Well my friends the machine continues to run and impress. The graphics card has some issues while using some things like Google Earth. I am still thinking of upgrading the card and the RAM to DDR2 800, maybe 8 GB. Just for fun I am going to clock the girlfriend's laptop to see how the boot time stacks up against mine. I have been using a combination of Malewarebytes, Kingston PC Doctor, Auslogics Disk Defrag, CCleaner, and AVG to keep the machine happy and running great. No prob

I think the biggest hurdle is getting caught up on bills. Just when I think I am caught up another one shows up. That's life I guess. I'm thankful for the small things.

OK guys here are some times for you. I think I am doing OK. From a press of the power button to the desktop with all start up programs loaded and internet conected - 1 minute, 33 seconds. Firefox from program launch to a open web page - 18 seconds. Google Chrome from program launch to a open web page - 22 seconds. Internet Explorer 9 from program launch to a open web page - 8 seconds. iTunes from program launch to being able to play music - 1

Yeah I've just been putting the system to sleep. Is this a good behavior? I'll take some time readings of boot times and stuff when I am not so busy.

Like I said, it was acting fine before SP1. Don't get me wrong, it's a very snappy system, better than my old one bu far, I was just curious if this slow boot time was normal.

Wow. That Kingsoft PC Doctor has the system booting in about a mintue and 20 seconds. Very impressive, thank you. I'm still noticing a very big lag time when launching apps. Firefox and iTunes take minutes to start up. I will also look into those USB sound cards, thanks. Does anyone screw with services and disable some to improve performance? If so what ones?

OK guys I am running into a few problems so I thought I would seek some advice here. Thanks in advance, I appreciate it. Audio port is very loose. It is a 3.5 mm jack. It is built in to the motherboard. I borrowed a newish sound card from a friend yet there is no drivers for a ESS1988S soundcard. Hey Ace I had a question. Did you ever get a 20 second lag between the time you pressed the power button till the time the board actually posted on screen? This board does that every time I turn it on. I was curious if this was normal.

That post about IE wasn't meant to be antagonistic. It used to be around here that people warned others to not use IE. As for me, I try not to make a fool of myself. Sorry. It happens. Live and learn I guess.

First of all insert facepalm here. You completely misread my post, or failed to understand me. For the record I like Linux, and what it represents, I just can't use it as my main OS. Monk, thanks for the list. I still don't like MSE. You can't turn off the auto-updating behavior. Very annoying. I don't let ANY program on my machine the ability to update itself. Everything is set to manual. EDIT: By the way, every test I have seen, no matter the month, MSE gets bad marks.
