The response: Manuel, I can understand why you have those skins available to download, and that the page you directed me to is only accessible to a small number of people, but the fact remains that they shouldn't have been put there in the first place without prior permission. Regardless of whether you are making the skins available to 8 or 800 p

Maybe I'm getting soft in my old age, but I do actually believe him this time. It still doesn't make it any more acceptable, whether he's making those skins available to 8 or 800 people, but I can kind of see where he's coming from. I'll post my response in a minute.
His latest response: Kevin, I am awfully sorry. I think that there might be a misunderstanding. Please note that this is a very private beta. The page you visited has no external links, and the only way to get there is obtaining the URL from me. The beta testers are a very limited group of long time users of previous versions of my
Don't talk to me about Harry Potter. I work in a bookstore, and we had 2000 copies arive just this morning. They do make wonderful bricks though. I could tell you who dies kona, but then I'd have to kill you...
My response: Manuel, I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised to receive your e-mail as you seemed to be going about things the right way. However, upon taking a look at your site I was somewhat shocked to see that you are already making a 'port' of one of my skins available for download in the 'skins.zip' package on the beta page without first recei
Today I received the following e-mail: I am the author of a shareware program which can be skinned. It is a program launcher for the windows platform. It is currently in advanced beta testing. I have seen some of your skins for window blinds and I like them very much, so would like to port them to the format used by the skin engine I am usi
I understand that those are the guidelines set by the admins here at the site paxx, but what do any of those 'OK' comments actually contribute toward the site or to the skin author? Some authors may like to have pages and pages of comments of that type, either positive or negative, under their skins, but what actual purpose do they serve? One potential way to fix the whole problem would be to give a skin author the power to delete any comments from a particular skin that they don't feel
Did you get that from BabelFish Jafo?
Chef Garry >> My apologies for that comment, as it wasn't really worded in the way I intended it. I was referring to the users who leave the unkind comments, not users in general.
That's all I'm asking for feline, a little constructive criticism. I like getting that sort of feedback, as if enough people feel the same way about an aspect of my work I'll make a real effort to change it. I never said that people shouldn't be able to say they don't like something. I'd find the site a pretty dull place if all I got on my skins were comments saying 'fantastic' or 'well done'. I like to be able to improve my skills, and in many ways I find skinning a good medium to do t
I'm getting deja vu...
I want to swap the positions of the minimize and maximize buttons on my windows. Something about it just bugs me. I've always felt this way, ever since I started out with Windows. The emergence of the color-coded OSX just sealed things for me. Look at the colors of the three buttons - amber, green, red. It's wrong. Just plain wrong. I get confused at traffic lights now. I've played with it a little and I actually think it makes Windows more intuitive to have the buttons in the

I agree that users should be allowed to make comments along the lines of 'I don't like this, it could be better', even though those comments aren't of any real use to anyone. The distinction I've made a couple of times already is between those comments and the kind that you'd say to the plumber who's just torn out all of the pipes in your bathroom and then holds his hand out for payment. I think the users have things the wrong way round. They somehow feel that us skinners owe them somet
I think if Apple intended it to be pronounced 'OS 10' then they would have marketed it as such. The shift over to the roman numeral is mainly down to the fact that the letter 'X' is perceived to make something sound futuristic. I've heard Steve Jobs refer to it as 'OSX' before, and as long as I have worked in a book store with constant contact with the main publisher handling OS X books the reps have also always called it 'OSX'. I think it's only really Mac users who call it 'OS 10', and that's
I think feline hit the nail on the head when she talked about payment. The majority of work that is uploaded here is made freely available and the only payment we get for our hard work is to see that our work is appreciated. I don't consider that in any way egotistical. Although a particular upload might not be considered to be their best work by the author, they will usually feel that what they have produced is of a high standard, otherwise they wouldn't upload it in the first place. The key to skinning is knowing the limitations and working around them. There's very little I've wanted to do with WindowBlinds that I haven't eventually found a way to do. Perhaps your expectations are just a little too high?
As for those people who think it's right for someone to comment that a skin 'sucks', you obviously hold little pride in the work you do. When producing a skin over several weeks solid hard work which is then made available to download for free, it shouldn't be out of the question to expect a little respect. I don't mind if people don't like the final result, but it would be nice if they could at least acknowledge the hard work that went into it. As creatives, we naturally hold a highten
#11 by Admin KarmaGirl - 6/17/2003 6:46:19 PM grayhaze, why can't you just believe that you are not god's gift to skinning? Geez...what an ego! KarmaGirl runs quickly away so that she doesn't get smacked with a dead trout by grayhaze...yes, and I was joking in case anyone didn't understand.. Don't make me hurt you... <img src="http://images.s
I don't think very many of you actually understood the point I was making in my initial post. I wasn't upset about getting a bad comment, as I've had plenty of these in the past, but more about a small trend of e-mails that I've received recently where someone insults my work and then demands technical support. It's more a case of disliking bad manners than it is about whatever ego I may or may not have. Anyway, as I've already mentioned, this particular e-mail was apparently due to a b
Well it looks like you could be right after all goodmorphing. I got a reply, and it seems that they thought the word 'awful' was the same as 'awesome'! I really hope whoever taught English to this person doesn't teach a future diplomat for his country... Thanks for the kind comments about the skin also.
Today I received the following e-mail from someone who shall remain nameless: "Im using your dinksdx-blue skin for windwowsblinds and i think it is really awful . i love the tab with the controlls for winamp. the buttons for next song etc are working, but it doesn't display the title of the song which is playing. did i overread something i have to do to activate them?" I answered his question regardless of his bad manners, but I'm amazed that people like this are out
Are you creating a skin or trying to use one you've downloaded?
I a good way recreate the mascot in a way which would fit in with your interface would be to redo him as something that looks a little robotic, and perhaps redered in 3D if you have the skills. I don't think I've actually seen a robot voodoo doll before. I do think a 3D render would be the most logical direction to go in if you're trying to get away from the cartoon feeling and more in the style of
