I still think stellar cartography would be much more useful is it was a prerequisite for another sort of cartography.. one that identified those purple starts with great planets (or those lighter purple systems with great influence). Then it would actually be useful (since the AI does not know where those purple systems are either). fleabitfox

Thanks for the tool, it's helpful and neat! One thing.. is there a way that say, you can have the choice made display the bonuses, social or military improvements for your original pick? Also, it would be VERY cool (ok.. more work maybe, but still very cool!) if you could make it so that you could um say.. pick 'morale bonuses' from a list.. and ker*poof*.. you get a list of techs or social improvements that would improve morale. And then clicking on each item would give the a

On the larger maps, I've been taking the +1 speed bonus more often (you may have noticed they mini-nerfed it from 4 to 5 points for cost). It really helps on expanding in the early game. Other than that, I try to just match up my strategy for that game with the proper party, and then match that with the bonuses. I guess you could mix it up a little, giving you a wider range of bonuses in smaller increments to start. But seems wiser to pump up party stats with bonuses. Especially if

1. Well, if you are an expert at this sort of game, no 4X game probably is going to be 'very hard' for you. LOL I definately agree though, that making the AI play smarter is a good thing. Escorted transports, smarter defense at starbases or on planets, etc. These features will certainly be implemented over time. The support for this game is nothing short of excellent. The Devs (Brad in particular) creates suggestion threads.. this is only good. If you have some expert ideas, do post the

Exactly.. being eyyyvl just for the sake of it because it gives you more benefits is um.. well, evil! It is harder by far to be a good guy. There *are* good techs tho.. so it is not without reward. Also, your allies seem to be stauncher allies by far. The Drengin make poor friends. LOL fleabitfox

One thing I'm not sure about is diminishing returns. I'm just not sure if there is any! As I crank a slider up to 100%, does it get less efficient (or is any sort of penalty enforced) between say, 80% and 100%? Not sure.. maybe a guru can answer. LOL Yea.. those Drengin can be real jerks. grrr. One thing I have NOT tried is small gifts to keep them happy. Perhaps offer them tidbits. Enough to keep them off your back, and also perhaps prevent them from for asking for a tribute (

Yer welcome! I'm hardly a 4x expert, although I've played plenty of them. I've admittedly played more GalCiv already than even MOO2! I've yet to even FINISH a game of GalCiv though, not yet. I'm a tester.. I love trying out new strategies. I think I've gotten my opening game set, and so now I am moving on to midgame strategies. I probably picked this up in chess darnit. >:( But at least doing this strategy, by the time I roll out of the opening game, into the thick of things, I

There is a site that has a TON of different ship sets, mostly made for SEIV. I'll have to find it again. Most of them are just as excellent as the Star Trek set. One that is really cool (and is kinda funny, all things considered) is a 'shark' ship set. All the ships are based on a shark space race.. very cool and mean looking at that! I think you should be able to recruit space sharks to your cause if you use them. LOL fleabitfox

I always nab the PQ upgrades.. by the time my trade goods are done, most of my worlds are class 20 or so. They all have the ability to produce more.. and since I just nabbed aphrodesiac (unless some cheesy no name race or the Broccoli Heads nab it first), their pop goes up nicely. Also, nabbing the one that gives you Aphrodesiac gives you habitat improvement.. might as well use it early! I do a lot of 80 to 100 % slider stuff early in the game. 85% military to start.. then 100% resea

I know most people get pretty snippy about others taking their web designs, art etc.. and using them elsewhere. You should never do so, without permission first. It is common curtesy for one, and it could be the law, for the other thing. LOL fleabitfox

Yes.. I mean purple STARS, not planets. Darker purple stars with class 26 planets in them that are whatever color class 26 planets want to be. ;p When I find one of those systems, I often find class 24.. class 26 planets in them. Of course, CariElf could be REALLY nice and make a tech that say.. shows both those high influence and high planet creating stars! That would be nice.. LOL fleabitfox

"I'll believe this when either one of the "superstitious" lot that looks at one game and decides something is going on posts some statistical data where n > 50, or one of the devs says that's what the code is supposed to do. Do you really think in the same patch they took out the PQ +15 they would have put a party in that "most certainly" gave you more yellow stars? You really don't give them much credit when you make this declaration." How about.. I've tested it myself, and it

"but unlike Civ where I had a sense of accomplishment and a `COOL' feeling when I finished X wonder, I don't get that with Galciv" You did? Heh.. I never did. After the first time.. I was like... 'ooh.. big whoop'. You get to see your city with unrealisticly placed wonders all around it. Gee.. how wonderful. :p The key is that in this game.. you EARNED your wonders. For the AI must also earn them. In Civ.. the other AI's could just *poof*.. make their wonders on a given

I am going to have to try some of these different strategies. The very cool thing about this game is that is works MANY ways. Experimentation is a blast. What I've been doing lately is: 1. Crank military and build colony ships and a couple scouts.. (taxes at around 50, spending as much as I can). I have research at 15% typically at this point, and learn comm theory by step 2. 2. Once enough colony ships are out to colonize all the nearest systems (from 8 to 12 dep

I name all my systems after the Pern series of books. Pern obviously gets a nice planet. Then I have Rukbat, Ruatha, Benden, Bitra and Telger.. and names like Menolly and Lessa, etc.. and then dragons, such as Ramoth, Canth, etc and so on. That series was all about colonizing a planet and their struggle to get back on track to what the original colonists wanted as a life on Pern.. so I thought it would be cool. fleabitfox

I rarely name my ships.. maybe I should! I do name all my systems though. All based on Pern names and character and such. So I've got Benden and Fort, and Ruatha, Ramoth, Pern of course, Menolly.. so on and so forth. Bitra for instance, is a class 15 usually.. or less, a pitiful planet. Pern always is a very nice one. LOL fleabitfox

Um.. I'm not sure CariElf. I just know the systems were a purple color, and they had planets of class 26, or more than one, plus other good planets. I will have to find which of a bajillion save games I found that good one, and reload it to see! The one I found I didn't check the influence.. it was just a darker purple star, with 2 class 26'ers, a 17 and a 15. I've found a few other of those purple systems, and they typically always had a class 24 to 26 in them. People were mentioni

Heh... no Chameleon? Bummer.. Bink was anti-magic, wasn't he? Been so long since I read that series! He couldn't be affected by bad magic? Hmmm... Anyways, yes.. you most certainly at least get more yellow stars, for one thing, that's for certain. Absolutely you do. Is it unbalancing? It could well be. Perhaps why they decided to ditch it final release to begin with.. LOL fleabitfox

Can one add techs to the tech tree? I would love to mess with that, right now, specifically with the Stellar Cartography tech. It is sort of useless, so I want to add a tech called Spectrum or Spectral Cartography (which Stellar Cartography would be the required tech for). It would identify the dark purple systems in the galaxy.. those ones that tend to have REALLY nice planets in them. It would make Stellar Cartography something actually worth learning (the other races do NOT know wh

I second the motion to create an 'autopilot off' toggle from the main menu, or in game. Additionally, instead of having autopilot happening when you double click a ship in the fleet list that is set to autopilot, do NOT move any autopilot until you click an 'auto move now' button of some sort. So imo, this is how it would work well: 1. Move your ships manualy that you desire. 2. Click the autopilot move now button.. all ships that have autopilot on will move until the end of the

Make Stellar Cartography more useful: Many people appear to think Stellar Cartography is a fairly useless tech. There are no other techs under Stellar Cartography, so I suggest the following: Make another tech available under Stellar Cartography. Call it Spectrum or Spectral Cartogrpahy (or whatever you like!), and have the benefit being able to see the dark purple systems. Those seem to harbor very nice planets, and might be a way to make people want to invest in Stellar Ca

I know a way to make it even more useful. After researching cartography, make something called I dunno.. Spectrum Cartography. Make it so you can identify those DARK PURPLE systems. You know.. the ones that seem to harbor awesome planets. I once found a dark purple system with 2 class 26 planets, one class 17 and one class 15. I went to war over that system. Those systems are usually very awesome, and since the alien races ALSO don't know where they are from the start, you can find them la
