How come nobody said "dacty4491 you are right"? There is some RNG that affects how powerful you can be in the early game. Sometimes it works in your favor, sometimes not. I prefer to think of the times it's not in my favor as a challenge. Those games tend to be more fun and certainly more rewarding when I win.

I really think this is blown out of proportion by a vocal minority. They made the game the way they thought it would be fun. They also made it moddable so that those who wanted a slightly different play style could also have fun. It's not like exclusive specializations is a core mechanic of the game that is hard wired into the code. I see the potential for a few different mods 1. No specialization exclusivity (e.g. from Neidzielan) 2. Partial specialization exclusi

Okay I've gone through the tree and found four specializations where mutual exclusivity should be given deeper consideration: 1. Warfare - invasion optimization. The first person to research this can have his research nullified because the opponents can research the defensive counter 2. Warfare - defensive focus. The first person to research this can have his research nullified because opponents can research an offensive counter 3. Colonization - colonization focus

[quote who="BuckGodot" reply="25" id="3542095"] The other major one that seems to be irksome to me at first glance is Invasion Tactics. I can see why, say, choosing between faster engines or smaller engines makes sense from both a game balance and flavor viewpoint when researching a tech. I can also see the thing about political parties being exclusive. But when it comes to learning invasion tactics,

The US has required valid I.D. for all this stuff since well before 9/11, not for "security" reasons, but as a measure to prevent fraud. Do you guys not care about fraud or identity theft in Australia? Now, you are an immigrant to Australia, that complicates matters. Immigrants to the U.S. probably also have a tougher time getting an I.D. Again, it's not for phony security reasons, it's to prove you are who you say you are. In your specific case it seems like Australia is addi

[quote who="starkers" reply="9" id="3541773"] A bit like the old saying: "Justice must be seen to be done." This bunch of snakes in the grass appear to be doing something, but to what end? And what are the consequences, not only to US citizens, but the rest of the world? All too often events inside the US have a broader influence/impact, particularly with allies who wish to remain in favour, and with those it considers enemies. One example of this are the ext

For those of us who specialize our planets, we often find ourselves in the planetary Govern screen messing with the production wheel. There's little value in using the Global production settings for a planet that is 70% research labs. To maximize specialized planet production there is a lot of micromanagement. I have an idea that could alleviate that, offering a powerful tool for power users, and perhaps even the AI! I think this is an idea for a post-release patch. It's too much to d

I just did my first game of Beta 6. I want it known that I enjoyed my match, there's a lot to like, and I believe the game is in a great state. But this being beta and you want our feedback, in this post I'm focusing on improvements that I think could be made to the game, some possibly by release, some by the first patch. Below are some observations. It is possible some of the things I mention are actually in the game, I just didn't know where to look. Also I'm not going to ta

As a cyber security professional myself, I can tell you right now the industry is very worried about the success foreign hackers have had. So right now we are sounding out the call for data sharing and collaboration. I think this is Congress listening to those calls, thinking they need to do something to help, and doing it because it might help them keep their jobs. Maybe there's some sinister plan behind the scenes, who could ever know.

Do you even know what "cyber threat indicators" are? They're lists of IP addresses, domain names, and file hashes that cyber security analysts have found to be potentially threatening to computer and network security. If a company does proper sanitization there is no personal data that could be shared. If they don't, that is a problem. So private companies can already share these indicators. Many already do. It seems this act provides companies the ability to sue if those indi

Here's what's wrong. All races are ultimately pushing toward win conditions. If they are allowed to pursue an alliance victory and are actively pursuing it, yeah maybe it makes sense for relations to improve. But at some point, if their civilization is going away, being flipped, it is more difficult for the race to pursue a win condition due to lack of resources. At that point racial preservation would kick in, and negative relations would make sense. One must think about it in the co

Last year I recall a problem with culture in that the Influence of a planet was a continuously increasing counter. If a planet had been occupied for many turns it would essentially be impossible (or take extremely long) to flip it because you'd have to outpace that culture counter by a factor of four. I know that the method has changed since then, but I don't understand how it works now. Gilmoy?

Beta 5 brought with it one-turn overflow. If you generate 40 social manufacturing and build a factory costing 30 manufacturing, you have 10 left over. Before beta 5, those would have been wasted. Now those extra 10 get placed in a stockpile to be used later, for example next turn when building the next item in queue. If that turn you still have 40 manufacturing and build another 30 point factory, now 10 in the stockpile + 40 is 50 production, so at the end of that turn the stockpile would hav

So many great points in this thread. nobody can argue that the planets aren't purely eye candy. More beneficial might be the leader portrait for faster race identification. In between relations should also be discernible outside tool-tips.

I'm not convinced you've watched the streams. On at least a few occassions they have talked about espionage. They have ideas that add an order of complexity to espionage beyond that in GC2. These ideas are too much for them to do by release, but we should look forward to them in a DLC or expansion. As for your "illusion", I actually agree, for the most part. While you can effectively win by non-military expansion (influence), this game is really won through expansion alone. He
