Story wise I find the campaign to not be that thrilling. I could be wrong but I see to remember that it was supposed to explain the Human/Alterian likeness, but I don't feel it to be that great. The story is in any case a bit thin, and I don't feel like any sense of involement in it. I found myself not really caring enough to read the story and had to replay it just to read things. The telling just feels dry, no real suspense. Play wise its ok, my only problem was the Alterian's focus o

You have to use Stardock Central for now. I'm sure a stand alone patch will be out soon. For info on StarDock Central check out this site: http://www.galciv.com/sdgc/ ~SDC~
Apparently the locks weren't supposed to be in the game yet, they are still experimental and are schedule for the expansion pack. Guess we will just have to wait. There is a bug when playing windowed with the economic screen. If you move the window from the 0,0 position the scroll bars get all funny and dont work as expected. I guess this is due to one of the zone checks checking from 0,0 of the screen instead of 0,0 from the window. ~SDC~
Yes, depending on the difficulty level you play. IMO they are slow learners though and you have to really go for abusing them before they react :) ~SDC~
Sector ownership goes to the race with the most influence in a given sector. However more population generates more influence, but this can be boosted a great deal by other means. ~SDC~
Each planet produces a certain amount of influence, which can be boosted with abilities and planetary improvements. So if you loose a planet your culture/influence droppes whatever that planet was worth to you in influence. In addition you can build starbases with cultural improvements giving you gigantic boosts in influence on the later tech levels. Loosing a starbase that has +200% culture will also cause you to loose those culture. 90% rating you have to reach means you have to domin
Guard - ship stays where it is until enemy ship is in the same sector/range. Sentry - ship stays where it is until any other ship enters the same sector/range. Not sure if its sector or sensor range that is the trigger, haven't monitored the behavior enough to be 100% sure. ~SDC~
The cultural influence and the counter in the menu are two different things. To reach cultural victory you must have 90% of the cultural influence in the galaxy and keep it for 12 months. Military or economic might have nothing to do with the cultural victory. The counter in the menu is how close you are to reaching that 90% target. So when it says 90% you have a cultural rating of 81%, when its 100% you have 90%. When its at 100% the 12 months start. The counter doesnt start when you a
Double click the survey ship, or click the (i) button down by the ship details, select auto-survey. Annomalies do randomly appear in the universe. On the larger galaxies you seemingly never run out, on smaller galaxies you occassionally run out of things to survey. If that happens just send your ship into orbit and it will automatically leave orbit to explore when new things pop up, as long as auto-survey isn't disabled due to giving it a guard command or similar. ~SDC~
You keep paying after it gets destroyed. They sold you a ship and they want their money back no matter what you do with the ship. ~SDC~
What do you mean you can't win any other way? I just finished a painful gigantic game via tech victory, but could easially have won through any other victory condition. The main reason I didn't go for military conquest is mostly because mangaging the fleet necessary to perform proper military operations is timconsuming on larger maps. On smaller maps there are less objectives you need to keep track of, and shorter distances. If you are at war with an empire on the other side of the galaxy gettin

On Genius level the AI does get en economic boost. This is well documented already. Check the FAQ and other forum threads. ~SDC~
Press the Insert button on the keyboard and you will overwrite instead of inserting. The only problem I have is that I have to do this for every little box in the game ;) ~SDC~
@Valamir If they enter an agreement they should stick to it. Since the agreement doesn't include any length of time for you to be at war you are free to end it when you choose, just like they are in case you make a deal with them. Would be better if their expectations are that you will be at war for X amount of months and you break the deal before that relations drop. ~SDC~
You must be at peace with the galaxy. At least the major civs, not sure about the minor ones. I used this fact in my last game where I did not want to win by culture again, so I went to war with one of the week civs and it gave me the time to take down the two remaining major civs that were a threat. Tech victory next time :) ~SDC~
@RustyBlade Tools -> Settings -> General -> Applications There is a checkbox for beta/alpha releases. ~SDC~
Actually you don't need to leave the planet. Just click once on the colony ship, choose the number of colonists, then click on the planet you want to colonize. ~SDC~
Maybe they are just better at picking the bonuses at the start? ;) Also have to remember that what they pick during those random events modify their stats, political party, starbases, trade goods, techs, and a few other things. I wish there was a breakdown of the stats when you hovered the mouse over them so you could see how much of comes from which part of the game. Add it for advanced espionage on the other civs so you have more reason to spend money on it. ~SDC~
I'd like it if SDC noticed there was an update available to something I have installed that it asks me if I want to update. "Hey I just noticed there is an updated version of GalCiv available. Would you like me to update it for you? I hear the changes are really great, but if you don't believe me here is a list of changes: * Drengin will bow before you and call you master!" [Update | Cancel] Or something like that. I went a few days without noticing there was an update available
Ships will fly through sectors that are not in range, but wont let you send the ships directly into that sector. Ive used this to scope out sectors that are just not in control. Not sure if you could send a colony ship in and colonize a planet though. ~SDC~
3. The numbers represents how many ships are headed for that destination. ~SDC~
