I've only played on large or larger maps so far, having restarted several games to get a feel for it. I've not lease bought any ships.. I found the cost later was hurting me. I rather buy my first colony ship outright, colonize 2 systems, and (hopefully) by the time those planets start cranking out colony ships, I'll have uncovered more systems. By the time I had around 15 systems, my opponents had around as many or a bit less than me, so it seems to work.. at least on a larger map. I can se

There is a more comprehensive one at Javascouts site you can print. It is rather large though, I would imagine even 11x17 would even be a tad on the small side. I've printed it out on a plotter.. nice 'n large. :D fleabitfox

Wierdness. But since I've not heard of one other person with this problem, if you are going to reference a POS, you might want to check out your computer instead.. ;p Seriously though, the devs have been wonderful about helping those with issues. No need to go postal over the problem. LOL Post it in the bugs thread. fleabitfox

I can't stand most multiplayer games. Annoying, rude, childish, immature players.. slow games, lag, cheating and loopholes, huge egos.. you name it. There are few I like gaming online with. The ONLY game I really enjoy playing online is IL-2, since it is such an awesome game (and now FB), and because the players are typically more mature. And ship design? Nice if implemented correctly. But when ships are obsolete as soon as they are released, it gets VERY annoying. That isn't fun.

What is seems like to me is that they will move at the end of the turn. Unless you move a ship manually, then they all do their automoves before the end of turn. UNLESS.. the star systems are aligned just right it seems, then some will move.. and some will not. Um.. it is a little confusing. :p Chalk it up to the learning curve *sigh* Anyone have a really clear idea of how autopilot works, and if it can be shut off completely? Or for certain ship types? Thanks! fl

Thanks for the responses! Seems like you have pondered this as I have JNOV.. although to a greater extent. LOL That sounds reasonable however. I hope a dev though, puts his 2 cents in. I would love some clear, precise answers to this issue, as I imagine it is of some importance. :D That does help me get pointed in the right direction tho! fleabitfox

The manual says 'The spend rate is waht percentage of your manufacturing and technological ability you are using'. ok.. but what exactly *is* it, and how does it affect my economy? If my spend rate is say, 80%.. does that mean I'll spend up to 80% of all production points each turn? Or that if my spend rate is 100%, but I don't have enough military and social projects going on, I won't spend that 100%? If I spend that 100%, and I am doing to many projects in to many star systems, tha

I'm a network admin, but I work for an enviromental remediation company. We have a few cad stations, and a few plotters, but only one really nice(er) one. Um.. I was testing out the postscript print drivers, that's all.. honest! LOL fleabitfox P.S. I could be wrong about that tech tree, if say.. you could get a tech by researching one OR the other one prior to researching the new one. I am used to having set prerequisites in a game, so I don't know if the c

I have a plotter at work.. makes my huuuge tech tree look SO good! Muahahaa.. ;p By the way, not that it really matters, but he went a little line 'n arrow crazy on his tech tree (at least the project and tech tree). There are relationship arrows that don't need to be there, making it a tad more complex than it needs to be. For instance, Avatar technology: There are relationship lines from both Self Healing Armor as well as from Ranger Technology. However the one from Ranger tech

It would be a great feature, IMO. Clicking on every ship each turn to turn off autopilot could get cumbersome. I enjoy especially earlier in the game, to control where my ships go. An 'autopilot off' option would be nice. Any chance this could be included? Brad? Anyone? :D fleabitfox

Good to know, thanks! And a good question MadCow.. I noticed the same thing. Strategy quetion then. Should your survey ship ignore the anomolies nearest your star systems early in the game, saving them for Rangers and other ships later in the game? I'm assuming anomolies don't recrop up later then. And that would be a neat mod IMO. Anomolies that not only appear, but DISappear during the game. Thus always being a fair supply of them. Good? No? Could someone mod this plea

13 Replies 627 Views

Gah.. are you serious?! What good are anomolies then? It isn't as if hitpoints or better armor is going to help out a ship that won't ever see combat if I can help it! If only survey ships can use anomolies that pump up your ship.. they are fairly worthless, IMO. If that is the case.. is there any tech that will give your fighers, corvettes, battleships etc.. the ability to snag anomolies? And additionally, do anomolies repopulate over the course of a game? I really hope the answer

I was up sooo late playing GalCiv last nite *yawn* But as I was wrapping up, I recalled when I found anomolies that gave my ship bonuses that it said your 'ship' received say, a +4hp bonus or whatever. Is this a bonus for ALL ships, both current and to be made in the future, including non researched ship types? Thanks in advance for any answer to this! fleabitfox

Just out of curiosity, what do you name your star systems? I myself have been using names (Weyrs, and then names of dragons, etc) from the Pern series. Sort of along the same lines and all, about colonists populating a planet. So I have Ruatha, and Benden, and Fort, etc. Watcha name 'em after? fleabitfox

I'll probably find it somewhere eventually.. it is just easier to find out here, what-with all the beta gurus of this game. LOL Just wondering how to turn off the autopilot for ships (or for certain ships, if possible), so you can move them all yourself, if you wish. Thanks! fleabitfox

Heh.. what I was thinking knofuzed. Gamespot reviewer tilts it at '9'.. and I would tend to agree. And the longevity of this game is pretty much assured with continuing support and bonuses, as well of course, as mods when the editor is released. Bottom line. It is 40 bucks. If 40 bucks means that much to you, and you don't want to listen to what is for the most part overwhelming positives for this game, simply wait for the demo to be released in April, and judge for yourself. oh, now you are just sucking up. :p It is a great game tho.. played since I brought it home. *yawn* must sleep i suppose, sooner or later. Right after I download a few winamp mp3 lists. LOL fleabitfox

13 Replies 1,097 Views

Well actually, the reviewers 'tilt' is indeed '9'. So yes.. he seems to agree with you completely. He feels he must average out the score like they average out *all* game scores, to include graphics and sound, but his personal tilt is 9. That is a fine review. 8.6 is 'great' on their grading system. For most 4x gamers, it will indeed be a 9, and in fact, over the course of the year, it will only increase with the bonus packs, updates, ai fixes, etc. Not that it needs much fixing no
