Excellent, thank you so much! You saved me from having to drill the thing out myself. LOL It looks excellent, thanks for the legend, I was hoping you would put that in, and the starbase modules are great. The white version would be perfect.. I print this thing out on a plotter, and it looks wonderful. The only problem I have is that the green prints on a HP plotter darker than it looks in your picture, and so it is not easy to read unless you are very close. Which makes m

"Sixteen and seventeen, thats one or two numbers away from the lowes they'll go. Also given that on larger maps the AI will have built social improvements upping PQ so that there aren't any 15 class planets looking to be owned by them its not hard to think that. Is the AI not colonizing anything below 15 in the manual, or was it just posted somewhere here on the forum?" So if he is off by a # or two.. no biggie? um.. no. I expect if a review is going to be professional, it is going to

Ah.. cool, thanks! doktorstick: Easiest way is to bring up the planet list, and double click on a planet in the list. If it wasn't in your 'box' in the minimap prior to double clicking, it will be the system centered in your box (I'm talking about the yellow selection box, that shows what part of the galaxy you are looking at in the mini map). If you happened to have your yellow box (on the mini map)already around the system, and then double click it from the planet list, the

You are joking, right? It was a postive review? What review sites do you normally frequent? If I read this comment: "Unfortunately, out of the box, it is hard to recommend due to its own failings" ... there is NO way I could twist it to make it seem like it was a 'positive' review. A positive review does not at the end of it, recommend against purchasing a game. I had more problems with this review than his own personal feelings toward the game. As a gamebuyer rea

Um.. new feature in new version. I guess I'm a dolt, since I can't get it to work.. whatever it is. LOL Brad said: "You can use the zoom thingy at the top right to toggle between the sector map and the planet list when looking at a star system. Very VERY handy." Does someone know what this is.. and how it works? I've clicked the + and - signs.. i've used the mouse wheel.. I have no idea what he is talking about! Please help, thanks! :p fleabitfox

I've added my own post for GalCiv on the Avault forum, since I think those that visit the site (that might wander in the forum) should get another viewpoint, since the reviewers is obviously skewed to the negative for his own reasons (i.e. he sucks, and doesn't like it). Make sure to post there, let 'em know what you think people! The game rocks.. spread the good word. LOL fleabitfox

** When two fleets engage in battle display a battle screen with ships on one side in a column on the left and ships on the other side in a column on the right. Each ship fires in turn at a specific ship on the other side. As ships are destroyed, they are removed from the screen. In this way, battles play out exactly as they do now except you can see individual ships. Don't tell me that it is impossible to implement or would drastically alter the nature of the game. ** Huh.. tha

His 'corrections' to the intelligence and difficulty section were pathetic. I'm completely disgusted with Rich Leader as a reviewer.. what an egotistial twad. He went on to blather how it is a complex AI.. but it isn't a *good* AI. What a jerk *sigh*.. I think he is just pi$$y because the game kicked his butt. It is ironic. There has only been one other review I didn't agree with in all the reviews I've read on Avault, because typically, I love the reviews there. Divine Divi

Well, they closed the thread on Avault. But this was said by the editor: "Brad investigated the save file on his end and sent us the info from the debugger. Low and behold - we were wrong (yes, we're not afraid to say it). What was actually taking place inside the game was a rather intense set of trades and diplomatic negotiations that gave the outward appearance that the AI was "getting help." In my opinion, there was no way Rich could have interpreted this differently based

The only TBS game I enjoyed the tactical combat from was Age of Wonders 2. How you battled it out was not predetermined, and it was a blast. Most games that implement tactical combat tho.. boring city. Tell me.. how many battles do you REALLY get into that are so close, your moving your many ships around will make a difference? It is not many. And most of *those* fights are not fought, since most people avoid fights they know they have a good chance of losing. Keep your tac

It is especially odd coming from Avault, for 2 reasons. First off I respect their reviews.. they are usually dead on. But here is the interesting thing. Typically, they come out with a review a rather long time after release. Even if they had received the game well before it was released to the public, you don't see reviews there until well after it has been out. I've seen reviews crop up there for a popular game well after a month has gone by. It seems to me that this reviewer did NOT spe

Well, last night I found a system quite a bit into the game (I had contacted all races on a large map, had probably 7 or 8 starbases, most systems were occupied, etc) when I found a lone system near the fringe. It was pretty darn close to the Arcean empire to. It harbored the following planets (and it was yellow): 2 class 26, 1 class 17, and 1 class 15. So the AI does not always rush and nab the best planets, that's for certain! As soon as 4 of my colony ships made beelines for this system,

As an aside.. can you research a trade tech that has been researched by another race? Frictionless clothes, for example. And then use them in trade? You get that monopoly message.. so I was curious. I am about to start my trade master game. My war game is going well. Trade schmade.. my war game I get my money by intimidating other races, muahahaa! ;p fleabitfox

That's a great planet! But I didn't mean a single planet, I meant the best planets in a star system. Although I wouldn't mind a class 40, nope! LOL Is two class 26's, a class 17 and a class 15 all that common? Should I fight to keep it? I would guess so.. just curious how uncommon systems like that are. fleabitfox

Suggestion THREAD is what I meant, which is stickied near the top. Fanboy attitude? *lmao* Don't waste your breath blathering cute 'net slang at me, I've gamed and been online for 18+ years. I'm a fan of this game, but I'm well aware that it can be improved.. all games can, and especially those in this genre. I was being POLITE.. since it is more likely your suggestion will be NOTICED on a STICKIED thread.. capiche'? I myself have posted a few suggestions on that thread.. so obvious

I'm just curious what is the best star system anyone has found. Much of one of the large maps I am on had been populated, but I found on the fringe a system with 2 class 26 planets, a class 17, and a class 15. Wee! LOL Needless to say, many of colony ships started heading in that direction. I brought a corvette over for some backup.. and sure enough, the Arceans had a string of colony ships enroute to this system as well. Well.. I'm afraid I had no choice but to blow up their colo

No.. you just stink at the game. ;p Seriously though, there are many strategies for economy improvement, from starbases, to freighters, to government changes to techs. Things like tax rate and spending affect your economy. Look more deeply and you shall see the light. LOL fleabitfox

It is not 'cheating' if the AI monsters discover the other races with the same ease that they discover you. And I have a feeling they certainly do. What would you rather have them do.. wander in aimless circles until they finally accidently ran into a scout or something? Or maybe after a FEW events, a barrage of wandering space monsters all find your system at the same time. Now *that* would be fun. ;p It is not cheating, it is just the way it is. fleabitfox

It would be akin to playing a chess game with someone.. but while he used his own unique plans, ideas and gamestyle, the other guy used a computer chess program sitting by him to pick the best moves possible so he could play well. Give me learning curve over hold-my-hand any day. fleabitfox

29 Replies 1,686 Views

heh.. that would be funny. But I agree, it *would* be useful. Why? Because you get so engrossed in the game, you don't even think to look away. Last night is a good example. Laundry nite for me. So I have a load in the dryer.. one is moldering still wet in a basket. I start into my war party game. 2 and a half hours later.. I snap out of my trance, and it is 12:30 in the morning, my laundry is getting wrinkled in the dryer, and the wet clothes are sprouting mushrooms by now. So yea.. yo

Oh.. and the AI does not cheat. You may assume it is, but it is not. Perhaps there is a bug or two out there waiting to be found, but the game does NOT cheat as the original poster claims. He and a few others have pulled this opinion from threads by those who make this claim without any solid proof. Go read in the inane 'Brad come clean' thread if you would like proof positive it does not, from Brad himself. so feh.. ;p fleabitfox
