Defense in depth. That's the only way to do it. You simply cannot control the borders in space, certainly in 3 dimensions the size is huge. Granted this is 2D, but the same concept applies. Strategically you have to layer the defense and/or keep it moving to support regions as opposed to locations. Right down to the planetary level. Intelligence as far as enemy movement is concerned is more important, if you see them on sensors far enough ahead, you can focus your resou

Dyson sphere's are just huge though. Would be cool to see, they have them in Space Empires IV, and it takes enormous resources to put them into existance. Funny to see on a GalCiv map though.
No same for E-Tiggers, only ours are electronic.
It worked for me. Retail version. Installed and updated yesterday evening. Nothing odd, no changes to the default settings. I didn't notice any way to determine file size though. And no way to abort it once it started. However, the downloads were quick (ADSL).
In that case, I am an idiot and rest my case.
That kind of sucks having to do that... I like the ambiance of naming the stars on a thematic system and directional isn't one of those.
Anyone asked for a rectangle to show the current view in the minimap? Especially when I get wormholed to a different part of the map, I have to look for systems I recognize to get an idea of where I am and where I want to be.
Heh, I just remembered that there is a printer that handles 17x11 paper... not bad...
One bastard problem with this idea is that with the computer knowing where all the planets are, they will benefit much more greatly than the player. It may not show by much each game, but in the long run they will. And I would think that in a larger map it would be worse. Maybe just me.
Hmm, thanks LordtheRon. Trying it out with Photoshop and guides, can't get a nice size though for print out... oh well, keeping on trying though. Thanks again for the tree and the help
Probably in stack order as shown in the stack ship list. But I can't be sure.
Just remembered another thing. When listening to my own playlist, it is kind of annoying when some events occur that they supercede the playlist for their own music and then go back. Would prefer an all or nothing. Either all the game's music, or all mine. Thanks continued.
Oh, one other thing that I noticed as a sort of graphical aside. The cursor is the standard windows cursor... it is just kind of dull. It would be kind of cool if the cursor also changed based on your alignment. Thanks for all the continued work, it's great!!!
Maybe it is just me, but I would like the option to only see the next available choices in the tech tree, NOT the full tree. I just played my first game and it was fun trying to pick and choose the right stuff for what I wanted to do. I don't want a road map in the game, it makes no real sense to give the whole thing away. It's like Edison inventing electricity because it will allow him to create superconductors down the research path... On the other hand having an ide
I don't understand the big deal about ships that are too far away from the race's planets. They still operate. They still provide information on the region. Am I missing something that makes them a seriously bad deal? Certainly for defensive purposes they are lousy, but informationally they are handy to get a handle on the regional situation aren't they? Of course mass numbers wouldn't be. And I really wouldn't want to lose the leasing option of X
I haven't figured out how to break it up into printable pages yet, not in any easy way.
How about a way to lock an economy slider? So modifying military won't change the locked research slider, just the social slider.
What was the $damage$ from there DrixPower?
Cool! Thanks for the newsflash!!!!!
Depends upon what you like. In my opinion SEIV is a very good game, huge tech tree, customization of ships like mad. Racial config, tactical turn based combat, or strategic. Problem is that the only real way to win the game is to wipe everyone else out. My experience only. As soon as you reach a certain power level, races that have been your ally just turn on you. So while it is good in many ways (can't beat having the Vorlons or Imperial Star Destroyers as your race ships)
If it was just a high score board that would make sense, but as the AI can also learn from the strategies used it makes sense to take from the best. Granted that could still occur with your suggestion in effect.
Hey Kornalius, I was being more ironic than accusatory. It is quite probably that is the way they do it. Although they might keep a local distribution centre for canadian shipments. -- The depression continues... addicted before my first fix of GalCiv.
The reviewer also fails to take into account the full potential of the Metaverse's ability to take successful human strategies and incorporate them into the AI, thus providing a greater chance for "rich layers of strategy I can imagine if only there were other humans behind the alien faces on the screen."
Funny because I thought the distributor was located in Montreal...
Makes me curious as to what would/should happen when an empire gets big enough that it overlaps another. Which brings to mind the following thought. Can the computer play just other computers? I'm not talking about for retail versions etc. It just occured that with the Metaverse and the AI being able to use tactics from submitted games, what would happen if an AI using tactics from one metaverse score were used against another? Sort of a multiplayer by proxy. Maybe it's just me
