Online demo seems like a bad idea for at least two reasons: 1. This game's multiplayer has a history of not scaling well to increased users. Just when Stardock gets the thing fixed for the people who bought it, they're going to dramatically increase the number of users by essentially giving multiplayer away for free? That sounds like a recipe for disaster all around, with the potential to give both paying customers AND potential customers a crummy experience. <p

Most people don't give a **** what label you put on it ("p2p", "partial p2p", "client-server", etc), all they care about is that it works. Whatever Warcraft 3 is doing, it works. Whatever Stardock is doing (and it's very clearly different from W3's system), it doesn't. If, as the OP claims, Stardock is using the exact same system as War 3, they've plainly implemented it incorrectly. Here's a comparison between what happens with War 3's custom games setup (i.e., to

The game has recently started crashing frequently when I'm in a lobby waiting to begin a game. Here's the error text from the most recent crash: EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION (0xc0000005) at address 0x100b62e8 attempted to read memory at 0x00350030 Program : C:\Program Files\Stardock Games\Demigod\bin\Demigod.exe Cmd line arguments : Callstack: TickCounter::QuerySystemTick + 333800 bytes ((Unknown)(0) + 0

One problem is that the chat text is just hard to see. A couple of possible fixes: 1. Increase chat font size 2. Add colors to chat font text, including having each player's name be their assigned color (see how DOTA does it...) 3. Increase time before chat text disappears (it goes by pretty quickly now - I'm a pretty fast reader and often I have to hit the ENTER key just so the text will pop back up and I can see what was being said)
no one said we are glad its broke, but we aren't bitching on the forums, that won't do any good. OOO STARDOCK, I CAN' CONNECT SO I WON'T GIVE ANY DETAILS AND INSTEAD JUST COMPLAIN!!!1!!!!1111
You are such a fanboy tool. People frustrated that multiplayer - a major aspect of the game - doesn't work have every right to post their dissatisfaction. The more such people who post, the better, because it'll send a

Some problems I've encountered: 1. Frequent Attempt to Connect Failed error in custom games. 2. Frequent Nat disconnect error in both custom and skirmish. 3. When trying to start game, host gets error message that certain players aren't connected even though they appear to be. 4. Host becomes unable to kick users with connection problems (haven't seen it as host myself, but I've been in game rooms where hosts say this is a problem).

Yeah, I certainly may have not used the terminology correctly, but the bottom line is the interface is too small at high resolutions and something should really be done about it. My monitor's native res is 2560x1600, and the game is essentially unplayable at that res given this issue (it's not just text boxes, the smaller buttons make gameplay more difficult, and the minimap is so small it's utterly useless). I've resorted to playing at the lower 1680x1050 res for now, which is

All parts of the interface (bar on bottom, minimap, text boxes) scale with different resolutions - i.e., they shrink as your resolution increases. This means at higher resolutions, everything is too small. Personally, I think this is the wrong way to do it. It should instead be like Warcraft III, where the interface is a fixed size regardless of the resolution. Or, at least, the size of Demigod's interface needs to be significantly increased at higher resolutions (like

"Blame the pirates" is an awfully lame excuse. I believe part of Stardock's "Gamers' Bill of Rights" is that you get refunds for games that don't work. But, then again, I think another part was "games should work on release day," so I don't know if Stardock really honors that "Bill of Rights." I don't recall either of those "rights" being qualified by "unless the developer can come up with some excuse," though I admittedly did not read the fine print.

Just plain Object Dock (not plus). If I go to the settings (when it has shifted to the right), it is properly set to "center" - I tried changing it to right or left and back to center again, but it remains stuck on the right no matter what I do to the setting. (The primary game I play where this happens is Warcraft 3 - I can play it in widescreen resolution, but everything gets stretched. I have no problems playing it in a 4:3 res other than this OD issue...)

Whenever my monitor's resolution changes (for example, to play a game that doesn't support my normal widescreen res), the object dock shifts to the right (I have it set to be centered). In order to fix, I have to close OD and restart it.
DotA doesn't have a monopoly on fun gameplay in this subgenre, and there should be variety. Different styles for different people.
The thing that most of you are missing is that it is virtually impossible to create a game that manages to stay fresh and interesting for years. I have only come across a single game in my entire life that held my interest over multiple years, DOTA. DOTA hit upon something special, an
I have no interest in Demigod being made into a prettier DotA.
And I would be ecstatic if Demigod were a prettier DOTA. There's a reason DOTA is one of the most successful mods ever; there's a reason it continues to be actively played today despite the fact it runs on a 6-year-old engine. If Stardock can improve on that model, great. But I think the overriding focus should be on replicating the fun-factor that has kept DOT

A few thoughts after playing for a few minutes: 1. Text (character selection and tooltip) is too small at higher resolutions (1900x1200) 2. I would like the ability to scroll around the map by moving the mouse cursor to the edge of the screen. (An option to turn this on/off would be great.) I'd imagine people coming from DOTA will want this. 3. The circle that appears around the Rook when you select the hammer move is confusing (it makes i

I was very disappointed when I saw in this preview that there would only be 8 characters. DOTA has always had a huge number of characters (90+ currently) and I think that's a big reason for its longevity. Having so many different hero combinations really helps in keeping the game different and fresh. I hope the final product ships with significantly more than 8 heroes...

I also have no sound yet the multimedia was fully downloaded. I think it may be because I had downloaded the multimedia component BEFORE the main program. (I also have no movies/tutorials, despite having them fully downloaded.) I'm going to try to uninstall + reinstall movies/tutorials/multimedia and see if that fixes it. Unfortunately, this means re-downloading all of those components. If I'm right, this is a pretty crappy bug
