What got fixed was the Cultural Victory Timer as I recall. It used to be that if you get to the point where you have 12 turns to win and it counts down to three, but then you reload, the screwy reloading issue would take your down below what you needed...then when it reset in a couple of turns, the counter would start over. Now you still have the screwy reloading issue, but when you start over it remembers where you were and continues the countdown.

In my last game my Approval rating never dropped below 70%, I had my tax rate between 76-86% and I ended the game with 91% approval. Of course I also had 3 Completely tricked out Morale Resouces by the end of the game. The real problem is that population increases JUST TOO DAMN FAST. I realize that part of the fun of a 4X game is the expansion and growth...but my god...the game lasts 30 YEARS...thats a single generation. I don't care how much Aphrodisiac these people are snor

Stupid question, but did you make sure that the play from playlist box was not checked? I know that sounds obvious, but when my music stopped working and I couldn't figure out why, that's what it was. Somehow that box got selected to play from the playlist...which there wasn't one...so it just didn't play.

I don't think its that easy. ALOT of games have this same type of issue. Both Europa Universalis II and Medieval Total War had numbers that didn't update properly for a few turns when reopening a file. In EUII it was monthly budget numbers. I suspect that unless lazy game designers ran rampant over 3 of my all time favorite games, that there is more to it than simply saving a variable in a save game file.

No resources also comes up if your spending slider is way down regardless of debt. You start with a given amount of cash, your spending slider cuts that down a big chunk. Then your Military and Social Slider cuts that down another big chunk respectively. Then whats left gets divided among all your planets, some of which will have bonus production that increases how much they get. So if you're trying to divide too small an amount of BCs among too many planets, the ones with no

Ok, so you have these cool ground invasion options to choose from. Does anyone use them? I used 1 once (the convert the population one) because I was on an easier level with a horde of cash I couldn't spend fast enough. I've found the options to be WAY to expensive for what they do. I mean I can see accumulating 5000BC to afford the final Terror Star upgrade...but I'm not going to accumulate 3000BC just to help bombard a planet. ESPECIALLY not if I have a big soldiering bonus...whic

I understand you wanting to go back to fight the Drengin to keep them from getting too powerful after they got that event...good thinking. But...next time see if you can get someone else to do your dirty work for you. If you've been pounding into tech you probably have some good stuff to trade. Head on over to whichever 2 of the other AI are also near the Drengin and give them a little something to attack the Drengin with. That will keep them busy while you finish dealing wit

Nope Robl you're spot on as far as I know. A 20 production planet lets you spend $20 on production. With a 50% bonus you have a 30 production planet that lets you spend $30 on production. However, if you're only actually spending $15 on production any way (due to lowering your Social Slider frex)you're not going to see any difference in time to complete. This is why your total expenditures will change even if your tax rate and spending rate stay the same. If

I have several starbases just like that in my empire right now. Step 1, max out the mineing. Step 2, if the starbase is in a sector near enemy space (because there seems to be some boost to a sector's influence based on adjacent sectors), then max out the Culture. Step 3, if trade ships pass through, bump up the trading posts (earlier if cash strapped). Step 4 depends on relative military strength. I always garrison resource starbases, and if my ships are superior, two ships by themselves a

Popup, that's pretty much the way I play too. Chrot, yeah, if you're Good the Altarians will be your buddy...and a particularly effective one. Me I'm an opportunist. If given a choice where being good only costs me 51 BC and being bad only nets me a +3 production bonus...hey I'm good all the way. But if being good costs me 800 BC and being bad gets me a +35% Production boost...well...Send 'em to the mines boys! Meaning my score tends to range between 30 and 60. Below 40

Sometimes the AI is agreeable...sometimes the AI isn't. Sometimes they'll sell me a starbase for a song. Sometimes they won't sell me a frieghter for all the tea in China. Sometimes they refuse to give me a key tech even after I offer them 5 good one. Sometimes they come to me an offer me the key tech for a single good one. Sounds pretty damn realistic to me actually.

To early to be conclusive, but here is my view of the AI personalities. The Drengin are bullies. If they are stronger than you they will pound you. If you are stronger than them, they will respect you and leave you alone (to go pound someone else...like every minor race within spitting distance). They are IMO the easiest AI to get along with The Yor have been for me fairly passive. This is inconclusive because in all three of my "real" games they've had poor starting positi

COMPUTER. Can you say COMPUTER. Say it with me know, I know you can. What is a 4X game but a giant battle of spreadsheets. Some games hide the spreadsheets like GalCiv. Some games emphasize them like Stars. But its all about the calculations. One is 1 thing that computers do far better than any human being ever will... Oh...that's right make calculations. Not only can the computer make more of them faster than you and more accurately...but it never gets bored a

If you are going for cultureal victory and can build up sufficient cash, one of the best tactics I've found is to infiltrate the border areas where there are 14PQ planets that the AI won't colonize. You can buy Soil, Habitat, and Entertainment to make them survive (they still pretty much suck) but it can give you the leverage you need to swing the sector influence to your favor and begin to covert planets. I've NEVER had the AI say boo about it, even when going for the third sector in

Trade...here is how to trade. Take over three of his best planets in three different sectors, taking enough Influence to swing the sector to your favor and begin converting his planet. Then the bastard will offer you Evolutionary Theory, Xeno Manipulation, Overlord, and 400BC a turn for 20 turns just to get you to stop kicking his ass. His ally, whom you haven't even begun to beat up will offer you 400BC a turn for 50 turns just to keep you from kicking his ass. To get the aliens to

I guess I disagree with your definition of threat. Which is more of a threat to my future security and ability to defend myself...1 single dreadnaught that can do X damage to me. Or the starbase that turns that dreadnaught and every other one he owns into something that can do 3X damage to me. Which is more of a threat, the dreadnaught that I can take out with one of my own dreadnaughts...or the starbase that makes that dreadnaught cut through mine like a knife through butter.

Too many people. Build a Combat Transport, load it up with 5 Billion people. Watch morale zoom up. Its rather silly...the remaining 1 billion people leap and cheap that 80% of their closest friends and relatives are being shipped into space never to be seen again...but there you go. What you do with the Combat Transport after words is up to you...invade an enemy world. Declare war on a friend just to give you someone to invade...or simply disband it (yes the planet will stil

1) First, snag the resources...even if you don't upgrade right away...snag them...at least to keep them out of the AI's hands, and by late game you'll be needing them. Second, send ships to defend them...since they tend to be some distance away from your planets they should be defended. If you are largely at peace, use 1 or 2 of your last generation ship. If you're at war and the resource is upgraded to vital levels 2-3 of your best ship if near the front. THEN add starbases
