I thought XP needed a minimum of 256Mb, but I could be wrong. Might be worth checking it out with them and pushing your luck to get another 128Mb thrown in for free.

I only tend to use my own skins, especially as I've usually got one mid-development all the time. I certainly spend a huge amount of time tweaking my own skins before I set them free into the wild. There's nothing wrong with tweaking your skins to your personal tastes (so long as they remain on your own machine), but often giving opinions on potential changes an author could make will get anything missing added at some point. It doesn't hurt to ask. <img src="http://images.stardock.com/

The term 'witch hunt' implies that there are no true guilty parties and it's all just paranoia leading to unfair treatment of individuals. If things like this help to spread the word about the protection of artists' legal rights then on the whole I think it's all worthwhile. There are bound to be a few cases of mistaken identity, but in cases as clear-cut as this one I don't think anyone can honestly say that the offending designer doesn't deserve some form of punishment, be that a slap on the w

I know it sounds a bit condescending to say it DaWebMassa, but you can't really judge until you've had one of your own designs ripped. This whole 'flattery' nonsense fades very quickly when you've spent months on a design only to find someone else stealing it in an afternoon and making a profit from it without even a nod in your direction. As for the talk of lawyers and litigation, it's a natural step to take when there are those who take advantage of the talent of others for their own

An ancient Gateway 17", from when 17" monitors were only just starting to appear. It's blurry and the black level controls don't work anymore, hence a certain skin of mine coming out looking like it had been 'bleached' without my realising. I've since installed PowerStrip and managed to get a half decent gamma fix, despite losing about half of my colour range in the process, so everything's coming out with contrast for once. <img src="http://images.stardock.com/images/smiles/joke.gif" border=0 A

I am just trying to understand where the line is between stealing and not stealing when it comes to drawing up a similar image from scratch. The line comes when the 'similar' image is a direct attempt to make a close or exact duplicate of another person's work. When something is done 'in the style of' something else, as with the OSX icons, a clai

The problem with sending out replies to the senders of e-mails with attachments is that modern viruses give the e-mail a fake sender address in the header which is taken at random from the address book of the infected machine. If you send an e-mail to this address chances are you'll only be met with confusion and upset a few people in the process when you accuse them of having a virus. The best defense is to keep an up-to-date virus checker on your machine and be careful about opening a

This is actually getting quite serious now. I had 11 instances of the virus e-mail when I last picked up my mail. As I'm on a 56k connection this is starting to cause a serious problem. What surprises me most is that this virus seems to have gone completely unnoticed with the general public, but could potentially cause a big bottleneck for the internet if it doesn't get fixed soon. It's spam on steroids!

You're contradicting yourself again kona. You criticize Windows PCs and boast fabricated 'facts' about how much faster and more stable a Mac is, and then get upset when someone says you're pro-Mac. It doesn't matter that you use an XP PC, the fact is that you're promoting Macs, for whatever reason, with your comments and comparisons. Nobody's going to criticize you for liking Macs, as I'm sure a large proportion of people here feel the same, but you will create upset by bashing PCs withou

I keep getting e-mails from all over the place with the subjects 'Re: Movie' and 'Re: Application' and the attachment 'your_details.zip'. Luckily my Norton virus definitions are up to date so each one gets picked up before it can cause any harm, and then SpamNet throws it into my Deleted Items before I can even take a look by accident. Can everyone with my [email protected] address in their address book please make sure they run a virus scan to disinfect their system. I've received a co
