Actually, no, the military resource starbase (if upgraded) is a HUGELY more valuable target than an individual dreadnaught. Take 1 Dreadnaught from 130 HPs to 0, or take 30 Dreadnaughts from 130 HPs to 90. Ships produced on a world with a Shipyard, Ship Foundary [sic], AQC, and OQC combined with a mid tech level tricked out Mil Starbase are obscene. I've got my Mil Starbases guarded with Rangers.

Heh theres nothing better than 3 maxed out Mil Starbases. My dreadnaughts currently have twice the attack value and 3 times the HPs of my enemies dreadnaughts... I don't mind the huge disparity actually. Its fairly realistic that some powers just lack the ability to build effective weaponry. When that's you...ouch.

That's whats great about this game. Twisti says "Get Stellar Cartography Fast". I'm on my 8th game and I've never had Stellar Cartography at all. Scouts can find the good planets as fast as you can crank out colony ships so I've never really found the need. Many different ways to the same end. The first key until you master the game, is not to start unless you have a strong starting position. Keep using Cntl-N to regen the map until you get a home planet with at least a 19 (prefera

Yup, I had some confusion figuring out how to register and what buttons took me where I needed to be but since then no problem. Click the desktop link, the window opens...check the date next to GalCiv, if its recent click update, read the history while the flood bar fills, close SDC, load the game, start playing. Every single update (except the windowed version) since the first day it was available...0 problems. Never longer than a minute to download...even the multimedia pack

Actually Pop Up, NO ONE was beating on the Yor...they were in a corner completely surrounded by me (who they had close relations with). Other races kept declaring war on them, so I didn't ally with them because I didn't want to be dragged in. At the end, every other race had declared war on the Yor at the same time...but NONE of them were attacking, because no one was in range. The Arceans were the last race to throw there hat into the "we hate the Yor" ring. Just a handful of turns later th

What bothers me about the UP is the vote choices are non stacking. Take for instance a vote to tax war (making up these numbers) A 2% B 3% C 4% D none. Now lets say A, B and C each get 10 votes and D gets 15. The Resolution would fail...no tax on war. yet 30 votes were in favor of a tax...its only the amount of the tax they didn't agree on. You can be assured that if 2:1 voters favored the tax, the tax would get passed, it would just take extr

I would definitely say that any deal that involved payment over time SHOULD most definitely be canceled as soon as the deal is broken. If the Altarians pay me 300 a month for 20 months to be at war with the Torians, and 2 months later I make peace with the Torians...then the payments should stop...period. If I conquer the Torians in 10 months...the payments should stop...period (why would they continue to pay for something that is now moot)

Ships don't tranfer, even if they did have some. In my last game I managed to trap the Yor with only 2 planets worth colonizing, yet somehow they managed to get starbases on two nearby resources quicker than me. I managed to buy 1 of them from them (for a ton of tech...but they were Warm to me, and puny, and the resource was a military one which I needed to fend of the more successful AIs), but they wouldn't sell the other, no matter what I offered (even planets...it was an Econ resource, and

you probably also sent too many colonists. 50-100 at most. With that on a 15-16 PQ world for 430BC you can purchase an entertainment network that will take the colony to 40-60 Morale depending on taxes

Theres a big boost for government from Republic to Democracy (like from 800 in taxes to 900 in taxes immediately upon making the switch) but I noticed a much lesser boost to Federation. I *THINK* the Federation level actually boosts production rather than economy. At least I did not notice a commensurate increase in Econ when I upgraded to that.

Interesting. I found specialization to be too much micromanagement (sometimes I really love that...I played month long Moo2 fests and SE IV, but recently I've had less time for it). I've bought everything on every planet, until there ain't nothing left to buy. I've found the big keys are building Research boosters, Econ Boosters, and Morale Boosters (in that order). But in order to build these things fast enough to give me an advantage I start with the production boosters. D

it already does that I believe Frank. What Mythor is pointing out is that you never let the game actually end, because each time you save and reload, you push the end back a couple months giving you a chance to earn more points. I found this out accidentally when the game crashed trying to submit my cultural victory and when I went back in I wound up with a military victory and 60 more points (130 to 190)

non-starter? Nope. Lets see definition of Tactical Combat in a game like this is: 1: way to turn 10 hours of game play into 50 hours of game play for no good purpose. 2: way to get another edge on the computer AI because no computer AI plays tactical combat effectively (witness Age of Wonders, MOO 1 & 2, etc. 3: waste of code since 9 out of 10 battles are preordained (because usually the attacker doesn't attack unless he already knows he's going to win). Meaning the

Reach for the Stars 2000 was indeed a collasal disappointment. But the original...Outstanding. On the early Mac at least. In those days PCs didn't have mice and the PC version was a huge annoyance to navigate...but the game...still one of the best. That and Spaceward Ho.

...I'm just puzzled by how a game could last 2 days played on Fool level... I don't want to sound insulting, but are you sure you understand the interface? After 2 days of play on Fool Level you should be cranking out shit that would blast the Dreng to pieces. Like Kavok suggested, are you certain you're not missing some key piece of the strategy of the game...?

You get several messages about the cult looking for the orb prior to the Dreadlords coming. If you have sufficient espionage out there you will get a message describing how your agents stopped the cult before they succeeded. I don't know if it matters who you espionaged against. When I discovered this the only race I was spying on just coincidentally happened to be the race whose planet became the Dread Lord capital. So I don't know if that is a requirement or if anyone would have do

You're going to have to provide more details than that emperor. Many people here have won several games and against much higher difficulty. I won the third game I played...all on normal difficulty and am currently winning (for now) one on Challenging. What seems to be giving you problems?
