Are you certain the AI doesn't already do this? I was playing a game, and I watched the AI take over an orange system with a class 13 or 14 planet, and it was upgraded by them immediately. Unless I was losing my mind (in my sleep deprivated state, this is possible!), I did see this happen in a game. fleabitfox

Yea, ok, I knew that! Just.. testing your knowedge.. yup. Gotta make sure the GG's know their stuff! LOL I hope this bug is one of the fixable bugs this coming patch! And I think the trade good 'cheese sauce' should be added to the game. I know the other races would love to have it, in case they ever go to war with the Broccoli head Torians. fleabitfox

The bug with the trade goods is annoying enough by itself (which is if another race finishes a trade good, YOU can no longer make it.. and in fact, if you were researching it, you then have to research something else. But if YOU make a trade good.. the other races can still also make these goods). But add in a weirdness and it is really annoying. Does anyone know if time spent on making a trade good is supposed to be wasted time, if another race finishes it? That is.. if you are maki

Does anyone know if the speed bonus is working correctly? Started a new game, and wanted fast war ships, since I was going to be a jerk to all the other races. So I kicked them up +1 speed.. and while I can see the speed increase for my survey ship, and my colony ships.. the ships I've found via asteriods (a defender and a battleaxe), both have their speeds still at 1. Does the speed bonus only affect the ships you construct, or is it having issues? I know it *had* issues, but I thoug

Ok.. this is what I thought it was. And IMO, this should be a priority fix.. any strategy that revolves around trade goods becomes rather moot when anyone can make them after I do. :notsure: I agree Horatio.. you should be able to differenciate between obtained and studied trade goods. I dunno about the planet things.. if it is an important asset, perhaps they loaded those pieces of frictionless clothes on escape ships and made off with them. LOL I guess I shoul

Why do you get the message about a trade good being a monopoly when it is completed by another race? Um.. is it? I've not noticed. I was studying diplomatic translators, and I swear that 1 MONTH before I completed it, another race did (jerks), and it was no longer being researched. Is this true? Can you still get it? Or was I simply losing my mind because it was like, 2 am? And if this is the case.. why can other races get these monopoly trade goods AFTER you do? Any know? Thank

I do this in a slightly different way. I crank military.. then research, get the necessary techs (plus a couple more, takes only a couple months). Then I go into deficit spending, crank tax rates up a bit, and get not only aphrodisiacs, but diplomatic translators, frictionless clothing, and alloy as well. 4 trade goods in usually no longer than 16 months (plus the original months to set this up). At least at the current level, I get all of them first, and by then come into contact with sever

Just wondering out of curiosity, when a patch is going to correct the starting bonuses for War party, and the other one that is screwed up. :D Um.. not to pressure you guys!!! You are doing an AWESOME job. So erhm.. take your time, yup! Just asked out of bland curiosity, since I am trying many different starting stratagies and that is messing me up a bit. fleabitfox

Many of you may already do this, but just a note to those who do not. Near the beginning of the game, if you want to accomplish certain military or social goals quickly should do some deficit spending. That is.. raise your spend slider so that you are losing a goodly amount of bc's each turn. Doing my population and planet snagging strategy, I pump out colony ships with military cranked.. and then I crank reseach, to learn banking, and get aphrodesiac. Once I learn the techs,

Brad made it pretty clear I thought, that he wanted to avoid the mega-fleet problem, where one huge fleet was mopping up everything. I had the same problem in the HOMM games. One huge stack does the work, the rest are simply decoys or slowdown troops. It may not be the most realistic way to do it, but I try to look at it like a game of chess or a board game. The positioning of the pieces is more important than the strength of the piece. In the game, strategically placing your best '

Yup.. I actually tend to wait a little bit though. Especially if using the ol' Shazam! method. :D With +15%, I go nab planets.. military cranked. Then crank research for a short period, and get banking and medical. Then I crank social, and go into deficit spending, getting aphrodesiac. I can get one pretty quick like this. While I have social cranked, I build all my soil and habitat upgrades.. only takes from 2 to 3 turns for each, tops. Then I build banks. By the time the aphr

Now *that* is a good question. I would think non official mods would null your score though, since you could create your own mod that maxes all your ships stats. LOL Would be nice to know though, if user mods that have been approved by the team could be used. For instance, I would hate to think a mod that adds ship designs to your game would null your score as well. And hopefully, I'll finish some of the 9 consecutive GalCiv games I have going right now, so I can start sub

"You'll still get time to play GalCiv... Like when the SW:G server is down for upgrading and such." Oh yea.. that's a good point! But that was originally allocated as my 'get food so I don't wither away and die' time. Well, I'll just order pizza's via credit card, and have them slip them through a crack in the window.. that should work! :D fleabitfox

Yup.. and in fact, I was wondering why some of my techs were researched before I thought they would be done. I kept grabbing creativity, since it is only 1 point, and increases it 25%. Seemed like a good deal.. whatever it did. LOL But as Ash said, just done sooner. I imagine it is a % chance each month.. but whether it is a static amount, or slowly increases until you finish one early, I don't know. fleabitfox

Heh.. I know, I'm awful Ash! Actually I will submit several games to the Metaverse once I complete them. :p I've got like.. I dunno, 8 or 9 games of GalCiv going at once. I love trying out new stuff, so I've my war game, my techs, my merchants, my good war guys, my eyyvl empire against a bunch of stupid but goodie two shoes races, etc... games all going on at once. I'll probably complete several of them in the near future. LOL fleabitfox

I think they are planning on a May (think June) release now, which makes sense with the beta testers getting their emails now. I'm still skeptical but shall beta dilligently. I've yet to see an MMORPG that I am really pleased with. DAoC was rather fun though. This game certainly has potential, I've been following it pretty closely. We'll see what happens. PvP is a big key I think.. guess I'll soon see how the battles work, and if it is a decent alternative. If any of you are going

Well this was just great timing. I forgot that I signed up for the Star Wars Galaxies beta awhile back (um.. I was still 35 at the time, now I'm 42! No.. actually, I'm 36 now LOL ). I got an acceptance letter today. That is going to cut into my GalCiv time, and now I am peeved. >:( If I previously had much less of a life because of this game, between this and SW:G, I'll have none at all! :p fleabitfox

I hope Brad doesn't think I was saying 'this game may cheat.. it's ok!' :D I VERY much appreciate that this game plays by the same rules. And actually, once Brad pointed out the ways it matters, I appreciate it even more. It is very nice to know that 'Cause A' will have 'Effect Y', since the AI can't circumnavigate the issue with a cheap cheating ploy. Thanks Brad! ;p And waright.. what are you getting at? What does a developer actually typing out 'the AI cheats by see
