Reaver, it means that you can instantly replace any lost trade routes. Also if you gain more trade routes through technology or alignment, you can set them up straight away. And finally they make great spy ships - the AI never objects to freighters.

I would definitely like to see an WINE/Cedega-friendly GalCiv2. But there's always the option of virtualisation, I suppose...

but now it's just beating a long dead horse If it's well done and original, then the genre hardly matters.

I had something likat happen a couple of times in 1.1x Found that if I went to the save game screen and back out, then I got my button back, temporarily anyway. Hasn't happened since 1.2

One farm per world is usually fine. Stock markets, stock markets, stock markets. PS WRT trade routes, produce more freighters even when you have maxed out your trade routes.

The list of outstanding films-of-the-game is inspiring, I admit, but somehow my Spider-Sense says no....

One problem I do see, though, is that the AI often builds way too many freighters. Even when they already have their maximum number of trade routes, they'll pump out several more. These excess freighters also get sent out to form trade routes, which they obviously fail to do once they reach their destination, and you end up with lots of idle ships lying around

Well I usually build 2 or 3 extra survey ships. All those little 1% bonuses can add up... and there's nothing like finding a 2500BCr treasure ship when you're 489BCr overdrawn and have a monthly deficit of -112BCr ;o)

I usually see what kind of defences the AIs have developed, then do a crash program of either beam or mass-driver. If it's a toss-up then usually beam for the psy-laser goodness.

Megavolt, that's very true. The issue here is that the AI doesn't seem to do this in the same way that humans do. Small fighter are not useless, though - if you have very experienced units, they can really rack up the hitpoints, which they retain even when upgraded, and they are great for picking off transports, constructors and weaker/damaged fleets, and padding out fleets with a couple of spare logistics points. I usually have medium ships as the backbone of my fleet in the

Translation: "I downloaded this from BitTorrent and now I can't give free updates. STARDOCK IS WORSE THAN HITLER!!!!11" 'Treated like thieves' LOL! I've never seen a game developer more responsive to its customers. Activation takes about 2 minutes, and that was with the European CE where I had to get a second serial number, and I've never needed the CD since. Perhaps you'd prefer to be treated to Starforce? Wait, you probably would, since most starforce games are eventually crac

It really is worth setting up trade routes. Design the fastest freighters you can and have one rich planet keep producing them until you have all the routes you can. A nifty trick is to have a few spare freighters positioned near rich alien planets so that if you lose a route, you can establish another one straight away. (Also you can keep an eye on those planets). Trade is usually equal to more than my surplus income. Don't start a war unless you have 20K or so in hand is my advice. Th

I usually put a farm on every world of PQ8 or above. As well as income, a high population provides protection against invasion, and of course the population to invade with. Also I think people over-emphasise the importance of having morale at 100%. I think if your *overall* morale is at 100%, then your taxes are too low - raise them until morale dips to 95% or so, then work on improving the planets with less than 100%. At overall 100%, most of your planets will be producing much less in

I frequently find that the AI will stockmarkets on approval tiles [Captain] [Racial Victory] [5 Game Winner] [Human] [Over 15 Battles] [Chaotic Good] [Tough] I do the same thing if the planet has 1 or 0 farms.

and I NEVER got any free bonuses or a map to life. WTF? Yeah, not even a starter colony ship... What's with that?

16 Replies 12,513 Views

I should also say that you can build say 5 medium ships on 5 planets and have them in action much quicker than 3 large ships built on 3 planets even though the production cost is theoretically the same.
