ObjectBar is very nice! But I normally open the start menu by pressing Ctrl+Esc. And ObjectBar isn't intercepting this hotkey. Instead, Ctrl+Esc just pops up the normal Windows start menu. I tried adding Ctrl+Esc as a hotkey to the relevant place in ObjectBar configuration. But in the 'hotkey' box it asks you to press the hotkeys you want to assign. And whenever I try to press Ctrl+Esc to assign them, Windows merely pops up its old-style start menu. How can I get ObjectBar to w

I made a copy in a single .zip file which you can download. It's at http://www.cs.unibo.it/~ljw1004/galciv ~SDC~
I made a standalone GalCiv database from JavaScout's pages. It's in a single HTML file, so it's easy to print out and read on the toilet. http://www.cs.unibo.it/~ljw1004/galciv/ ~SDC~
I made a standalone GalCiv database - with descriptions of all the techs, ships, projects and starbase mods. It's a single zip file, so you can download it and view it locally. Inside is just single HTML file, so you can print it out and read it on the toilet. I took the data from JavaScout's website. Thanks, JavaScout! http://www.cs.unibo.it/~ljw1004/galciv ~SDC~
I think that the trade goods are a fun game-play idea. Ulyssez, I wrote a custom patch for you to resolve your disagreement. Whenever you see the word "license trade-good", you should mentally cross it out and replace it with "one-time givable item with permanent effect"... :) ~SDC~
Well, at least it works better for people whose "Internet computer" is separate from their "Gaming computer", or is running linux or something... ~SDC~
TYPO: they're referred to as "Combat Transports" in one place, and "Battle Transports" in another. ~SDC~
TYPO: When you win by conquest, it says "Their score is one that most likely be logged..." (there's a missing "will") When you go to the description of a paradise planet, it should be "if Eden were a planet" rather than "was". (Missing subjunctives irk me!) ~SDC~
TALKATIVE ADMINISTRATOR The administrator in charge of development on one of your planets spends all his time speaking to common folk on Planetary Discussion Net. Public morale goes up 10%, but the item currently being built is delayed by five turns.
The RTS game "Magic&Mayhem" was wraparound on top+bottom and left+right, and this gave the game an exciting dynamic feel, since it was much harder to entrench yourself in a corner. I think it's a great idea.
Intel hopes that cpu hyperthreading will give a boost to multithreaded programs. I don't believe this boost will be greater than 1-2%. Clock speed and memory speed will be *FAR* more significant in this game than whether the cpu supports hyperthreading. (caveat: I don't have galciv yet, so this answer is based just on my knowledge of cpu design and multithreaded programming.)
Here's another evil tech. DELAYED GAME TECHNOLOGY. You create a fantastic game on March 6th, but don't let anyone play it until March 25th. 10% of the population die from the unbearable wait.
I dislike all web-forums. Usenet is a technically better solution to the the problem, and you can get a better user-interface for it, and it runs quicker for people on dial-up.
I'm not that keen on getting a free "BonusPak". I'd much rather get a "Bonus Pack"...
Can anyone remember in Dr Who where the planet of the Daleks had gone through such a terrible, long war that it reverted back to the stone age? It's a common enough theme in lots of science fiction. On the other hand, the Civ manual explained that war was the stimulus that lead to new technology and development. So too, I guess, with WW2 and the Cold War. And (although I know nothing about the period I get the impression that) ancient civilizations lived in pretty much perpetual states of war.<b
If you set your refresh-rate too high, then monitors (at least mine!) get too dark. Solution: lower the refresh rate. Are you really sure you want to change the *GAMMA*? High gamma is just a technique for making colours look washed-out by decreasing the colour range. And has the side effect of making things brighter, if the monitor's not calibrated right. It sounds from your problems as if you need more brightness, not more gamma. Adobe Photoshop comes with a program called "Ad
Gherardo, ciao! sono in Bologna. But I don't think Italian is a good guide to "drengin". There isn't a single word in Italian with "eng" in it, apart from English ones, I don't think! At least, I couldn't find any. Well, if "drengin", is a romance word, then the closest in English is "malengin", which comes from mal(evil)+engine(contrivance). It means evil machination, ill-intent, fraud, deceit, guile, but hasn't been used much since the 1700s. There's also the word "dreng", pr
