Does anyone remember MOO1? When the AI planets started filling up, they went to war to gain needed land. You have 3 choices: 1) build morale improvements 2) risk the effects of low morale 3) go conquer a planet for your burgeoning population Nobody said that being a leader was going to be easy.

Make it like the old SimCity when you didn't pass the game validation (I forget what the scheme was). After 100 or so turns into the game, just make space monsters start popping up every other turn.

You have to understand that some people get validation from having a position of prestige or authority. When you criticize or question MOO3, you are questioning the legitimacy of the people who get their validation from MOO3. Who would even know or care who Sencho was if he wasn't a moderator of the MOO3 forums? Contrast that with the mods at OrionSection.com. Like everyone else, they *wanted* MOO3 to be a success. But when it obviously wasn't, they stated so publicly and have

advice to Brad: as a moderator of a website & forum that has trolls show up from a "competitor", my advice to you is simply to remain above the fray. I'm saying this because I see real similarities with my situtation regarding how you believe a forum should work, and how moderators in another forum freely abuse their position. Just don't go over here. They are not worth your time. When you wrestle in the mud with pigs, you get dirty and the pigs love it.

This happens to every game on the market, so it's not really a surprise. GC has a different style of distribution designed specifically to discourage pirating (as opposed to eliminating), so this is something they've planned for.

Event #100. A near-omnipotent being named "Yobgorf" (frogboy, backwards) enters the galaxy and declares all violence to be immoral. He communicates instantaneously with all races on all transmission devices. With a single wave of his hand, he destroys all weapon-carrying ships in the galaxy. He then moves onto the next galaxy. Since there are billions of galaxies in the universe, he is not expected to return anytime soon.

"This thread illustrates how difficult it is to come up with a truely original idea" Well, I never seen a TBS space game that repositioned your stars or let you replay the last X turns. I thought those were pretty original! ;)

#23 Time Warp A disturbance in the space-time continuum (you know, the usual) creates a time warp and allows the player to return to a point exactly X turns previously. (whatever value for X is appropriate, I dunno) This means the player now has the foresight to prevent or anticipate actions that he was not aware of. That would be very cool! When the event is determined, GalCiv could save the current situation and then have the event "trigger" X turns later.

hey, I'm just trying to get promoted! LOL Here's one that might be tough to implement: What about an unexplained rip in the space-time continuum that causes the star systems in a sector to reposition themselves within the sector, either randomly or at least to a significant degree? This could really upset the effects of influence, culture and trade. If you wanted a galactic effect (I would), then the "rip" stretches across the galaxy, affecting all of the sectors it passes thro

#6 Religious Revival - a race undergoes a dramatic revival in one of its ancient religions. Due to religious fervor, the race gets fat bonuses in whatever areas you think are appropriate. The downside is that the race views other races as heathens (including allies). All treaties are broken off and diplomatic relations are affected. The crusading race, depending on whether they are good or evil, will redouble their efforts in pursuing cultural or military victories.

#3 Environmental damage - this is from a ST:TNG episode. Timespace is becoming damaged from the overuse of warp engines. In gameplay, you could set a fairly low upper limit on warp speeds for maybe 100 turns. #4 Space Monsters - ya gotta have 5-6 different types of monsters! #5 Galactic Alchemy - one race devises a method to easily create a previously rare & valuable substance, one commonly used as a measure of wealth (like gold on Earth), throwing the galactic economy in chaos
