NO you are no longer wasting money when you set your sliders. They removed that. Research and production carry over to the next item if there is excess so that you are not constantly adjusting the sliders. And good riddance to micromanagement. So how exactly is this handled? The credits are just not

Good question! Sorry I don't know the answer, but since I want to know too, I thought I'd bump it.
I can't actually play the game yet, but I just went through all the tutorials. I've been enthusiastic about the game since it was first announced, because I really anjoyed the last GalCiv. I must say however, that seeing it in action in the tutorial just really blew me away. I am now REALLY excited to finally be able to play it in a few days. I'm not normally a huge fan of graphics in a strategy game, but the very high production values i
Players can tell planets to focus on a given type. The idea is that players have to make some tough choices, the "best" player isn't the one who micro manages planets the best but rather the one that understand's their civilization as a whole the best. I was just concerned that any individual p
If you look through the tutorials you will see that you can make each planet specialise in one of the three spending areas (military, social, research), which increases its focus on that output. Ok, Apparently I can't do the tutorials until I can play the game? I just made my comment based solely on reading the manual, because that'

No tactical. Having the tactical option makes you feel obligated to use it in every battle that matters (because the battles always turn out better than when left to the AI). In large games, I do not want to choose between accepting this obligation or suffering a disadvantage. It also takes the focus away from the strategic picture. Since AI tactical is always weaker than a good human, it also penalizes the AI players.
I think it sucks so many people are already playing the game (people who have betas and gammas), but the rest of us have to wait even though we pre-ordered and payed the same. LOL It just feels lousy to know the game is totally done (and even paid for), but you still can't play it for artificially created reasons...
TEN = Total Entertainment Net (Or is that supposed to be TGN = Total Gaming Net)? Whatever, I meant the place where you buy Stardock games with tokens.
Hi, ] I just finished reading the manual (I can't actually play yet), but if I understand correctly your production spending has to be set globally - for example 50% manufacturing and 50% research or whatever? This sounds like any planet that chooses to specialize (ie produce mostly research or mostly manufacturing) will WASTE large amounts of its potential output (ie in this case a primarily reaserch planet will waste 50% of its s
Hi, I pre-ordered my GalCiv2 from TEN. Do I get the collector's edition with that or no? =/
Tribute USED to stop when the civ was wiped out. I actually had one of my "winning" games ruined because when I lost the tribute from taking races out of the game, I could not afford to keep up with all my leases anymore. I hope they get that fixed. I also agree you should lose any given tribute when you break the deal that the tribute was being paid for. I might even take it a step farther and say when an empire is at war, it should stop paying ALL tribute formerly going to whom the
Hi, I saw there was a new update to GalCiv posted the 21st, but the install button is not available for me. I had not previously downloaded or installed anything released on the 21st, so I'm not sure what is wrong. It DID let me install the bonus pack also released the 21st. Can anybody help with this? --Soulfire ~SDC~
The problem is you have to be X number of turns into the game before a cultural victory becomes possible (so far not documented anywhere). On medium and smaller maps if you get a good start in the game, it's very easy to meet the stated requirements for the cultural victory, but because it's too early in the gamne it can't actually happen. My solution is usually to get alliances with the races who like me and kill the ones that don't and take the diplomatic victory. --Soulfire
Cari_Elf was kind enough to tell me why this was happening to me: Apparently, you need to be into the game X number of turns before culture victory is enabled. Although I have enough cultural dominance to trigger a culture victory, it is still too early in the game so it is disabled. Apparently this is more of a problem on medium and smaller sized maps as the larger maps take longer to achieve 90% dominance. --Soulfire
systems = sectors sorry.
Just having the AI mass for invasions would be a HUGE improvement. Also, having the AI analyze 2-4 possible targets for invading instead of almost always hitting the nearest planet would shake things up a lot. A "forking" tactic could also be used when attacking in systems with more than one viable target. The Attack fleet moves to a square in space that is in between two targets, then picks the least defended target to actually attack. --Soulfire
Most of the critics of this game slam the graphics. They are not fancy and they are not 3D, but they are clear, functional, and not at all "bad". I think they are better than Civ3's (which is not saying they are spectacular). Civ3 earned strategy game of the year from several major magazines, so evidently those graphics were more than "good enough". Killer graphics CAN add to the atmosphere of a game, but honestly...most of that "gee-wiz" effect wears off after you have played the game a whi
These posts are very old, but I'm still having this trouble. Should giving tech improve relations in the current version of the game or not? --Soulfire
What kind of cultural advantage ratio do I need to establish before enemy planets will defect to my empire? Does anybody know the details of how this works? --Soulfire ~SDC~
I want there to be a a romance simulator that pops up between every turn, so I can roleplay being a stud emporer with a harem full of hotties in my zero-g jaccuzzi and stuff! This game sucks because it won't let me do that! I want nudity too! And the game should serve me free alcohol while I play! And PIZZA! This game is a non-starter because it doesn't do that! --Beavis "huh-huh-huh Yea, and like there should be hooters and stuff. huh-huh-huh" --Butthead
Actually, when you get way WAY ahead of all the races technoligically, it will eventually tell you on the recap that "We are doing ok technologically". I guess your advisors just don't want you to get cocky! :D --Soulfire
I've considered using information warfare a few times, but even on planets with low morale it usually sais 0 million to 0 million people will join me (for a cost of like 2000BCs). This is on a planet with maybe 50-60 morale and several BILLION people on it. On a side note, is there anywhere that gives a little more detail on exactly how the advantage factors work in ground combat? --Soulfire ~SDC~
When attacking I pick which ship I want to attack with and do it manuallu just to be safe.
It SHOULD always make you attack the strongest defending ship in the stack, whichever that would be. I hope that is how it works anyway.
