I'm a little unclear on what that second image is by the way. Is it the logo for the site, or just an incidental graphic that you'd like to incorporate. If it's the logo, then your approach to the interface (which is very nice as an interface goes) should have been from more of a 'cartoonish' perspective.

I think the best approach would be to take away all of the colour from the second image, and make it quite a faint monochrome overlay in the corner of the 'screen' of your interface. Perhaps add some scanlines to the screen too to mask the contrast between the two graphic styles. Just so long as the second image is reduced in contrast and recreated in shades of the same hue used for the interface, I don't think it would look out of place.
Something to bear in mind Aqua is that even though it's your opinion that certain premium skins/themes/whatever aren't worth the asking price, it doesn't necessarily mean that you're in the majority. For all you know, there could be a sufficiently high percentage of buyers that lowering the price would reduce profits. I've been unemployed on an almost-permenant ba sis for well over a year and a half now, so I'm well aware of what it's like to have limited finances. I wouldn't ever think
It seems that the JavaScript for the emoticon 'buttons' to the right of the message composition text area no longer works. If you manually enter the characters that make up the emoticon, it works fine.
I'm hoping to get a custom colour version in there this time, so the green isn't really an issue. The only problem I see with including all 6 metals is the sheer volume of sub-designs this will create. For the novice user it might be a little daunting! I have to agree that the copper came out really nice. My least favourites are the bronze and the titanium, as I don't think they stand out significantly. The titanium idea was really an effort to create a version with lower contras
I must be mad...
I'm currently toying with doing the dinksDX treatment on metalX, only to a slightly larger extent. With plans as they currently stand, taking into account the number of sub-designs included with dinksDX, metalX2 could very well end up having 60 (!) sub-designs. That may sound a lot, but if I do seperate XP and 98 versions they would have 30 sub-designs apiece. Here's a glimpse. http://grayhaze.com/images/metalX2_inprogress.jpg Which do you like? They are (in order from top to b
I actually had a skin in the works called 'Clownfish' a long time before the movie was ever talked about to the public. I was never really happy with the way it was turning out though, so it only exists as a bunch of buttons and a titlebar. I doubt I'll ever finish it as orange skins just never seem to work out for me.
That's 'Maya' Brad. If only I knew 3D packages... and lived in America.
I'd put GUI Designer if the job I was going for was graphic design related. I don't think that title implies that you do anything to do with shell replacement, as it's just a design title. If you said GUI Developer, then that would be something entirely different. Just throw in a few words about useability, user interfaces and attention to detail, and it's quite a good thing to have on a resume for a graphic professional. Just as an aside, I went for a web design job a couple o
I've been considering putting a PayPal 'donate' button on my site for a while now, in the hopes of getting a little money back for the skinning work I've done in the past. However, I think I'm far less likely to get any money that way than I would be to release a premium suite to sell. I don't see the premium suites going away any time soon, but rather increasing in number. Just so long as the balance is struck between free and paid-for skins, I think things will continue to work just f
I do understand what you're saying Stephen, but I also think it's a somewhat weak argument. Just because Object Desktop is an all-in-one purchase, doesn't mean that the skins and themes for the contained applications should also be included. The majority of these skins are created by non-Stardock people who give up their free time to give something for free to the general public out of the kindness of their hearts. Those skinners who then release the occassional paid-for skin c
It's a shame that charging for skins is seen by the casual visitor as a rip-off or unreasonable thing. From past experience, creating a full WindowBlinds skin takes a lot more time and effort than creating a web site design, and in my freelance days I charged £40 an hour for that work. Is a one-off fee of $10 (around £6) really that much to ask for when skinners are devoting the majority of their free time to creating freebies for a public who can be at best complimenting, and at worse downright
The hybrid of metalX and 8-ball I had on my system until I started work on dinksDX.
Actually kona, they both were. Play nice people.
Congrats.
Can anyone speak the language here? I'd like a warning sent to them asap. What is wrong with these people? Have they no respect for others?
Woodbridge is right to some extent BTW. You can make the grey version of the skin yourself by turning on custom colour support in the WindowBlinds configuration, checking the 'force' option, and setting the blending level to 0%. There are a couple of images that don't get recoloured using this approach, but for the non-media designs it works well.
Some of the choices here really surprise me. When the original dinks came out, I made three versions - red, green and blue. Out of those three, the red was the least downloaded, despite it being my favourite one. Red is now on the definate list.
The colour in the top left is the original by the way, just for comparison.
In preperation for creating several colour variations of my dinksDX skin, I'd like to get some opinions on the colours some of you would like to see. I'm avoiding a custom colour version, as my attempts at creating one have turned out less than satisfactory. I'm therefore concentrating on creating a handful of fully detailed re-coloured versions. The original skin can be viewed here: https://www.wincustomize.com/skins.asp?library=1&SkinID=3331 An image showing some pos
How do you come up with a name for your skin? Do you put much thought into it, or just use the first name that pops into your head? As an example, the original 'dinks' skin was named after a close friend of mine who I fell for in a big way around the time of the skin's creation. 'dinks' was the shortened version of her online name, and at that time we used to spend hours talking online, sometimes into the early hours of the morning and beyond. She's no longer a part of my life now, and
It's a scientifically proven fact that computer interfaces using a blue and gray color scheme are the most comfortable to use for the majority of users. Despite this, whenever a blue/gray skin is created you always get a few comments about how bad the colors are to use. What colour scheme are you most comfortable with on your desktop on a day-to-day basis, and why?
