I have to admit that I considered doing that with a skin Messy Buu, especially as my skins tend to contain a lot of sub-skins. It's something to consider, but you would then end up with a site full of crippled skins.

Well if you have dinksDX Blue, just check out the documentation at http://grayhaze.com/docs/dinksDX.htm for all the info you need.
Are you using the new dinksDX ( https://www.wincustomize.com/skins.asp?library=1&SkinID=3331 ) or the original dinks ( https://www.wincustomize.com/skins.asp?library=1&SkinID=2074 ) Stumpy?
Can I just say, I can imagine the 'all skins should be free' crowd having heart attacks at this very moment.
What you've said makes a lot of sense Brad, and I consider you to be one of the more knowledgable people on the subject, as you've overseen the emergence of commercial skins. In my last post in my 'donations thread' I mentioned the fact that even if I were to create both commercial and free skins, I simply wouldn't be able to spend less time on the free skins than I would on the commercial ones. I wouldn't be able to 'lower my standards' to knock out a rapid succession of basic low-feat
Stumpy >> If you're not aware that one of the skins you listed is one of mine, then there's no hope... Mr XX >> As I've already made very clear, this thread wasn't intended as a poorly-disguised 'begging letter'. I just wanted to share my experience with other skinners who might consider doing the same thing, and to get some opinions from people on why someone is more inclined to pay for a skin when
Hello from the secret recesses of the Batcave.
I'm well aware that certain parts of the world are suffering economically at the moment, but on the whole I'd say it's a pretty weak excuse. How many movies do you rent in a month? How many beers do you drink? If you can honestly say that you have no money for any leisure activities whatsoever, then I'll accept your reasoning. I said I wouldn't comment again. /me staples his lips togethe
I would imagine that it refers to the problem of a misaligned username in the XP Start menu when logged onto a machine on a domain. Those users don't have a user icon, and so the username text shifts to the left. This looks wrong on many skins, so some authors have perhaps created a seperate version for those individuals which contains different content margins.
Just keep looking kona. You'll understand eventually. It's not one of those tricks where nothing happens and you feel like a fool for waiting either.
Anyway, this venting is really only counter-productive. It's clear that donations don't work, and that was really my only initial message. I won't keep repeating myself, so I'll try not to comment in this thread anymore. To the one person who did see fit to embrace the donation principle, I'd like to thank you again. You know who you are, and should I get no other donations, I'll more than likely be sending the money back your way.
Let me just get one thing straight. I don't see the donations principle as a source of income. If I really thought I could live off the money from donations on a couple of skins, then I'd only be deluding myself. The whole idea is that skinning for someone in my position isn't a self-sustaining hobby. It costs a great deal of time and money, and that money has to come from somewhere. The way I see it there are four choices: 1. Sell skins to the seeming minority who agree with t
I'm aware that many people have a problem with PayPal, but from past experience I've always found them to be reliable. Short of paying for credit card processing myself, there's no easy solution other than PayPal though.
If I were to spend that amount of money on an individual freelance design job, the price tag would be quite obscene. Obviously I meant 'spend that amount of time '...
While I understand your situation White_Moth, and sympathize, I really don't see how it has any relevance to this topic. As paxx already said, for your comparison to work you would have to be unemployed and farming for a hobby which you hoped to gain a little money from, if only to support that hobby. You may not have broken even in your business, but you are still selling your product. As an ex-designer, I am all too aware of the cost of man-hours in work very close to that of skinning
I just want to repeat that I never expected to receive a lot of money. I expected maybe 1% or lower to find the time to donate, but I never expected 0%. There was an experiment conducted recently where an advertisment was placed in a national newspaper asking people to send £10, for which they would receive absolutely nothing. You would think that nobody would be so stupid as to pay for nothing, but they were shocked by the results. The actual amount of money they received over a one we
So by your reasoning DaWebMassa, the more I inconvenience the users of my skin, the more likely they are to offer money? If I make them go through the whole process of purchasing the skin through a commercial vendor, I'm likely to get more people doing so than if I give a simple PayPal link? I understand what you're saying about the ratio of comments to downloads, but the fact remains that whenever a thread pops up about buying skins there are a large number of people who claim to do so
I would just like to add a thank you to all those people who give me compliments and contructive criticism on my skins. I don't want you to think for one minute that I don't appreciate the feedback I get. As I've said before, there's a big reward in the knowledge that there are people out there using my skins and enjoying them. Thank you.
Upon release of my metalX2 and dinksDX skins, I decided to try a little experiment to see just how willing the general user would be to voluntarily pay a small amount of money in appreciation of the work that went into the skin, and to support future development. Despite clocking up over 25,000 downloads so far on those skins, I haven't received a single donation. I can't say I'm too surprised because I never believed for one moment that I'd make any real money out of it, but I never f
I had no idea. All the best Karma, and I'll be sending you my happy thoughts.
_Blade301_ >> Read the manual again. Particularly the FAQ section.
I don't think I even saw what they said! I've been at work all day, so I obviously missed some fun. Care to enlighten me Paul?
Aside from the information included in the manual, there's not much more help that can be offered. There are a couple of things to bear in mind though. 1. If WinAmp isn't already running in the background, the first click on any of the media buttons will simply launch the application. You then need to click the button again to perform its function. 2. Try another skin with WBAmp buttons. If that one doesn't work either, it's probably something to do with your WinAmp installatio
