifying every single pixel in the final image so that it bore

It should say something to you that not one person who has examined this case agrees that you have been ripped Zodiaq. Will you at least accept that there is a possibility you're wrong about this?
