An impression thread usually gets started for every new game that comes out (there is in fact one for GalCiv, pretty positive so far!). So this is this boards Impressions Thread. Please let us know what you think of the game! Gameplay most of all, graphics, sound, addiction factor, that sort of thing. I'll be getting this after work today, most likely, so no impressions from me until tomorrow probably. :p fleabitfox

Why would you want to give them a heads up if you don't have to? Just curious. If I had the option to A. Position my troops and then attack or B. Let them know I am going to declare war on them, giving them time to prepare, I would choose A. :D What *would* be cool (and I don't know if they do this.. I am getting the game later today, but I am assuming they do not do this), would be that if they saw you prepping for war.. i.e. your ships were surronding their planets, hanging out o
I would much rather it was difficult sooner than later. Once you master the hardest difficulty setting, it would very quickly become much less fun. If it always will be a challange, I'll be happy. Can't wait to try it.. buying it at EB tomorrow (the smuckerheads didn't have it today, grrr...) fleabitfox
Feh.. just twenty? LOL fleabitfox
If you were playing against 3 other human players.. would you simply never attack? Of course not. Just like any multiplayer 4x game.. or in fact *any* game, you take out the weakest if you can. Heck.. that is a basic premise even in the boardgame Risk. :D But there are documented GalCiv games where people have won without firing a shot. I don't know what 4x games you have played, but that *is* a rarity, for 4x games till now. It is possible in GalCiv.. be happy. =) fle
*beats the young, disrespectful whippersnappers over their noggins with his cane... whapwhapwhap!* Mind yer manners sonny.. =) I just turned 36 about a week ago. On the bright side, I *look* 27 or so? *sigh* fleabitfox
Oh. Well... drat. (:( Ok, I'll get over it. It sounded like a neat view! I was up for a jack of all trades benefit. feh.. :D fleabitfox
I am not certain about GalCiv, as I have not played it. But I would NOT give MOO3 an 8. Or a 7. A 5.5 out of 10 might be appropriate. After mods and patches are released, I think it may get well up to 7.5 or so. We'll see. Overall a huge dissapointment for me. Convulated, confusing interface, screwy enemy AI, lack of info, POOR graphics (800x600? gotta be kidding me..), issues with your own AI, etc.. it all adds up to an extremely poor release. I have no idea what has been going on the l
I don't think people need fear a population increase. There are a couple reactions to a game. One is very positive. The result on the boards for that game is a lot of questions typically, by new posters, lots of praise, and a few potshots that typically are inudated with irritated lovers of the game. IL-2 Forgotten Battles is a good example. Awesome game.. the boards are civil, even with a population increase, and almost all the posts are positive. The games that don't meet up with
Remember the lil' girl from Willy Wonka? The one who taunted those poor oopma loompas.. singing "I want it NOW!". She was a bad egg. She got swallowed up by the furnaces. Let that be a lesson and a warning! :D fleabitfox
I added a response to that thread on the MOO forums. Some of the mods strike me as condescending, and anyone who is not a devout MOO fan is touted as a troll. Instead of being good 4X fans, as Brad is, as well as many others here, on the MOO board, you like MOO.. or you burn at the stake. :D I'm STILL very irritated at the rudeness regarding game resolution. Their faq is a slap in the face. fleabitfox
In the user manual, it says that the smaller % of increases for the Universalist is offset by 'advantages' gained later on. Is this specific gains for being a Universalist? Later in the game? Sorry if it is a silly question.. just curious. :D fleabitfox
There is nothing wrong with posting about another 4X game on antother site. It is ludicrous to insist it is 'trolling' simply because you are trying to point out another game in this genre, and explaining its strengths and weaknesses as opposed to other 4X games. I wouldn't advocate a 'neener our game is better than yours!' approach, but there is nothing wrong with intelligent discussion. If they get their underwear in a bunch, who cares. There are those who post on the MOO3 site who
The Borg idea seems neat, but I would do it in such a way that it doesn't discriminate. A vastly technologically superior race cuts a swathe across the galaxy, in an arc or something. It would be a slow 'assimilation', so that you would have to factor in where you think they will go, and avoid those planents, lest you lose them later. Those planets behind them they leave a smaller, defeatable force. You can retake those planets controlled by this race, but it would not be easy. flea
Word sucked in all the pretty graphics, so I think I'm fine. A .PDF would be nice tho! I would imagine that'll be on the CD. fleabitfox
Nevermind.. I think. I am sucking it into Word, not sure if it is going to nab the graphics or not though. If there is a simple text version tho, lemme know! :D fleabitfox
I would love to read up on this game before it arrives, but during my lunch hour (away from the computer). Is there a printable version of the user manual, or shall I have to resort to the ol' cut and paste? Thanks! fleabitfox
Yea.. if you don't like it, simply don't purchase it. I rather wish I could play as other races as well, mostly for the 'neato' aspect of it, but it hardly kills the game for me. Playing this way, I will soon get into a happy 'us against THEM' mentality, which should be a kick. Really.. in games like MOO2 and SEIV, the only difference was you would inhabit different sorts of planets. The changes for each race was actually pretty minor. Since this game completely lets you twe
Um.. so when is the Platinum version out? :D
Oh.. I visit GoneGold quite a bit (and post there quite a bit as well). I am used go titles *going* gold.. but this has been refered to as the 'gold version' for a while on this board, which was just odd. I've never heard a title called the 'gold' version.. just because it was the final retail version. :D Confusion arose since there is a SEIV Gold version. I thought perhaps it was a sneaky 4X endeavor! fleabitfox
Just out of curiosity, what exactly *is* the 'gold' version? Will it be available at the same time as the standard version, what will the price be, and what will it include? Or is the gold version simply the final retail version? I couldn't easily find the answer, so I figured someone here could answer this question for me. Thanks! fleabitfox
I don't care for Gamespot nearly as much as I did 1.. 1 and a yalf years ago. Now? Their reviews as someone said tend to pump up the huge titles, and blast the lesser known games. Some reviews are well written, but often completely MISSING certain elements of games. I don't trust Gamespot at all. An example. IL-2, Forgotten Battles was recently released. I and other WWII flight sim fans are quite certain this is THE best flight sim ever released. It is just phenomeneal. Yet Gamespot giv
Well, Frogboy did state in another thread that the AI does *not* cheat, except in the impossible setting, at which it gets an economic bonus if I remember correctly. Since he wasn't playing impossible, it would stand to reason the AI was not getting unfair bonuses of any kind. fleabitfox
In SEIV, my little scout ships with minor armament I call Dreadnots.. ;p fleabitfox
Actually Soulfire, that is a pretty much outdated software licensing policy. Nowadays, software is licensed on a per computer basis. It is licensed for use on a single computer, and that is it. They may deviate from what is pretty much an industry standard now, but I doubt it. At least, this is how most commercial software licensing is handled. I buy and install tons of software for our company, and most of it is of this variety. The only exception? Some have a key (hardware or a
