Brad has stated that this really isn't that much of an advantage, and I pretty much agree with him. After your first colony ship, crank out a scout. You'll know where the yellow stars are before your colony ships set out to colonize them. I suppose on the smaller maps this might be an issue, but it certainly is not on the larger maps. fleabitfox

How about this.. if the AI could and often WOULD pick the +15% PQ bonus.. or more than one did each game, would you be so keen on it being in? LOL Just imagine the AI having any ability, and ask yourself.. 'would it be to powerful if the AI had it?'. If the answer is 'yes', it is probably overpowered. And I am still solidly of the mind if you want to cheat, fine.. but don't demand that the devs while trying to balance a game make it easy for you to do so. Complaining they

Might as well chime in and say.. it has worked perfectly for me, each and every time I have used it. If it works perfectly for one person, but not another, it is your system that is funky.. not Stardock. Basic troubleshooting. ;p As far as the updates go, this is by far the most excellent support for updates I have ever had in gaming, and I've gamed extensively since 1985. Goes to show.. you can't please everyone. And in fact, updating a game once a month is FREQUENT. Ma

Well, if you would like stuff documented (such as what buttons do what, what can be clicked, what the icons are, etc etc..), make certain to hit the main page and add your comments to the 'manual' thread. They are making an updated manual.. woot!!! Make sure you tell 'em what you would like to see in it!! fleabitfox

I love the windowed mode.. no rush, take your time! LOL Whenever it gets updated is fine by me. Actually, it is kind of cool being a bit behind. One can troubleshoot any issues with a new patch this way, as well as try different patch strategies. ;p fleabitfox

I think the positive posts far outweight the negative ones.. this is one decent forum! IMO, you can tell how good a game is by how civil the forums are. If you want to see a forum that has become a um.. 'hive of scum and villany', go to MOO3. When Morrowind and NWN came out, tons of negative posts. In fact, the only other site that is almost as fun and helpful is the IL-2 forums, for IL-2 is also one excellent game. So I'll add my 'Thank You!' to everyone elses. I really appreciate

* Cannot get details on technologies while in diplomacy screen. I use Za-h's excellent tech tree. Printed on a plotter, sits on my wall. Very handy, and with it, I don't need an in game tech tree, although this wouldn't hurt. * Cannot tell what projects, ships, etc., that result from techs do from tech screen, or the planet details screen. Again, I use a printed tech tree.. like it better anyways. * Cannot get details on projects, ships, etc., from planet vi

I don't see how this is a big deal. If you like an unfair advantage, or enjoy just trying weird stuff, by all means do. Get your hands on a trainer / cheat program, and do whatever you please. Edit the text files, and change it to your hearts desire. Trainers always come out for games after they've been out for a month or two. Simply use one of those. Since the Metaverse is also going to be used as a guideline to improve AI, I would *not* want games input where something terribly u

I think there is plenty enough variation. Once more modded events take place, and the expansion is released, it will be even better. Like some board games (Risk, etc), strategy is the game. Diplomacy and logistics are what make this game fun, *especially* on the larger maps. I only play huge+ sized maps. It makes the game very interesting. Civ IMO didn't have that much 'variation'. I by far, was more bored with Civ III than with GalCiv. I've played this game a rather lot

IMO, patches and updates should be to fix problems and balance issues, NOT add features. That is what the upcoming expansion is for.. as well as MODS. That they have taken the time to indeed add some new content is awesome. But I don't expect it. In fact, if the next couple of patches ONLY focused on fixing some of the still present issues, and added NO extra content, I would be well pleased. fleabitfox

You are certainly entitled to your opinion. If you enjoy this aspect of the game, simply don't upgrade. Download the standalone 2.0 patch, and run from there. I think it is terribly unbalancing myself. It is almost guaranteed victory, since you can so massively out-everything the other AI's. It would not be a problem to keep in, except for the Metaverse. So it *should* go. Has nothing to do with whiners, but just helps people get cheese high scores on the Metaverse easier. That..

Well, actually 1/3rd of your planets pop would be doing military construction, 1/3 would be doing social projects, and another 1/3 would be on the galaxy-wide research R&D team. So in actuality, out of 10 billion people, 3.3 billion were working on military, and when you trimmed down to 1 billion, it took them that much longer. If you set your other sliders to 0%, that other 2/3rds of your planets population are lazing around, taking a much needed vacation. LOL You can't ex

Um.. if you are having difficulties at the 'fool' level, you are in trouble to begin with. Nerfing something that is clearly an exploit is NOT a nerf, it is a BALANCE. There is plenty of 'cheese' tactics left if you want to use them. And comparing this to EQ.. that is just WRONG! *shudder* fleabitfox

Well, if it were rare, I would guess you would only have 1 a map, if that. So if say.. the map generated 1 on a map every say.. 5 games, and you were playing all the races, you would see it less than once every 25 games. And the OTHER games, some other race would be benefitting from it. LOL So imo, it would be a resource that would simply overpower one AI, more than anything else. fleabitfox

You can get friendly (or unfriendly) with another race by simply maintaining an alignment that mirrors one, or is the opposite of another. For instance, with no trades (or traderoutes), etc.. just by being 'good' (getting the 'good' interface), the Alexians become friendly to me, and the Yor cool. The Arceans are neutral. So I am just curious.. since I've not done it yet, but is it possible to get 'close' to the Arceans by staying on a neutral path? I would make sense to do so, imo.

Yea, I am kind of surprised it hasn't gotten more attention. One would think this is a big problem. Unless they feel it unbalances the game towards the human player, and don't WANT it to work.. ;p I just have my trading and cultural stuff on hold. I am playing my 'geeze i'm a wicked mean bad guy' military game. fleabitfox

Several people said with new games, this was still occurring. In fact Carielf said that the *duplicate* bug had been fixed.. but not the ability for another race to build a wonder or trade good you have already made. However, people have reported that even duplicates are appearing with the newest version.. so who knows. fleabitfox

" What it gets is a *slightly* more efficient economy and higher starting abilities." No, it doesn't, not until the aformentioned highest 2 levels. Then it gets a slight economic advantage, I'm not even certain about higher starting abilities. But below these levels, they get no bonus of any kind, other than starting out with stellar cartography (seeing yellow stars, which isn't really a huge advantage, imo). At 'intelligent', they are equal to you in every way except the cart

Count me for one that prefers a maintenance fee for starbases. In fact, what I think would work is: 1. Starbases are maintenance free to a set point, based on the map size you are playing. 2. At the cutoff point, all starbases built from this point on have a maintenance fee attached to them. 3. At another set point, the maintence fee for all those starbases built after the original cutoff point will start going up by 'X' amount for each one built. 4. You

I think this has an easy solution. Allow 2 things. 1. Starbases can be dismantled with you receiving a monetary compensation (for the orginal, plus for each module). Just a fraction of the original cost mind you, but something to compensate for your time and labor. 2. At set limits for each different map size, make a cutoff point where you will start to have to pay maintenance fees for starbases over that set amount. Only charge for the additional starbases. At another se
